Book Circular Storage Tanks and Silos Third Edition

Download or read book Circular Storage Tanks and Silos Third Edition written by Amin Ghali and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Design Aid for Structural Engineers Circular Storage Tanks and Silos, Third Edition effectively explains and demonstrates the concepts needed in the analysis and design of circular tanks. Tanks have to sustain high-quality serviceability over a long lifespan. This text covers computing the stresses in service in several chapters. It considers thermal stresses and the time-dependent stresses produced by creep and shrinkage of concrete and relaxation of prestressed steel. It also examines the effects of cracking and the means for its control. This text is universally applicable; no specific system of units is used in most solved examples. However, it is advantageous to use actual dimensions and forces on the structure in a small number of examples. These problems are set in SI units and Imperial units; the answers and the graphs related to these examples are given in the two systems. What’s New in This Edition: Presents a new chapter on recommended practice for design and construction of concrete water tanks and liquefied natural gas tanks Includes a companion Website providing computer programs CTW and SOR Provides material on CTW (Cylindrical Tank Walls); with simple input, it performs analysis for load combinations anticipated in the design of cylindrical walls with or without prestressing Contains the finite-element computer program SOR (Shells of Revolution); it performs analysis for design of axisymmetrical shells of general shapes This guide is an authoritative resource for the analysis and design of circular storage tanks and silos.

Book Large Scale Testing and Modelling of Reinforced Concrete Flat Plate Systems in Seismic Areas

Download or read book Large Scale Testing and Modelling of Reinforced Concrete Flat Plate Systems in Seismic Areas written by Dritan Topuzi and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this research is on developing new punching shear retrofit techniques for slab-column connections to improve the seismic response of flat-plate systems. Previous tests have shown the effectiveness of using shear reinforcement to enhance the shear strength and ductility of individual slab-column connections. However, while ductility reduces the earthquake impact on structures, increased stiffness attracts higher forces. Herein, a new type of punching shear retrofit element, shear bolts with flexible washers, is introduced.

Download or read book Seismic Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings written by Jack Moehle and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2014-10-06 with total page 783 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complete coverage of earthquake-resistant concrete building design Written by a renowned seismic engineering expert, this authoritative resource discusses the theory and practice for the design and evaluation of earthquakeresisting reinforced concrete buildings. The book addresses the behavior of reinforced concrete materials, components, and systems subjected to routine and extreme loads, with an emphasis on response to earthquake loading. Design methods, both at a basic level as required by current building codes and at an advanced level needed for special problems such as seismic performance assessment, are described. Data and models useful for analyzing reinforced concrete structures as well as numerous illustrations, tables, and equations are included in this detailed reference. Seismic Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings covers: Seismic design and performance verification Steel reinforcement Concrete Confined concrete Axially loaded members Moment and axial force Shear in beams, columns, and walls Development and anchorage Beam-column connections Slab-column and slab-wall connections Seismic design overview Special moment frames Special structural walls Gravity framing Diaphragms and collectors Foundations

Book Punching Shear Behaviour of GFRP RC Slab column Interior Connections with High Strength Concrete and Shear Reinforcement

Download or read book Punching Shear Behaviour of GFRP RC Slab column Interior Connections with High Strength Concrete and Shear Reinforcement written by Ahmed Hussein and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work deals with punching shear behaviour of flat plates reinforced with glass fibre-reinforced polymers (GFRP) reinforcing bars. Six full-scale reinforced concrete (RC) slab-column interior connections were constructed and tested to failure. Two variables were investigated; the flexural reinforcement ratio when high strength concrete (HSC) is used and the type of GFRP shear reinforcement (headed studs and corrugated bars) when normal strength concrete (NSC) is used. All specimens were tested under concentric shear force and unbalanced bending moment with a constant moment-to-shear ratio. Increasing the reinforcement ratio increased punching capacity and post-cracking stiffness for HSC connections. Both types of shear reinforcement increased the punching capacity and deflection of NSC connections. Test results were compared with the predictions of the available fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) design provisions in North American codes.
