This book was released on 2024-01-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A completely revised and updated second edition of the essential field guide and reference work. Since the publication of the first edition of Guide to the Flowers of Western China in 2011, there have been great strides in knowledge of the flora of China through international collaboration. Many plants included in the first edition have been revisited in the wild, while areas hitherto inaccessible have opened up, if sometimes only temporarily. Great advances in systematic botany have occurred since the publication of the first edition, particularly with the widespread availability of rapid DNA analysis. The result of this has been an influx of new photographs and data, and the need for a second edition of Guide to the Flowers of Western China.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Western Flower Guide: Wild Flowers of the Rockies and West to the Pacific The preparation of a Pacific Coast Wild Flower Guide OI tne present small proportions has naturally involved a large exercise Of elimination. The owers herein illustrated number 250, and the brief descriptions in non-technical language include besides these a few more whose resem blance' to certain Of those depicted makes identification relatively easy. The selection of the subjects has been based mainly upon the hold which such owers have upon the popular heart on the Pacific Coast, and also to some extent by the part they have played in the human life Of the region. A few introduced plants - not uncommon in other parts of the world, and some of them even homely - have been included in the descriptions, because their abundance, their uses, or their habits make them subjects Of interest to travelers and the general student. While the region covered in the Guide is principally the three Coast States, California, Oregon, and Washington, in many cases the plants described are also found eastward in the States from Idaho south to Arizona, and in some cases as far east as Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. Plains and valleys, seaside and mountains, as well as the Southwestern desert region (a marvellously rich oral field for a part Of the year) are represented. While this book has been prepared out Of a personal acquaintance of many years with the field, the author desires to acknowledge his indebtedness to the following works upon which he has had Occasion to draw for special descriptions and points - Gray's Synoptical Flora of North America, Jepson's Flora Of California (in course of publication), Hall's Compositae of Southern California and Yosemite Flora, Parson's Wild Flowers Of California, Armstrong's Western Wild Flowers, Meehan's Native Flowers and Ferns Of the United States, and the valuable monographs of Chestnut, Coville, Havard, and Barrows on the Indian uses of native plants. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This plant book aims to help identify flowering plants to genus and family level anywhere in the world. In 2014 there were very few available works which were both comprehensive and up-to-date for all the flowering plants families and genera of the world. The Flowering Plants Handbook is an easy to use identification guide to the worlds flowering plants designed for both specialists and non-specialists and from beginner to expert. The book contains descriptions of all currently recognised flowering plant families, morphological notes for 6656 genera (all current genera for 398/413 families) and over 3000 images and illustrations. Book Chinese Medicinal Plants Herbal Drugs and Substitutes

Download or read book Chinese Medicinal Plants Herbal Drugs and Substitutes written by Christine Leon and published by Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first botanically authoritative and practical illustrated identification guide to Chinese medicinal plants and drugs and their substitutes. It offers authoritative guidance on the identification of the herbal drugs themselves, and the plants from which they are sourced. Over the past 15 years, the authors have been collecting plant specimens throughout China, using verified species to create typical TCM reference drugs, prepared according to traditional methods. The herbal drugs included in this book are officially recognised from the Chinese materia medica (as defined in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia) and their selection has been based on those popular in international trade, as well as those recognised by the European Herbal and Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association, and those that are easily confused, substituted or adulterated with other plants.
