This book was released on 1989 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The San Rafael Swell wilderness study areas, including the Muddy Creek, Crack Canyon, San Rafael Reef, Mexican Mountain, and Sids Mountain Wilderness Study Areas, are in Emery County, south-central Utah. At least 4,100 current and historic mining claims have been located in or near the study areas, primarily for uranium. Vanadium is the most valuable byproduct of uranium mining, although minor copper, silver, lead, zinc, and gold also occur in some deposits.

Book The Bluebell Oil Field Uinta Basin Duchesne and Uintah Counties Utah

Download or read book The Bluebell Oil Field Uinta Basin Duchesne and Uintah Counties Utah written by Craig D. Morgan and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2003 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrocarbon production in the Bluebell field is from three reservoirs in the Tertiary-aged Colton and Green River Formations: (1) overpressured Colton/Flagstaff, (2) lower Green River, and (3) upper Green River. Kerogen-rich shale and marlstone deposited in marginal and nearshore openlacustrine environments are the source of the waxy crude in the Colton/Flagstaff and lower Green River. Marlstone, or oil shale and possibly coal, are the sources for the asphaltic crude found in the upper Green River. Non-associated gas in the upper Green River could be from coaly deposits in the upper Green River, or migrated up from the lower Green River, or a combination of both. The lithology of all three reservoirs is similar; fractured sandstone, shale, limestone, and marlstone beds having generally low intergranular porosity and permeability. The strata were deposited in lacustrine and alluvial environments.

Book Advances in the Study of Fractured Reservoirs

Download or read book Advances in the Study of Fractured Reservoirs written by G.H. Spence and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2014-08-27 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Naturally fractured reservoirs constitute a substantial percentage of remaining hydrocarbon resources; they create exploration targets in otherwise impermeable rocks, including under-explored crystalline basement; and they can be used as geological stores for anthropogenic carbon dioxide. Their complex behaviour during production has traditionally proved difficult to predict, causing a large degree of uncertainty in reservoir development. The applied study of naturally fractured reservoirs seeks to constrain this uncertainty by developing new understanding, and is necessarily a broad, integrated, interdisciplinary topic. This book addresses some of the challenges and advances in knowledge, approaches, concepts, and methods used to characterize the interplay of rock matrix and fracture networks, relevant to fluid flow and hydrocarbon recovery. Topics include: describing, characterizing and identifying controls on fracture networks from outcrops, cores, geophysical data, digital and numerical models; geomechanical influences on reservoir behaviour; numerical modelling and simulation of fluid flow; and case studies of the exploration and development of carbonate, siliciclastic and metamorphic naturally fractured reservoirs.

Book Energy Mineral and Ground water Resources of Carbon and Emery Counties Utah

Download or read book Energy Mineral and Ground water Resources of Carbon and Emery Counties Utah written by R. W. Gloyn and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2003 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides information for use in both short- and long term land-planning decisions, particularly at the county level, and an indication of the present and future economic impact of mineral and energy development. The report discusses eight major commodity groups: (1) oil and gas, (2) coal and coal resin, (3) coal-bed methane, (4) other energy resources (oil-impregnated rock, oil shale, geothermal), (5) uranium and vanadium, (6) metallic minerals, (7) industrial rocks and minerals, and (8) ground-water resources. In general, for each group or commodity within a group the following aspects are discussed: (1) known occurrences and characteristics, (2) past production and trends, (3) current production and exploration activity, and (4) geologic potential. Plates accompany each of the major commodity groups and show the locations of known resources and areas of geologic potential. In addition to the commodity discussions, the report contains a brief summary of land ownership status and concludes with a summary of commodities having the best potential for discovery and development. 161 pages + 14 plates
