This book was released on 2020-01-20 with total page 872 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Language standardization is an ongoing process based on the notions of linguistic correctness and models. This manual contains thirty-six chapters that deal with the theories of linguistic norms and give a comprehensive up-to-date description and analysis of the standardization processes in the Romance languages. The first section presents the essential approaches to the concept of linguistic norm ranging from antiquity to the present, and includes individual chapters on the notion of linguistic norms and correctness in classical grammar and rhetoric, in the Prague School, in the linguistic theory of Eugenio Coseriu, in sociolinguistics as well as in pragmatics, cognitive and discourse linguistics. The second section focuses on the application of these notions with respect to the Romance languages. It examines in detail the normative grammar and the normative dictionary as the reference tools for language codification and modernization of those languages that have a long and well-established written tradition, i.e. Romanian, Italian, French, Catalan, Spanish, and Portuguese. Furthermore, the volume offers a discussion of the key issues regarding the standardization of the ‘minor’ Romance languages as well as Creoles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the world, there has been much scholarly and general interest in French popular culture, but very little has been written on the subject in English. The authors of this book address that lack in a series of highly readable and well-documented essays describing French life styles, attitudes, and entertainments as well as the writers and performers currently favored by the French public. Several chapters explore French tastes in popular literature and other reading matter, including comics, cartoons, mystery and spy fiction, newspapers and magazines, and science fiction. Film, popular music, radio, and television are also discussed in detail, and influences from other cultures--particularly American imports--are assessed. The remaining essays examine French sports, the use of leisure time, the French style of eating and drinking, and relations between men and women and their attitudes toward romantic love. Each chapter provides up-to-date historical and bibliographic information that will enable the reader to pursue subjects of particular interest. Written by an international group of specialists, this handbook offers the benefits of broad coverage, a variety of viewpoints, and solid scholarship.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even for a professional, it’s not easy to choose from dozens of types of UAV that can perform various tasks. In order to choose for your particular needs, there are many questions that have to be addressed. For example : • What are the different types of drones and their uses ? • Is it better to build your drone yourself or buy a ready to fly model ? • What are the elements of the drone that will enable you to make the right choice ? • Which batteries to choose ? • Which remote control to choose ? A drone has to be seen as an aircraft carrying a payload. Finally, operation also has its constraints : • What precautions should be taken to operate in the field ? • How should you organize your tasks ? • How to set up the radio link to avoid a communication break ? • Which launch and recovery systems to use ? This book will help you answer these questions and ensure you get the most from your UAV. Chapter 1 : An aircraft for a successful flight Chapter 2 : Specifying your UAV Chapter 3 : Propulsion parts Chapter 4 : Specifying component Chapter 5 : The payload’s design Chapter 6 : Operation Chapter 7 : A wide variety of civil users Bibliography Table of contents

Download or read book A Taste of Progress written by Nelleke Teughels and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World exhibitions have been widely acknowledged as important sources for understanding the development of the modern consumer and urbanized society, yet whilst the function and purpose of architecture at these major events has been well-studied, the place of food has received very little attention. Food played a crucial part in the lived experience of the exhibitions: for visitors, who could acquaint themselves with the latest food innovations, exotic cuisines and ’traditional’ dishes; for officials attending lavish banquets; for the manufacturers who displayed their new culinary products; and for scientists who met to discuss the latest technologies in food hygiene. Food stood as a powerful semiotic device for communicating and maintaining conceptions of identity, history, traditions and progress, of inclusion and exclusion, making it a valuable tool for researching the construction of national or corporate sentiments. Combining recent developments in food studies and the history of major international exhibitions, this volume provides a refreshing alternative view of these international and intercultural spectacles.
