Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guerre, diaspora, ONG...

Book Routledge Handbook of International Organization

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of International Organization written by Bob Reinalda and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-12-09 with total page 974 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This completely revised and rewritten handbook gives an overview of international organization (IO) as a dynamic field of research that adds to our understanding of global and regional relations and related domestic politics. Bringing together international scholars from a range of disciplines, it considers both IO as a process and multilateral organizations as institutions. This handbook is divided into five parts: I. Documentation, sources and perspectives II. International secretariats as bureaucracies III. Actors within and beyond international bureaucracies IV. Processes within and beyond international bureaucracies V. Challenges to international organizations Containing new chapters on topics such as the anthropological perspective, IO secretariats in several continents outside of Europe, feminization, the digital turn and challenges to IO legitimacy, the contributors reflect on the progression of IO studies from a burgeoning field to a well‐established subfield of international relations and the move away from scholarship based mainly in North‐Western Europe and the United States. This book will be of particular interest to scholars and students of IOs, global governance, diplomacy and foreign policy, as well as practitioners of multilateral cooperation.

Book Resources and Applied Methods in International Relations

Download or read book Resources and Applied Methods in International Relations written by Guillaume Devin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-18 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes an up-to-date methodology reference work for International Relations (IR) scholars and students. The study of IR calls for the use of multiple and various tools to try and describe international phenomena, analyze and understand them, compare them, interpret them, and try to offer theoretical approaches. In a nutshell, doing research in IR requires both tools and methods—from the use of archives to the translation of results through mapping, from conducting interviews to analyzing quantitative data, from constituting a corpus to the always touchy interpretation of images and discourses. This volume assembles twenty young researchers and professors in the field of IR and political science to discuss numerous rich and thoroughly explained case studies. Merging traditional political science approaches with methods borrowed from sociology and history, it offers a clear and instructive synthesis of the main resources and applied methods to study International Relations.

Download or read book Disasterland written by Sandrine Revet and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the making of the international world of ‘natural’ disasters by its professionals. Through a long-term ethnographic study of this arena, the author unveils the various elements that are necessary for the construction of an international world: a collective narrative, a shared language, and standardized practices. The book analyses the two main framings that these professionals use to situate themselves with regards to a disaster: preparedness and resilience, arguing that the making of the world of ‘natural’ disasters reveals how heterogeneous, conflicting, and sometimes competing elements are put together.

Book L enqu te en danger

Download or read book L enqu te en danger written by Philippe Aldrin and published by Armand Colin. This book was released on 2022-01-19 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. .

Book Quelle sociologie politique pour l enqu te globale

Download or read book Quelle sociologie politique pour l enqu te globale written by Antoine VAUCHEZ Grégory DAHO and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2021-02-25 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Public and Private Welfare in Modern Europe

Download or read book Public and Private Welfare in Modern Europe written by Fabio Giomi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-03-29 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1980s, neoliberals have openly contested the idea that the state should protect the socio-economic well-being of its citizens, making ‘privatization’ their mantra. Yet, as historians and social scientists have shown, welfare has always been a ‘mixed economy’, wherein private and public actors dynamically interacted, collaborating or competing with each other in the provision of welfare services. This book will be of interest to students, scholars and practitioners of welfare by developing three innovative approaches. Firstly, it illuminates the productive nature of public/private entanglements. Far from amounting to a zero-sum game, the interactions between the two sectors have changed over time what welfare encompasses, its contents and targets, often engendering the creation of new fields of intervention. Secondly, this book departs from a well-established tradition of comparison between Western nation-states by using and mixing various scales of analysis (local, national, international and global) and by covering case studies from Spain to Poland and France to Greece in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Thirdly, this book goes beyond state centrism in welfare studies by bringing back a host of public and private actors, from municipalities to international organizations, from older charities to modern NGOs.
