Download or read book Growth Characterization and Applications of Beta Barium Borate and Related Crystals written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emphasis of our program during the past year has been on improving the size and quality of beta-barium borate (BBO) crystal, develop the growth recipe for lithium triborate crystal (LBO), characterization of LBO, develop BBO optical parametric oscillators, and finally help establish commercial sources of these crystals. Progress was made in all these areas. First, on the BBO crystal growth technology, we have now succeeded in growing relatively large single crystals of good quality (see Figure 1). The technology have now been transferred successfully to Cleveland Crystals Inc. They are now the first and only commercial source of domestically produced BBO crystals in this country and our program is receiving royalty income from their sales to support our research effort.

Book Investigation of Top Seeded Solution Growth Kinetics of BBO Crystal

Download or read book Investigation of Top Seeded Solution Growth Kinetics of BBO Crystal written by Gilad Orr and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-09-11 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern high temperature crystal growth is a science which was greatly developed during WWII for the growth of large pure silicone and germanium single crystals, desperately needed for the development of the essential RADAR systems. By the end of the war, the body of knowledge in high temperature crystal growth was large. In the early sixties the solid state laser was developed, followed by twenty years in which much effort was invested into growing laser crystals. By the beginning of 1980's researchers from the Fujian Institute of Research realized that the low temperature phase of barium borate crystal may be exploited for high power lasers. The crystal known as the -Barium Borate ( -BBO) crystal, is important for its high power applications in frequency doubling, OPO and Q-switching. In the many years that have passed since its introduction, it was found that growing sufficiently long -BBO crystals is difficult due to the growth process prematurely terminating. In the current text, the complicated and complex phenomena involved in crystal growth are illustrated. The author introduces some surprising conclusions regarding the growth process of this specific crystal."

Book Crystal Growth of Multifunctional Borates and Related Materials

Download or read book Crystal Growth of Multifunctional Borates and Related Materials written by Nikolay I Leonyuk and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-05-03 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Borate crystals are attractive for different technological applications because of their favorable physical and chemical properties like stability and high transparency, both high thermal and non-linear optical coefficients, making them ideal active media for highly efficient solid state lasers. In this Special Issue, different aspects of multifunctional borate crystals are discussed, including ortho- and oxyorthoborates and compounds with condensed anions, as well as their nonlinear optical and laser properties and piezoelectric characteristics. For this reason, complex investigations of the phase relationships in multi-component borate melts, the study of crystal growth conditions of novel high-temperature borates, and the development of the “crystallization conditions, composition, structure, and properties” concept will provide a scientific basis for growth technologies of high performance electronic and optical devices and components with a variety of industrial, medical and many other applications. In the meantime, these relationships can help to estimate the affinity of synthetic borate materials with their natural prototypes and structural analogues.

Book Growth and Characterization of High Performance Photorefractive BaTiO3 Crystals

Download or read book Growth and Characterization of High Performance Photorefractive BaTiO3 Crystals written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-08 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barium titanate has been used for many nonlinear optical applications primarily because it has high grain and high self-pumped phase conjugate reflectivities. However, barium titanate has had a relatively slow response time, and thus low sensitivity. Therefore, it has not been suited to real-time operations. In this report we will describe the modifications in crystal growth, doping, reduction, and poling that have produced barium titanate crystals with the fastest photorefractive response time reported to date, approximately 21 microseconds with a beam-coupling gain coefficient of 38.7 cm(exp -1) and the highest sensitivity reported to date of 3.44 cm(exp 3)/kJ. The sensitivity of these barium titanate crystals is comparable to or greater than other photorefractive oxides. We will show, for the first time, beam-coupling in barium titanate at video frame rates. We infer from response time measurements that barium titanate has a phonon limited mobility. Also, photorefractive response time measurements as a function of the crystallographic orientation and grating wave vector for our cobalt-doped oxygen reduced crystals indicate that their faster response time arise because of an increase in the free carrier lifetime. Book The Synthesis and Characterization of a Novel Single Source Beta barium Borate Precursor Barium 18 crown 6 Dimesitylborinate

Download or read book The Synthesis and Characterization of a Novel Single Source Beta barium Borate Precursor Barium 18 crown 6 Dimesitylborinate written by Travis M. Scott and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nonlinear optical materials are a rapidly growing market and are expected to exceed $1.6 billion by 2007. Significant time, energy, and investment have been applied to increasing the efficiency of producing NLO materials. Of these materials beta-barium borate has stood out as an important NLO product. The goal of this research was the development of a novel beta-barium precursor suitable for applications in thin film technology. Special attention was paid towards development of a precursor suitable for metal organic chemical vapor deposition. To that end special attention was paid towards the synthesis of a mononuclear barium compound. The novel BBO precursor obtained was a barium dimesityl borate compound coordinated with 18-crown-6, barium (18-crown-6) dimesitylborinate (BaB2C48O8H68). The apparently water-sensitive precursor has shown conversion to BBO comparable to current industrial processes"--Abstract.

Book GROWTH ASPECTS OF NONLINEAR OPTICAL CRYSTALS AND CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUES

Download or read book GROWTH ASPECTS OF NONLINEAR OPTICAL CRYSTALS AND CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUES written by Dr. Helen Merina Albert and published by Insta Publishing. This book was released on with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: : This book is based on research conducted on the growth and characterization of nonlinear optical crystals. Due to the significance of crystals in contemporary technology, crystal growth has been the focus of extensive research in both solid-state physics and materials science. This book serves as an introduction to the growth phenomena, specifics of growth processes, nonlinear optical phenomena, and characterization methods that are being used for the analysis. The book is divided into three chapters: The first chapter focuses on the experimental techniques of crystal growth. It outlines the several ways that crystals grow based on the phases they go through, such as solid-solid phase transition, liquid-solid phase transformation, and vapour-solid phase transformation. The optimization methods for growing high-quality single crystals are thoroughly presented. The benefits and drawbacks of methods of growth are reviewed. The second chapter explains the theory of nonlinear optical phenomena. The selection criteria for nonlinear optical materials are reviewed. The history of nonlinear optics and the various types of nonlinear optical materials are discussed. The role of amino acids in the formation of nonlinear optical crystals is well explained. The third chapter discusses characterization procedures that are essential in determining the quality of crystals. The several characterization mechanisms including the molecular structure, chemical composition, surface morphology, optical properties, dielectric properties, mechanical behavior, and thermal properties necessary for crystal analysis are described. We hope that this book will be valuable to researchers and students.
