This book was released on 2013-07-09 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gamma-Glutamyl Transpeptidases (γ-GTs) are members of the N-terminal nucleophile hydrolase superfamily, enzymes that cleave the γ-glutamyl amide bond of glutathione to liberate cysteinylglycine. The released γ-glutamyl group can be transferred to water (hydrolysis) or to amino acids or short peptides (transpeptidation). γ-GT plays a key role in the gamma glutamyl cycle by regulating the cellular levels of the antioxidant glutathione, hence it is a critical enzyme in maintaining cellular redox homeostasis.γ-GT is upregulated during inflammation and in several human tumors, and it is involved in many physiological disorders related to oxidative stress, such as Parkinson’s disease and diabetes. Furthermore, this enzyme is used as a marker of liver disease and cancer. This book covers current knowledge about the structure-function relationship of γ-GTs and gives information about applications of γ-GTs in different fields ranging from clinical biochemistry to biotechnology and biomedicine.

Book Health Promotion in Medical Education

Download or read book Health Promotion in Medical Education written by Ann Wylie and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-08 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health promotion has been a relatively overlooked area in modern medical and health professional vocational curricula. This practical and informative book aims to redress the balance towards health promotion being a visible, integrated curricular component, with agreed principles on quality in health promotion teaching across various faculties. Experienced and enthusiastic writers with expertise in health promotion, public health and medical education explore how curricular structures can accommodate the discipline, providing examples of teaching sessions and methods of teaching health promotion within integrated curricula. 'Do not fear another dry discussion of how to stop patients smoking! This book takes a stimulatingly lateral view of the scope of the subject, goes a very long way to showing why it is essential to medical education, and gives good advice on how to support and develop both the subject and its tutors in today's medical schools.' From the Foreword by Amanda Howe.

Book Novel Techniques in Recovering Embedding and Enforcing Policies for Control Flow Integrity

Download or read book Novel Techniques in Recovering Embedding and Enforcing Policies for Control Flow Integrity written by Yan Lin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-30 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are three fundamental components in Control-Flow Integrity (CFI) enforcement. The first component is accurately recovering the policy (CFG). Usually, the more precise the policy is, the more security CFI improves, but precise CFG generation was considered hard without the support of source code. The second component is embedding the CFI policy securely. Current CFI enforcement usually inserts checks before indirect branches to consult a read-only table which stores the valid CFG information. However, this kind of read-only table can be overwritten by some kinds of attacks (e.g., the Rowhammer attack and data-oriented programming). The third component is to efficiently enforce the CFI policy. In current approaches CFI checks are always executed whenever there is an indirect control flow transfer. Therefore, it is critical to minimize the performance impact of CFI checks. In this book, we propose novel solutions to handle these three fundamental components. To generate a precise CFI policy without the support of the source code, we systematically study two methods which recover CFI policy based on function signature matching at the binary level and propose our novel rule- and heuristic-based mechanism to more accurately recover function signature. To embed CFI policy securely, we design a novel platform which encodes the policy into the machine instructions directly without relying on consulting any read-only data structure, by making use of the idea of instruction-set randomization. Each basic block is encrypted with a key derived from the CFG. To efficiently enforce CFI policy, we make use of a mature dynamic code optimization platform called DynamoRIO to enforce the policy so that we are only required to do the CFI check when needed.

Book Development of Predictor and Criterion Measures for the NCO21 Research Program

Download or read book Development of Predictor and Criterion Measures for the NCO21 Research Program written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NCO21 research program was undertaken to help the U.S. Army plan for the impact of future demands on the noncommissioned officer (NCO) corps. The performance requirements and associated knowledge, skills, and aptitudes (KSAs) expected of future successful NCOs were used as a basis for developing tools that could be incorporated into an NCO performance management system geared to 21st century job demands. This report documents the design and development of predictor and criterion measures that will be used in a criterion-related validation data collection. The predictor measures include the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), Assessment of Individual Motivation (AIM), and Biographical Information Questionnaire (BIQ), which are operational tests already used in the Army for other purposes. A written Situational Judgment Test (SJT), the Experience and Activities Record (ExAct), Personnel File Form (PFF21), and a semi-structured interview were developed for this project. Two types of rating scale instruments were developed for gathering criterion data. The Observed Performance Rating Scales ask supervisors to rate soldiers on how well they perform in their current jobs. The Expected Future Performance Rating Scales ask supervisors to predict how their soldiers would perform in specific sets of conditions expected to be characteristic of future Army requirements.
