Book Guide to Site Selection Design and Construction of Dredged Material Containment Areas for Aquaculture

Download or read book Guide to Site Selection Design and Construction of Dredged Material Containment Areas for Aquaculture written by Debbie Nettles and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Approximately 40 percent of dredged material generated from coastal dredging activities is placed into diked dredged material containment areas or DMCA. Because suitable sites are often difficult and expensive to acquire, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local dredging sponsors have an ongoing interest in programs that may help in making real estate available for DMCA construction. The adaptation of diked disposal areas for aquaculture is especially interesting because DMCA's and aquaculture ponds share many characteristics, including perimeter dikes, structures to regulate water levels, construction on impervious soils, and many similar permit requirements. This publication provides guidelines for evaluating and selecting sites and for designing and constructing sites for the uses of dredged material disposal and aquaculture. Also included are examples of potential species for new operations"--National Sea Grant Library publication website.

This handbook is a useful overview of a demonstration project's results; site selection, design and construction; project planning and design; economics and business planning; and legal considerations. It will be of interest to aquaculturists, landowners, coastal zone planners, and other potential users of the containment area aquaculture concept"--National Sea Grant Library publication website.

Book Design and Construction of Aquaculture Facilities in Dredged Material Containment Areas

Download or read book Design and Construction of Aquaculture Facilities in Dredged Material Containment Areas written by Jurij Homziak and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is inteded to provide an overview of the considerable knowledge and experience that has been developed worldwide in the design, construction, and operations planning of pond-based aquaculture systems Because this is a complex subject and requirements for specific situations are highly variable, only generalized, conservative views will be presented. The review is not intended for experts or those experienced in aquaculture pond design and construction. it is intended primarily as an information resource for those involved in aquaculture development.

Book Handbook of Dredging Engineering

Download or read book Handbook of Dredging Engineering written by John B. Herbich and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2000 with total page 1522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authoritative, up-to-date guide to dredging theory and practice. From selecting the right equipment, to evaluating environmental impact, to bidding on a project, Handbook of Dredging Engineering, Second Edition, is the last word on modern hydraulic dredging. Edited by John B. Herbich, with contributions by well-know experts in the field, the Handbook examines basic fluid mechanics; dredge pumps; dredging equipment; sediment; pipeline transport of solids; dredging methods; disposal and placement of dredged material; numerical models for predicting the fate of dredged material placed in open water; environmental effects of dredging activities; instrumentation and automation; and project planning. This vital new edition covers major advances made over the last seven years. Three chapters are new to this edition: numerical models for predicting the fate of dredged material...subaqueous capping of contaminated sediment...and removal of contaminated sediments by dredging, with illustrative case studies.
