Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Membership in a terrorist org. does not prohibit a person from owning a gun under current law. Thus, during presale screening of prospective firearms purchasers, the Nat. Instant Criminal Background Check System historically did not utilize terrorist watch list records. However, for homeland security & other purposes, the FBI & applicable state agencies began receiving notices when such screening involved watch lists records. This report determined: (1) how many checks have resulted in valid matches with terrorist watch list records, (2) procedures for providing federal counter-terrorism officials relevant info. from valid-match background checks, & (3) the extent to which the FBI monitors or audits the states' handling of such checks. Book Guns Freedom and Terrorism

Download or read book Guns Freedom and Terrorism written by Wayne R. LaPierre and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 11, 2001, America was defiled by terror -- our people mass murdered by fanatics willing to forfeit their own lives to kill as many innocent civilians as they could. The horrific evil inflicted on America that day was also a frontal assault on the very values that have made this nation a power-house: liberty, democracy, justice, and decency. To the nation's gun ban lobby, however, the mindless tragedy was seen as an opportunity to seize on terrorism as an excuse to launch a new wave of harsh gun laws against peaceable citizens. But their antidefense dogma fell on deaf ears. Citizens quickly decided to assume responsibility for their own protection. Homeland security meant exercising Second Amendment rights; it meant common-sense gun ownership. It meant Americans fighting back -- from airline pilots to average citizens. Guns, Freedom, and Terrorism exposes the myths of those who demand we give up the liberties our forefathers fought valiantly to protect. It's about the true meaning of an armed citizenry and the nation's bedrock belief in preserving freedom. This fact-filled book provides forceful and convincing arguments on all the current issues facing firearms ownership in America, including: arming airline pilots, "animal rights" extremists, extortion of firearms manufacturers, gun show prohibition, international disarmament, self-defense and right-to-carry laws, media bias, and the historical and legal foundations affirming an individual's right to keep and bear arms. Book Guns and Terror

Download or read book Guns and Terror written by Loren Berger and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "As our nation conducts its war on terrorism -- at home and abroad -- one salient and unassailable fact is conspicuously absent from the national dialogue: terrorists and guns go together. The gun is part of the essential tool kit of domestic and foreign terrorists alike. Guns are used to commit terrorist acts, and guns are used by terrorists to resist law enforcement efforts at apprehension and arrest. The oft-seen file footage of Osama Bin Laden, aiming his AK-47 at an unknown target, is now a familiar reminder of the incontrovertible connection between terrorism and guns. For terrorists around the world, the United States is the Great Gun Bazaar. This special report by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence makes the case for stronger gun laws, and for enforcement of existing laws, as an essential part of a comprehensive homeland security program. This report details specific cases involving terrorists and guns purchased in the United States."--Page 1.

Book excerpt: From the recent shootings at Virginia Tech University to the tragedies at Columbine and Oklahoma City, certain common traits can be traced through all of these events. Skillfully connecting each case with the current environment for male socialization and the search for identity in an American culture obsessed with guns and militarism, Kellner's work is a sobering reflection on these tragedies and the pervasive power of media and popular culture as well as a wake-up call for the future.

Book Guns and Values

Download or read book Guns and Values written by Dylan S. McLean and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American gun control debate is best understood as a battle in a war over the influence of individualism on American culture, politics, and policy. This book demonstrates that the gun debate is fundamentally about values. Specifically, it is about what we value most: private rights, or the public good. This helps explain why the technical, empirical, or legalistic arguments we hear aren’t persuasive. A review of scholarly literature on both the politics of gun control and American political culture finds an American bias toward an individualism that embraces personal rights. We argue that this bias stacks the deck against gun control. Interviews we conducted with activists show that support for, or opposition to, gun control is linked to concern for the public, or private, good. Finally, we trace the federal gun control debate in Washington from the 1960s to 2010s to show the ebbs and flows of individualism’s influence.

Book The Tyranny of Gun Control

Download or read book The Tyranny of Gun Control written by Richard M. Ebeling and Jacob G. Hornberger and published by The Future of Freedom Foundation. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The right to own firearms is one of the most fundamental, inherent rights of man. Not only do individuals have the natural, God-given right to own property, they also have the basic right to defend themselves from murderers, rapists, thieves, burglars, and other violent, antisocial people in society. Most important, individuals have the right to defend themselves from the oppressive, tyrannical acts of their own government. This book shows why gun control poses an enormous threat to the liberty of the American people. It is a must read for anyone concerned about the future direction of freedom in the United States.

Book Guns and Contemporary Society

Download or read book Guns and Contemporary Society written by Glenn H. Utter and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2015-12-01 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This three-volume set examines various approaches to firearms, including constitutional and legal issues, public health and criminal justice concerns, and perspectives on personal safety and self-defense. Recent mass shootings have led to renewed calls for additional legislation at the state and federal levels to address gun access and control. In this hard-hitting compilation, experts delve into various aspects of firearms in America—from gun control and gun rights to militia movements, to school-related shootings, and to the recent trends in gun ownership by women. Authors from varied backgrounds and viewpoints share their perspectives on the pros and cons of firearm ownership as all of the following: a constitutional right, a key instrument of self-defense, a guarantee of political freedoms, and as a major factor in crime and personal injury. The reference is divided into three volumes. The first volume covers firearm history, legislation, and policy; the second volume explores public opinion, gun ownership trends, international laws, and self-defense; and the third considers popular debates about firearm policy, including concealed carry of firearms, terrorism and the ownership of firearms, background checks for purchasing guns, and stand-your-ground laws. The work concludes with an informed debate on gun policy between Richard Feldman, president of the Independent Firearm Owners, and Paul Helmke, former president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
