Por un lado, quiero destacar la novedad de la investigación sobre una región en la que convergen los grandes conflictos del siglo XXI, lo cual no ha recibido el debido tratamiento académico en el ámbito latinoamericano. Como afirma uno de los expertos consultados, "se han hecho trabajos desde México, Argentina y Brasil; no obstante, la bibliografia en español es mínima, por lo que presentar una obra desde la percepción colombiana, es innovador, y se hace frente a vacíos académicos". Segundo, quiero resaltar la variedad de enfoques, y los lugares y orígenes fisicos y epistemológicos del trabajo de los distintos analistas que aquí escriben, no eurocéntrica, sino latinoamericana y global. El lector encontrará aproximaciones históricas, antropológicas, sociológicas, o desde la disciplina de las relaciones internacionales, todas inmersas en diálogo entre sí, sin apegos a lineamientos dogmáticos. Como afirma uno de los evaluadores, el lector encontrará que "muchas problemáticas sociopolíticas de los países del Medio Oriente y del Norte de África se viven en los países de América Latina y es una puerta para que seamos escribanos de los acontecimientos sociales, políticos y económicos; de ahí la relevancia de la presente obra".
