Book Principles of Property Investment and Pricing

Download or read book Principles of Property Investment and Pricing written by Will Fraser and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1993-11-11 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive analysis of property investment and the market's determination of commercial property values and investment performance. The author examines the economic forces that operate in the property market by placing property in the context of the overall investment market and the local, national and international economies. Relevant concepts and principles of economics, investment and finance are identified; these are then used to explain the operation of the property market and property price determination. The text begins with a study of the stock market, identifying the principles and forces which explain the price determination of stocks and shares. These principles are then applied to commercial property investments and a simple theory is developed. The three major sectors of the property market (letting, development and investment) are then analysed in depth, and the pricing theory is reviewed. After an examination of the influence of government intervention, the subject is synthesised by detailed studies of three of the most turbulent periods in the history of the post Second World War property market in the UK. In this second edition, both the text and illustrative examples have been updated. The theory of the market's determination of rental values and yields have been substantially revised and developed. A new chapter, discussing the 1980s property boom and the 1990s collapse, has been added.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Those who choose to increase their knowledge still further by reading ... will discover an exciting new world. " NOEL WHITTAKER, in "Making Money Made Simple" 1989. The development of calcium antagonists has recently been described as representing "one of the major advances in cardiovascular thera peutics of the latter half of the twentieth century" (Braunwald, 1990). However, although the development of these drugs started in the mid nineteen sixties it is only recently that their real potential has begun to be appreciated. Even now the calcium antagonist saga is not complete, since new compounds continue to appear and new therapeutic applica tions emerge. Based on the experience gained in the clinics in which these drugs have been used recognition is being given now to the need to improve upon the prototypes of the group. Such improvement is resulting in the development and production not only of long-acting formulations of the prototypes (nifedipine, verapamil and diltiazem) but also of new calcium antagonists with improved tissue selectivity, potency and duration of action. To those of us who are interested in this field such a development is both exciting and rewarding. As far as the clinicians who prescribe these drugs are concerned the long-acting nature of some of the newer calcium antagonists should make the satisfactory management of their patients an achievable goal.

Book excerpt: In the era of the Anthropocene, site matters are more pressing than ever. Building on the concepts, theories, and multi-disciplinary approaches raised in the first edition, this publication strives to address the changes that have taken place over the last 15 years with new material to complement and re-position the initial volume. Reaching across design disciplines, this highly illustrated anthology assembles essays from architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners, historians, and artists to explore ways to physically and conceptually engage site. Thoughtful discourse and empirically grounded pieces combine to provide the language and theory to contextualize the meanings of site in the built environment. The increasingly complex hybridity of constructed environments today demands new tools for thinking about and working with site. Drawing contributions from outside and within the traditional design disciplines, this edition will trace important developments in site thinking with new essays on topics such as climate change, landscape as infrastructure, shifts from global to planetary urbanization debates, and the proliferation of participatory site transformation practices. Edited by two leading practitioners and academics, Site Matters juxtaposes timeless contributions from individuals including Elizabeth Meyer, Robert Beauregard, and Robin Dripps with original new writings from Peter Marcuse, Jane Wolff, Neil Brenner, and Thaisa Way, amongst others, to recontextualize and reignite the debate around site. An ideal text for students, academics, and researchers interested in site and design theory.
