Book excerpt: Gli scienziati lo hanno capito da anni grazie alla teoria della complessità: il clima è un sistema composto da più fattori singoli che interagiscono tra loro attraverso modelli che - per essere compresi – richiedono un’elaborazione con super computer. Lo stesso vale per la nozione più ampia e complessa di ambiente - di cui il 5 giugno, si celebra la Giornata Mondiale e che è l’occasione di questa guida che fa un’analisi di alcuni fra i principali temi sul tappeto -, che ancora troppo spesso viene percepito come qualcosa di diverso, esterno all’essere umano. Eppure la crisi climatica - con le sue conseguenze devastanti - richiede una nuova consapevolezza: è indispensabile adottare un approccio sistemico alle grandi questioni ambientali, se si vuole intervenire rapidamente e in modo efficace. Non può esistere una tecnologia o una innovazione che di per sè possa essere risolutiva. Sono indispensabili iniziative che agiscano a più livelli. Innanzitutto politico, dove l’ambiente deve tornare a essere – quale è - un bene comune, di tutti e indivisibile. Ciò significa che in suo nome dovrà essere adottata una visione di lungo periodo, capace di tradursi, poi, in politiche e regole talvolta impopolari sia per l’elettorato sia per i cittadini. Politiche e regole che nel caso della transizione green sappiano tenere in conto anche la sostenibilità economica e sociale affinché i costi non si trasformino in nuovi fattori di disuguaglianza e ingiustizia.

Book excerpt: La sostenibilità ambientale è un concetto difficile da relegare all’interno di una semplice definizione. Passa per la necessità di considerare in primis il compromesso con la sua efficienza economica, condizione di base dalla quale qualsiasi azienda ad essa orientata deve partire per poterla prendere in considerazione. Il ruolo del settore pubblico e degli incentivi economici, che questo mette periodicamente a disposizione alle aziende, sono emersi dalle statistiche come essenziali ma non sufficienti per accelerare la transizione green, ancora lenta e quantitativamente inadeguata. I punti di stimolo su cui far leva per accelerarla farebbero riferimento allo sviluppo di sinergie industriali, collaborazioni fra aziende della filiera, relazioni con la comunità locale e il territorio, valorizzazione economica ed ecologica dei prodotti/rifiuti/materie prime, quindi ritorni economici e reputazionali. L’Europa e le Nazioni Unite si mobilitano oramai dagli anni ’90 per permettere la concretizzazione di questi stimoli a vari livelli. Negli ultimi anni strumenti come il Green Deal europeo e il Piano di Ripresa e Resilienza vengono sviluppati con la speranza di implementare il più velocemente possibile una riconversione verso l’economia circolare e gli obiettivi dell’Agenda 2030. Gli ostacoli sono molti, ma dalla ricerca condotta sulle aziende del territorio emiliano romagnolo emerge la voglia di cambiamento che parte da un sentimento di riscatto, diretta alla volontà di dare il proprio contributo alla transizione ecologica. La transizione dovrà diventare la normalità operativa di un Paese che avrà già però prima cambiato il suo modo di pensare individualmente a riguardo, di una società che avrà modificato le proprie abitudini. La riconversione dovrà essere resa possibile ad ogni azienda e accessibile in ogni settore produttivo. Questo è compito delle istituzioni e dei sistemi finanziari. Solo quando realmente non sarà lasciato indietro nessuno, si potrà dire di aver raggiunto gli obiettivi sottesi dalla definizione di sostenibilità ambientale.

Una visione a lungo termine, basata su principi ecoinnovativi, consentirà invece di sviluppare nuovi modelli aziendali capaci di capitalizzare su attività volte a risolvere i problemi ambientali più gravosi, quali il cambiamento climatico, la scarsità delle risorse e la riduzione della biodiversità.
