Book Guida all Eurocodice 1

Download or read book Guida all Eurocodice 1 written by Professor Nicholas Cook Traduzione di G Barbella and published by EPC srl. This book was released on 2010-10-30 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Materials Technologies and Practice in Historic Heritage Structures

Download or read book Materials Technologies and Practice in Historic Heritage Structures written by Maria Bostenaru-Dan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-15 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One distinct feature of human society since the dawn of civilization is the systematic use of inorganic building materials, such as natural stone, unburnt and burnt soil, adobe and brick, inorganic binders like lime and cement, and reinforced concrete. Our heritage has cultural, architectural and technological value and preserving such structures is a key issue today. Planners and conservation scientists need detailed site surveys and analyses to create a database that will serve to guide subsequent actions. One factor in this knowledge base is an understanding of how historic materials were prepared and the crucial properties that influence their long-term behaviour. Any assessment of the way such materials perform must crucially be based on an understanding of the methods used for their analysis. The editors here add to the knowledge base treating the materials used in historic structures, their properties, technology of use and conservation, and their performance in a changing environment. The book draws together 18 chapters dealing with the inorganic materials used in historic structures, such as adobe, brick, stone, mortars, concrete and plasters. The approach is complex, covering material characterisation as well as several case studies of historic structures from Europe, including Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Slovenia and Spain, and the My Sõn Temples in Vietnam. An equally important component of the book covers the analysis of materials, together with a treatment of sustainable development, such as the protection of monuments from earthquakes and climate change. The authors are all leading international experts, drawn from a variety of backgrounds: architecture, civil engineering, conservation science, geology and material science, with close links to professional organisations such as ICOMOS or universities and research centres throughout Europe. Audience: This book will be of interest to geologists, engineers, restorers, consulting engineers, designers and other professionals dealing with cultural heritage and sustainable development. Also graduate students in applied geo-science (mineralogy, geochemistry, petrology), architecture and civil engineering will find interesting information in this book.

Book Seismic Design and Analysis of Tanks

Download or read book Seismic Design and Analysis of Tanks written by Gian Michele Calvi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-04-11 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seismic Design and Analysis of Tanks A detailed view on the effects of seismic activity on tank structures As the use of above-ground and underground storage tanks (ASTs and USTs) continues to grow—with approximately 545,000 in the USA alone—the greatest threat to ASTs and USTs is earthquakes, causing the contamination of groundwater, a vital source of drinking water throughout the world. These tanks suffer a great deal of strain during an earthquake, as a complicated pattern of stress affects them, such that poorly designed tanks have leaked, buckled, or even collapsed during seismic events. Furthermore, in oil and gas industrial plants, the risk of damage is even more critical due to the effects of explosion, collapse, and air or soil contamination by chemical fluid spillages. Seismic Design and Analysis of Tanks provides the first in-depth discussion of the principles and applications of shell structure design and earthquake engineering analyses focused on tank structures, and it explains how these methodologies can help prevent the destruction of ASTs and USTs during earthquakes. Providing a thorough examination of the design, analysis, and performance of steel, reinforced concrete, and precast tanks, this book takes a look at tanks that are above-ground, underground, or elevated, anchored and unanchored, and rigid or flexible, and evaluates the efficacy of each method during times of seismic shaking—and it does so without getting bogged down in impenetrable mathematics and theory. Seismic Design and Analysis of Tanks readers will also find: A global approach to the best analytical and practical solutions available in each region: discussion of the latest US codes and standards from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ACSE 7), the American Concrete Institute (ACI 350,3, 371.R), the American Water Works Association (AWWA D100, D110, D115), and the American Petroleum Institute (API 650) an overview of the European codes and standards, including Eurocode 8-4 and CEN-EN 14015 Hundreds of step-by-step equations, accompanied by illustrations Photographs illustrating real-world damage to tanks caused by seismic events Perfect for practising structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, civil engineers, and engineers of all kinds who are responsible for the design, analysis, and performance of tanks and their foundations—as well as students studying engineering—Seismic Design and Analysis of Tanks is a landmark text, the first work of its kind to deal with the seismic engineering performance of all types of storage tanks.

The 62 contributions contained in this book cover a wide variety of topics, including composite beams, composite columns, composite decks, joints, shear connections, fire behavior, seismic behavior, fatigue and fracture, codification, composite bridges, innovative hybrid structures, numerical investigations and practical applications. The Papers are peer-reviewed by the Scientific Board and may be adapted based on the outcome of the discussions during the conference. This book therefore summarizes the state-of-the-art in composite construction worldwide, as presented at the 9th International Conference on Composite Construction in Steel and Concrete hosted by the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, University of Stuttgart, RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau and University of Luxembourg, representing the work of authors from 18 countries.

Book Structural Steel Semirigid Connections

Download or read book Structural Steel Semirigid Connections written by Ciro Faella and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-10-27 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the semirigidity concept was introduced many years ago, steel structures are usually designed by assuming that beam-to-column joints are either pinned or rigid. Theses assumptions allow a great simplification in structural analysis and design-but they neglect the true behavior of joints. The economic and structural benefits of semirigid joints are well known and much has been written about their use in braced frames. However, they are seldom used by designers, because most semirigid connections have highly nonlinear behavior, so that the analysis and design of frames using them is difficult. In fact, the design problem becomes more difficult as soon as the true rotational behavior of beam-to-column joints is accounted for-the design problem requires many attempts to achieve a safe and economical solution. Structural Steel Semirigid Connections provides a comprehensive source of information on the design of semirigid frames, up to the complete detailing of beam-to-column connections, and focuses on the prediction of the moment-rotation curve of connections. This is the first work that contains procedures for predicting the connection plastic rotation supply-necessary for performing the local ductility control in nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. Extensive numerical examples clarify the practical application of the theoretical background. This exhaustive reference and the awareness it provides of the influence of joint rotational behavior on the elastic and inelastic responses of structures will greatly benefit researchers, professionals, and specification writing bodies devoted to structural steel.

Book Response Spectrum Method in Seismic Analysis and Design of Structures

Download or read book Response Spectrum Method in Seismic Analysis and Design of Structures written by Ajaya Kumar Gupta and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New developments in the response spectrum method have led to calculations in seismic stresses that are more accurate, and usually lower, than those obtained by conventional methods. This new textbook examines the wealth of information on the response spectrum method generated by the latest research and presents the background theory in simplified form. Applications of these methods is essential in the seismic design of critical structures, such as nuclear power plants and petroleum facilities. In new construction, the reduced seismic stresses will result in efficient and economic design. For facilities already built, these more accurate methods can be used where the facility is being reassessed for higher loads and in the calculation of margins. Written by an acknowledged expert in this and related fields, this volume is ideal as a graduate text for courses in structural and earthquake engineering. It is also an excellent reference for civil, structural, mechanical, and earthquake engineers.
