Book The Encyclopedia of Mineralogy

Download or read book The Encyclopedia of Mineralogy written by Keith Frye and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1981-12-31 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Encyclopedia of Mineralogy provides comprehensive, basic treatment of the science of mineralogy. More than 140 articles by internationally known scholars and research workers describe specific areas of mineralogical interest, and a glossary of 3000 entries defines all valid mineral species and many related mineral names. In addition to traditional topics - descriptions of major structural groups, methods of mineral analysis, and the paragenesis of mineral species - this volume embraces such subjects as asbestiform minerals, minerals found in caves and in living beings, and gems and gemology. It includes current data on the latest in our geological inventories - lunar minerals. It describes the properties, characteristics, and uses of industrial resources such as abrasive materials and Portland cement. A directory will guide traveling mineralogists to the major mineralogical museums of the world, with their special interests noted. Clear technical illustrations supplement the text throughout. To help the student and professional find particular information there are a comprehensive subject index, extensive cross-references of related topics (whether in this volume or others in the series), and reference lists to background information and detailed advanced treatment of all topics. The Encyclopedia of Mineralogy is a valuable reference and source for professionals in all geological sciences, for science teachers at all levels, for collectors and `rock hounds', and for all who are curious about the minerals on earth or those brought back from outer space.

Book Handbook on Gypsum and Gypsum Based Products Mining Processing Transportation Handling Storage Gypsum Board Plaster of Paris with Machinery Equipment Details

Download or read book Handbook on Gypsum and Gypsum Based Products Mining Processing Transportation Handling Storage Gypsum Board Plaster of Paris with Machinery Equipment Details written by P.K. Tripathi and published by NIIR PROJECT CONSULTANCY SERVICES. This book was released on 2021-01-01 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gypsum is chemically known as calcium sulfate dihydrate and it contains calcium and sulfur, which is bound to oxygen and water. Gypsum is an abundant mineral and takes various forms including alabaster, which is a material, used in decoration and construction. This is a non-toxic mineral and it can be helpful to humans, animals, plant life, and the environment. The majority of gypsum produced is used to manufacture gypsum board or building plasters and it is used in many other ways. Gypsum products are used in dentistry, medicine, homes, and industry. In homes, gypsum plaster is used to make walls; in industry, it is used to make molds. Three types of gypsum products are plaster, stone, and high-strength or improved stone. The Gypsum and the Gypsum products are used for construction purposes. It is also used in industry for making pottery, moulds etc. It is used by orthopedics to make plaster casts and helps the dentist for the cast preparation, models and dies, impression material, investment material, mounting of Casts, as a mold material for processing of complete dentures etc. The global gypsum board market size is anticipated to exhibit a CAGR of 11.9% in terms of revenue. Increasing utilization of gypsum boards in decorative and partitioning applications in residential constructions is anticipated to drive the market. The demand for gypsum boards is driven by the residential sector, where the product is widely used in multi-family constructions for room partitioning. Durability and lightweight coupled with easy handling of the product are some of the factors anticipated to propel the demand. The major contents of the book are Mining, Processing, Transportation, Handling & Storage, Gypsum Board, Plaster of Paris for gypsum, Plant Layout, Process Flow Chart and Diagram, Plant & Machinery Suppliers and Photographs of Machineries. This book is one-stop guide to one of the fastest growing sector of the Gypsum and Gypsum based Products, where opportunities abound for manufacturers, retailers, and entrepreneurs. This is the only complete handbook on gypsum and gypsum based Products. It serves up a feast of how-to information, from concept to purchasing equipment.

Book The Persian Gulf

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bruce H. Purser
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 3642655459
  • Pages : 470 pages

Download or read book The Persian Gulf written by Bruce H. Purser and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, although not an integrated synthesis, treats most aspects of Holocene sedimenta tion and diagenesis in the Persian Gulf, grouping 22 contributions under a single cover and in one language. Because these sediments and diagenetic minerals are comparable to those existing in many ancient sedimentary basins, their appraisal should be of value to the enlarging group of workers who interpret ancient sedimentary rocks. The essential morphological, climatic and oceanographic factors determining Holocene sedimen tation and diagenesis in the Persian Gulf are summarized in the introductory article by PURSER and SEIBOLD. These environmental controls and the overall morphology of the Persian Gulf have much in common with Shark Bay, Western Australia, described by LOGAN et al. (1970). On the other hand, the Persian Gulf is markedly different from the better known Florida and Bahamian prov inces; the floor of the Persian Gulf is gently inclined from continental shoreline to bathymetric axis (80-100 m); the Bahamian province, on the other hand, is horizontal and extremely shallow (2-10 m), with very sharply defined shelf edges surrounded by deep oceanic waters. These contrast ing architectural styles are related to different tectonic frames.
