Download or read book Growth Points in Cognition written by Guy Claxton and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2025-01-06 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Cognition’ is not so much a field as a forest. It presents the newcomer with an immense wealth of detail: theories, models, terms and findings that are entangled and sometimes seemingly impenetrable. There is plenty of new growth – of which some will thrive and some will not. And a lot of dead wood too, some recognised and some not. How is the student to begin to make sense of all this? Originally published in 1988, Growth Points in Cognition provided a much-needed perspective, presenting those key topics in cognitive psychology that were likely to shape the development of the subject over the next decade. The contributors discuss important areas of cognition such as perception, action, memory, comprehension and problem-solving, and examine the increasingly fruitful interplay between cognition and the allied fields of neuropsychology, cross-cultural psychology, and development. Today it can be read in its historical context.
Download or read book Growth Points in Nuclear Physics written by P. E. Hodgson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growth Points in Nuclear Physics, Volume 2 covers the progress in the fields of nuclear structure and nuclear reactions. This book is composed of three chapters. The first chapter is devoted to nuclear forces and potentials, in particular the optical model potential that enables the elastic scattering of many particles by nuclei to be calculated in a very simple manner. This chapter also deals with the three-body forces and the spin dependence of the nuclear potential. The second chapter describes higher order processes involving two or more stages, specifically their intrinsic interest and the effect they can have on the total cross-section. The third chapter examines heavy ion reactions, one of the most prominent growth areas of contemporary nuclear physics. Heavy ion reactions are particularly sensitive to some features of nuclear structure, and thus constitute a powerful tool in nuclear structure research. This book will prove useful to nuclear physicists.
Download or read book Physics of Space Growth Points and Problems written by Nicole Meyer-Vernet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-11-30 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the Proceedings of the second "Rencontres de l'Observatoire" devoted to Physics of Space: Growth Points and Problems, held at the Paris Observatory at Meudon, on January 10-14, 2000. The last quarter of the century has seen the vertiginous growth of space achievements and the exploration of much of the heliosphere with beautifully instrumented space probes. Even though the heliosphere is merely one particular cosmic environment, it is presently the only one accessible to in situ measurements and hence plays a unique role as a natural laboratory for physics and astrophysics. In this spirit, the conference highlighted recent achievements which have changed our view of the physics of space, with emphasis on the bridges between space plasma physics and other disciplines. The contributions include the physics of collisionless plasmas - in particular particle acceleration and dissipation, dusty plasmas, cosmic winds and jets, the environments of planetary bodies and pulsars, novel space detection techniques, and some landmarks of space physics history and possible futures.

Download or read book Ternary Alloys Based on IV VI and IV VI2 Semiconductors written by Vasyl Tomashyk and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-06-19 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IV-VI and IV-VI2 semiconductors are among the most interesting materials in semiconductor physics. The electrical properties of these semiconductors can also be tuned by adding impurity atoms. These semiconductors either have already found use or are promising materials for infrared sensors and sources, thermoelectric elements, solar cells, memory elements, etc. The basic characteristics of these compounds, namely, narrow bandgap, high permittivity, relatively high radiation resistance, high mobility of charge carriers, and high bond ionicity, are unique among semiconductor substances. Because of their wide application in various devices, the search for new semiconductor materials and the improvement of existing materials is an important field of study. Doping with impurities is a common method of modifying and diversifying the properties of physical and chemical semiconductors. This book covers all known information about phase relations in ternary systems based on IV-VI and IV-VI2 semiconductors, providing the first systematic account of phase equilibria in ternary systems and making research originally published in Russia accessible to the wider scientific community. This book will be of interest to undergraduate and graduate students studying materials science, solid state chemistry, and engineering. It will also be relevant for researchers at industrial and national laboratories, in addition to phase diagram researchers, inorganic chemists, and solid-state physicists. FEATURES Provides up-to-date experimental and theoretical information Allows readers to synthesize semiconducting materials with predetermined properties Delivers a critical evaluation of many industrially important systems presented in the form of two-dimensional sections for the condensed phases

Download or read book Land Development and Design written by Paul Syms and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-10-11 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Development of brownfield land can address shortfalls in the availability of land for housing and other buildings, but these sites present a range of problems that must be overcome in any successful development. Land, Development and Design addresses all of the issues in the context of the reuse of urban land, providing a solid, readable overview of the principles and practice of the regeneration of brownfield sites. Divided into four parts, covering the development process and planning policies; site assessment, risk analysis and remediation of contaminated land; development issues and finally design issues, the principal focus of the book is on the reuse of urban land. It includes a full discussion of contaminated land, so that readers are aware of the issues and options available to resolve this problem. Land, Development and Design has been extensively revised since its first edition and provides final year undergraduate and postgraduate students of both planning and surveying, as well as professional planners, surveyors and developers, a solid and readable overview of the principles and practice of regeneration of the built environment.
