Book Age Growth Sex Composition and Maturity of White Bass in Bull Shoals Reservoir

Download or read book Age Growth Sex Composition and Maturity of White Bass in Bull Shoals Reservoir written by Alfred Houser and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: White bass in Bull Shoals Reservoir were studied from October 1963 through January 1966 to determine age, growth, sex composition, and maturity. Average calculated total length for males and females were calculated at the end of each year of life through six years. Growth in Bull Shoals is similar to that of other southern waters. Growth was faster but lifespan shorter than in northern waters. Females outnumbered males 1.7 to 1. All 2-year old white bass were sexually mature, but most males were mature and only a few females were mature at 1 year. Large fluctuations in year-class strength were evident.

Book Changes in the Fish Population in Lake Francis Case in South Dakota in the First 16 Years of Impoundment

Download or read book Changes in the Fish Population in Lake Francis Case in South Dakota in the First 16 Years of Impoundment written by Charles R. Gasaway and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The total number of adult fish in Lake Frances Case, a main steam Missouri River Reservoir, has declined since impoundment in 1952. Goldeye, channel catfish, and northern redhorse have probably remained the same; emerald shiner, white bass, walleye, and possibly flathead catfish have increased. The sauger population began to decline at about the time walleye numbers increased. Some species formerly present have become rare. Forage species in the reservoir were gizzard shad, emerald shiner, and yellow perch, but these were not present in large enough numbers to provide an abundant forage fish population.

Book Changes in the Fish Population of Lewis and Clark Lake 1956 74 and Their Relation to Water Management and the Environment

Download or read book Changes in the Fish Population of Lewis and Clark Lake 1956 74 and Their Relation to Water Management and the Environment written by Charles H. Walburg and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water management of the Lewis and Clark Lake for flood control, hydroelectric power, navigation, and other purposes affected fish population levels. Fluctuating water levels in May and June affected fish spawning and survival of young. Suggested management measures may improve sport fish abundance, such as construction of spawning and nursery ponds near the reservoir or maintenance of higher water levels during May and June to enhance the reproduction opportunities for desirable species are either too costly or inconsistent with the primary flood-control function of the reservoir. Fish abundance with the present water management regimen will probably remain similar to that of the early 1970's.
