Book A Guidebook for Selecting Airport Capital Project Delivery Methods

Download or read book A Guidebook for Selecting Airport Capital Project Delivery Methods written by Ali Touran and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2009 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes various project delivery methods for major airport capital projects. The guidebook also evaluates the impacts, advantages, and disadvantages of these various project delivery methods. The project delivery methods discussed include design-bid-build (DBB), construction manager at risk (CMR), and design-build (DB). The guidebook offers a two-tiered project delivery selection framework that may be used by owners of airport projects to evaluate the pros and cons of each delivery method and select the most appropriate method for their project. Tier 1 is an analytical delivery decision approach that is designed to help the user understand the attributes of each project delivery method and whether the delivery method is appropriate for their specific circumstance. Tier 2 uses a weighted-matrix delivery decision approach that allows users to prioritize their objectives and, based on the prioritized objectives, select the delivery method that is best suited for their project. The report will be helpful to airports with determining the most appropriate project delivery methods (e.g., DBB, DB, or CMR) for various types of airport capital projects.

Download or read book Risk Management Handbook written by U. S. Department of Transportation and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook, “Risk Management Handbook (FAA-H-8083-2),” is a tool designed to help recognize and manage risk. It provides a higher level of training to the pilot in command (PIC) who wishes to aspire to a greater understanding of the aviation environment and become a better pilot. This handbook is for pilots of all aircraft from Weight-Shift Control (WSC) to a Piper Cub, a Twin Beechcraft, or a Boeing 747. A pilot's continued interest in building skills is paramount for safe flight and can assist in rising above the challenges which face pilots of all backgrounds. Some basic tools are provided in this handbook for developing a competent evaluation of one's surroundings that allows for assessing risk and thereby managing it in a positive manner. Risk management is examined by reviewing the components that affect risk thereby allowing the pilot to be better prepared to mitigate risk. The pilot's work requirements vary depending on the mode of flight. As for a driver transitioning from an interstate onto the city streets of New York, the tasks increase significantly during the landing phase, creating greater risk to the pilot and warranting actions that require greater precision and attention. This handbook attempts to bring forward methods a pilot can use in managing the workloads, making the environment safer for the pilot and the passengers.

Book Managing Risk in Construction Projects

Download or read book Managing Risk in Construction Projects written by Nigel J. Smith and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-02-03 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investment in any new project invariably carries risk but the construction industry is subject to more risk and uncertainty than perhaps any other industry. This guide for construction managers, project managers and quantity surveyors as well as for students shows how the risk management process improves decision-making. Managing Risk in Construction Projects offers practical guidance on identifying, assessing and managing risk and provides a sound basis for effective decision-making in conditions of uncertainty. The book focuses on theoretical aspects of risk management but also clarifies procedures for undertaking and utilising decisions. This blend of theory and practice is the real message of the book and, with a strong authorship team of practitioners and leading academics, the book provides an authoritative guide for practitioners having to manage real projects. It discusses a number of general concepts, including projects, project phases, and risk attitude before introducing various risk management techniques. This third edition has been extended to recognize the reality of multi-project or programme management and the risks in this context; to highlight the particular problems of risk in international joint ventures; and to provide more coverage of PFI and PPP. With case studies and examples of good practice, the book offers the distilled knowledge of over 100 man-years of experience in working on all aspects of project risk, giving sound practical guidance on identifying, assessing and managing risk.

Book Risk Management in Projects

Download or read book Risk Management in Projects written by Martin Loosemore and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-09-10 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project managers in construction and civil engineering need to base their decisions on realistic information about risk and public perceptions of risk. This second edition of the original practical and straightforward text retains the easy-to-read format, but has been expanded to encompass the entire risk management process and to give a fuller presentation of how risk is generally perceived. Two new chapters cover risk identification and risk response, and the chapters on risk analysis have been completely reorganized. There is also greater emphasis on the theory behind the principles, and an expanded bibliography is given to guide an exploration of the subject in greater detail. The book demystifies risk management by presenting the subject in simple and practical terms, free of technical jargon, and case studies are used extensively to enliven the text and to illustrate the concepts discussed.
