Book Guide VERON des Champagnes 2024 English version

Download or read book Guide VERON des Champagnes 2024 English version written by VERON Michel and published by Collectif Photo Reims. This book was released on 2023-06-12 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An inevitable guide, an unique concept Between pleasure and emotion After a year 2022 during which all the alerts related to global warming, the collapse of biodiversity, the depletion of resources and various crises, between unprecedented fires and drought, armed conflicts at the gates of Europe and uncontrolled migrations, exceeding the most pessimistic scenarios used by the IPCC since 1990, the Champagne area still manages to preserve the quality of its wines and its economic stability. Let's hope that the change to a low-carbon and truly environmentally friendly champagne sector will be fast enough to meet the imminent challenges... Despite this worrying context, I am happy to present the Guide VERON des Champagnes 2024. For this fourteenth edition, 65 cuvées of champagne have been selected, produced by wine growers as well as cooperative cellars and Champagne houses. This year of discoveries and tastings has again been the occasion for new surprises, sources of constantly renewed pleasure, which have allowed me to measure the dynamism and creativity of the champagne producers. The Guide VERON des Champagnes remains faithful to its concept, the one that makes it stand out, which consists in refusing to classify and mark the selected champagnes, in order not to fall into vulgarity. How to assign a grade to a pleasure or an emotion? Through this book, I offer you a real initiatory journey, to meet the wine growers and cellar masters who made it possible to write this Guide VERON des Champagnes 2024. This book published in French and English was born out of my passion for champagne tasting, my long experience enriched by innumerable exchanges with the champenois wine growers and my thirst for discovery… Michel VERON Œnologist and teacher at Lycée viticole de la Champagne since 1991 www.guide-veron-champagne.blogspot.com Photos credits: Brigitte VERON

Book Little Demon in the City of Light

Download or read book Little Demon in the City of Light written by Steven Levingston and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2015-03-17 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A delicious true crime account of a murder most gallic—think CSI Paris meets Georges Simenon—whose lurid combination of sex, brutality, forensics, and hypnotism riveted first a nation and then the world. In 1889, the gruesome murder of a lascivious court official at the hands of a ruthless con man and his pliant mistress launched the trial of the century. When Toussaint-Augustin Gouffé entered 3, rue Tronson du Coudray, expecting a delightful assignation with the comely Gabrielle Bompard, he was instead murdered by Gabrielle and her lover, Michel Eyraud. An international manhunt chased the infamous couple from Paris to America’s West Coast, culminating in a sensational trial that investigated the power of hypnosis to possess, control, and even kill. As the inquiry into the guilt or innocence of the woman the French tabloids dubbed the “Little Demon” intensified, the most respected minds in France vehemently debated: Was Gabrielle Bompard the pawn of her mesmerizing lover or simply a coldly calculating murderess capable of killing a man in cold blood?

  • Release : 2012-11-06
  • ISBN : 1936941015
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Angels of Paris written by Rosemary Flannery and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2012-11-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Angels are sculpted everywhere in Paris, not just on churches but in unexpected places: holding a lightning rod atop the Théâtre du Châtelet’s roof, adorning a seventeenth-century gilded sundial inside a courtyard at the Sorbonne, hovering above a railroad headquarters where a beautiful stone frieze features young angels flying in to work on the tracks. Subtly, subliminally, the angels are a part of the fanciful and romantic spirit of Paris. Angels of Paris is the first book to explore this intriguing and extraordinary subject. Angels of Paris features beautiful photographs taken from dawn to dusk, in all seasons, accompanied by text explaining the story behind the creation of each angel and of the location in which it is found. Organized chronologically, the book delves into the artistic trends and historic movements the angels reflect and the stories of the artists who created them and of those who commissioned them. Readers will learn about Paris’s history, buildings, and monuments through the abundant, beautiful, and surprising depictions of angels from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. Rosemary Flannery has found angels in friezes, plaques, and free-standing sculpture; on fountains and façades, clocks and sundials, monuments and mansions, rooftops and window frames. Angels of Paris is a unique way for lovers of Paris to learn more about the city in a new and unusual way.

Book The Rational Optimist

Book excerpt: For two hundred years the pessimists have dominated public discourse, insisting that things will soon be getting much worse. But in fact, life is getting better—and at an accelerating rate. Food availability, income, and life span are up; disease, child mortality, and violence are down all across the globe. Africa is following Asia out of poverty; the Internet, the mobile phone, and container shipping are enriching people's lives as never before. In his bold and bracing exploration into how human culture evolves positively through exchange and specialization, bestselling author Matt Ridley does more than describe how things are getting better. He explains why. An astute, refreshing, and revelatory work that covers the entire sweep of human history—from the Stone Age to the Internet—The Rational Optimist will change your way of thinking about the world for the better.
