Book Handbook of Famous Plane Curves Using Mathematica

Download or read book Handbook of Famous Plane Curves Using Mathematica written by Steven Tan and published by Steven Tan. This book was released on 2020-07-15 with total page 1471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by the Famous Curves Index of the award-winning website by MacTutor History of Mathematics archive maintained by John J. O'Connor and Edmund F. Robertson and hosted by the University of St Andrews, the author wrote this handbook of famous plane curves using Mathematica® as a tool to graph, animate, calculate and to construct derived curves from given ones. Some constructions are extremely difficult to draw by hands, especially those involve numerical integration can be performed with ease with Mathematica®. Even for some simple curves before the invention of computer, drawing them by hands might take a long time. To borrow the words of Rudy Rucker (author of The Fourth Dimension): "if the only thing you're going to be remembered for in 300 years is one single curve, then you don't mind spending a year or two in getting it right!" Plane curves had been studied since antiquity. However, the general theory of plane curves began to be developed only after the invention of Cartesian coordinates by Descartes in the early 1600s. The discovery of calculus in the 17th century led to the study of more complicated plane curves. The methods of calculus, in particular integration, provides solution of finding the arc length and area of a plane curve. Plane curves are of historical interest. It could be said that significant part of classical mathematics deal with them. Most books on history of mathematics include information on various plane curves. Plane curves remain a source of inspiration and a topic of research to this day. Whenever it is applicable the author mentions some research papers in which the curves are used for applications in modern science and technology.

Book Progressing Cavity Pumps

Download or read book Progressing Cavity Pumps written by Henri Cholet and published by Editions TECHNIP. This book was released on 1997 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The progressing cavity pump is a recent innovation in petroleum production. It rapidly gained an important place in the production of heavy oils containing gas. It has now been confirmed as very efficient for the production of large flow rates of light and abrasive oils. Driven by rod strings from the surface, it is a simple, rugged and cheap equipment. The aim of this book is to provide clear and condensed information related to the principles, qualities and performances of this system. This book is intended to provide the choice criteria of a progressing cavity pump and the operational conditions for its implementation by technicians and field development managers.Contents: 1. Principle and general description of the progressing cavity pump. 2. PCP characteristics. 3. Selection of a PCP. 4. Presence of gas at the pump inlet. 5. Driving from surface of PCP. 6. Installation, operation and maintenance of PCP. 7. An economical completion with the insert pump. 8. The electrical submersible PCP. Bibliography. Index.

Book Introduction to Permanent Plug and Abandonment of Wells

Download or read book Introduction to Permanent Plug and Abandonment of Wells written by Mahmoud Khalifeh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-27 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book offers a timely guide to challenges and current practices to permanently plug and abandon hydrocarbon wells. With a focus on offshore North Sea, it analyzes the process of plug and abandonment of hydrocarbon wells through the establishment of permanent well barriers. It provides the reader with extensive knowledge on the type of barriers, their functioning and verification. It then discusses plug and abandonment methodologies, analyzing different types of permanent plugging materials. Last, it describes some tests for verifying the integrity and functionality of installed permanent barriers. The book offers a comprehensive reference guide to well plugging and abandonment (P&A) and well integrity testing. The book also presents new technologies that have been proposed to be used in plugging and abandoning of wells, which might be game-changing technologies, but they are still in laboratory or testing level. Given its scope, it addresses students and researchers in both academia and industry. It also provides information for engineers who work in petroleum industry and should be familiarized with P&A of hydrocarbon wells to reduce the time of P&A by considering it during well planning and construction.
