Download or read book Gravel Roads written by Ken Skorseth and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual is to provide clear and helpful information for maintaining gravel roads. Very little technical help is available to small agencies that are responsible for managing these roads. Gravel road maintenance has traditionally been "more of an art than a science" and very few formal standards exist. This manual contains guidelines to help answer the questions that arise concerning gravel road maintenance such as: What is enough surface crown? What is too much? What causes corrugation? The information is as nontechnical as possible without sacrificing clear guidelines and instructions on how to do the job right.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual is a practical point of reference for the provision of safer pedestrian facilities in Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) countries. It focuses on the physical road infrastructure that can help pedestrians safely cross, and walk along, roads. It also outlines proven facilities that have been shown to assist pedestrians including those in the high-risk groups. Aimed at engineers, project managers, planners, traffic police, and other decision-makers, the manual shows how wise investment in pedestrian facilities can save lives, prevent injuries, and return major economic benefits to CAREC countries.

Download or read book The Vision Zero Handbook written by Karin Edvardsson Björnberg and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 1233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access handbook provides a comprehensive treatment of Vision Zero, an innovative policy on public road safety developed in Sweden. Covering all the major topics of the subject, the book starts out with a thorough examination of the philosophy, ideas and principles behind Vision Zero. It looks at conditions for the effectiveness of the policy, principles of safety and responsibility as well as critique on the policy. Next, the handbook focuses on how the Vision Zero ideas have been received and implemented in various legislations and countries worldwide. It takes into account the way Vision Zero is looked at in the context of international organizations such as the WHO, the UN, and the OECD. This allows for a comparison of systems, models and effects. The third part of the handbook discusses the management and leadership aspects, including ISO standards, equity issues, other goals for traffic and transportation, and opportunities for the car industry. Part four delves into tools, technologies and organizational measures that contribute to the implementation of Vision Zero in road traffic. Examples of specific elements discussed are urban and rural road designs, human factor designs, and avoiding drunk and distracted driving. The final part of the handbook offers perspectives on the transfer of Vision Zero policy to other areas, ranging from air traffic to suicide prevention and nuclear energy. Vision Zero is a public road safety policy including both a long-term goal that no one shall be killed or seriously injured as a consequence of accidents in road traffic and a safety principle stating that the design and function of the road transport system shall be adapted to meet the requirements that follow from that goal. It is a new road safety paradigm which has resulted in new types of responsibilities among stakeholders, technological innovations, and new strategies and organizational measures to achieve a safe system. The road safety work based on Vision Zero has shown promising results, and although Sweden has not yet reached a safe system, the number of fatalities and severe injuries has decreased substantially. This is an open access book.

Download or read book CAREC Road Safety Engineering Manual 3 written by Asian Development Bank and published by Asian Development Bank. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Single vehicle "run-of-road" crashes are a significant problem on CAREC roads. They are particularly severe and can occur anywhere and at any time. Identifying, investigating, and treating roadside hazards are significant road safety challenges along CAREC highways. This third manual in the series provides practical information about roadside hazard management for CAREC countries. It uses a roadside hazard management strategy and the clear zone concept to explain how CAREC road authorities can: (i) identify roadside hazards, (ii) investigate how best to treat those roadside hazards, and (iii) implement effective safety improvements. The manual explains the three groups of safety barriers and offers options for safer roadside furniture.
