A partir de esta experiencia, se han ido desarrollando diversas iniciativas de transición en barrios, ciudades y pueblos que han dado lugar a una red internacional que comparte conocimientos, materiales, emociones y herramientas. Una de las claves de la expansión viral del movimiento es que ha logrado incidir, por ejemplo, en la agricultura, la economía, los servicios, el transporte, las relaciones o la construcción. Se han puesto en marcha bancos de tiempo, monedas locales, dinámicas participativas, planes de descenso energético, huertos urbanos y muchas otras actividades que demuestran que la transformación local es posible y está en nuestras manos. Esta guía recoge las aportaciones del movimiento de transición y también permite conocer muchas de las iniciativas que se han desarrollado en nuestro país permitiéndonos aprender desde la experiencia. Así que, como dice Rob Hopkins en el prólogo, "utiliza todo aquello que te resulte útil de este libro e inspírate para imaginar de nuevo el lugar en que vives".
