Book Permit Writer s Guide to Test Burn Data

Download or read book Permit Writer s Guide to Test Burn Data written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Center for Environmental Research Information has preparedthis test burn data book for use i the permitting and testing of hazardous waste incinerators regulated under the Resouce Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The test results summarized represent hazardous waste test burns conducted at 23 full-scale stationary incinerators in the United States. nine of these tests were designed and conducted by EPA and its contractors as part of EPA's Regulatory Impact Analysis of the RCRA incinerator regulations. The others were conducted separately and individually by private industrial concerns and their contractors as part of their Part B application requirements for obtaining full operating permits under RCRA. In addition to the incinerator data, this book also presents results of tests at 11 lime, cement, and aggregate kilns and 11 industrial boilers. The EPA Hazardous Waste Engineering Research Laboratory conducted most of these tests as part of an overall research program aimed at determining the efficiency of these thermal unites for cofiring (and thereby destroying) hazardous wastes as fuel supplements or replacements. This is the first itme a data book containing results from a wide variety of combustion tests has been assembled. The book is intended to be used as a data source for reference purposes in developing and reviewing trial burn plans. It should be used in conjunction with other EPA guidance documents on hazardous waste incineration, such as the EPA Engineering Handbook for Hazardous Waste Incineration (EPA-SW-889) and the EPA Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Incinerator Permits (EPA-SW-966). The user is cautioned to exercise professional judgment when using the data in this document. Some of the data are of questionable value, and accordingly, every effort has been made to identify or flag such information. The user is also cautioned to critically evaluate the procedures and methodologies used to generate the data in this document, and to design future trial test burns in accordance with current guidance. Finally, since the data for this document was assembled in 1985, the results of several additional incinerator trial burns have been reported to various EPA Regions and authorized States. Thus, additional data are available for expansion of this data base, if desired. EPA Regional and State RCRA permit writers should be contacted for details of these more recent test burns.

Book Introduction to Hazardous Waste Incineration

Download or read book Introduction to Hazardous Waste Incineration written by Joseph J. Santoleri and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2000-10-24 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Hazardous Waste Incineration, Second Edition The control of hazardous wastes is one of today's most critical environmental issues. Increasing numbers of engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel are being confronted with problems in this important area. Incineration has become an available and vital option to meet the new challenge of containing hazardous wastes. Introduction to Hazardous Waste Incineration, Second Edition provides a reference work that examines the basic concepts, principles, equipment, and applications pertaining to hazardous waste incineration. Uniquely serving as both an essential guidebook for practicing engineers and a text for engineering students, this new edition contains updated information in the area of standards and regulations, equipment, materials handling equipment, instrumentation, control performance testing, final permit, and facility design. The authors' aim is to offer the reader the fundamentals of incineration with appropriate practical application to the incineration of wastes, in addition to providing an introduction to the specialized literature in this and related areas. Complete with illustrative examples, this informative Second Edition highlights: * Recent history of standards and regulations, including the recently enacted MACT Standards for hazardous waste combustion * Incineration principles, including stoichiometric calculations, and thermochemical considerations * Equipment that may be found in a waste incineration facility (i.e., incinerator, waste heat boiler, quench systems, and air pollution control equipment) * Design principles and their application to a hazardous waste incineration facility * Practice problems at the end of each technical chapter Introduction to Hazardous Waste Incineration, Second Edition offers chemical and environmental engineers working in the hazardous waste control area, as well as technicians and maintenance professionals, the necessary literature to cope with some of the complex problems encountered in waste incineration today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hazardous Waste Q & A An In-depth Guide to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and The Hazardous Materials Transportation Act Revised Edition Travis P. Wagner The "Answer Book" for all your compliance questions. How much of your company's waste is considered "hazardous" under current federal regulations? If the carrier you hire to remove waste is cited for a violation, can you also be held liable? Does your company's disposal program meet new EPA and DOT requirements? Now you can find the authoritative answers to these and hundreds of other critical waste management problems--in minutes--with the revised edition of this practical, quick-reference guide to RCRA and HMTA compliance. The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Hazardous Materials Transportation Act have spawned an enormous and complex body of regulations and requirements--among the most complicated laws in the land. Unfortunately, while ensuring compliance with these regulations is a top priority for both the EPA and DOT. helping businesses understand and comply with the regulations is not. Written by a former technical compliance specialist for EPA. The Hazardous Waste Q&A helps you make sure your waste management practices fully meet these tough regulations--and will help you reduce your liability, too. The Hazardous Waste Q&A simplifies hazardous waste management under RCRA and HMTA by presenting these highly technical and often difficult to interpret regulations in an easy-to-understand, easy-to-use question-and-answer format. This approach lets you go straight to the help you need without digging through pages and pages of dense, technical detail. You'll find EPA-approved procedures and solutions for virtually every practical aspect of hazardous waste management: * Identification and Classification Guidelines * Requirements for Medium-and Large-Quantity Generators * Transportation under RCRA and HMTA * Recycling, Storage, Treatment, and Disposal * Ground Water Monitoring * Closure and Post-Closure * Financial Requirements * Operating and Post-Closure Permits * Corrective Action * State Regulations and Enforcement Questions were developed from thousands of actual inquiries received at EPA and from the author's experience consulting on hazardous wastes for private industry. In preparing the answers and guidelines, Mr. Wagner went beyond the regulations themselves to gather additional facts and insights from source documents not readily available to the layman, including OSWER Directives, Regulatory Interpretation Letters, Program Implementation Guidance, EPA policy memos and guidance manuals, DOT guidance manuals, Federal Register preambles, and RCRA/Superfund Hotline Monthly Reports. Thus, users will find Q&A not just convenient but authoritative and in depth## For everyone concerned with hazardous## managers, health and safety managers, attor## Q&A is an unrivalled productivity resource.
