Will you trust in him and become a child of God? Or will you continue on your own path? True freedom is found only in following Jesus. As a disciple your relationship with Jesus should be the top priority in your life. Walking with him should inform and direct every aspect of your life. In his earthly life Jesus modeled communion with God the Father. He walked in intimacy and fellowship with his Father. The primary focus of his life on earth was to accomplish the will of God and this should be our desire as well. There are no shortcuts to a close relationship with God. Time must be devoted to building the relationship, growing in the Word, and living in obedience. Growing Gods Forever Family focuses on how to live this practically.

Book Broken Tools in God s Hands

Download or read book Broken Tools in God s Hands written by Keith Ellerbrock and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I may be forgiven (maybe), but after what I've done, my life is basically over." "I'm damaged goods now. Forgiven? Sure. Able to be used? Maybe for little stuff (maybe), but never again for anything important." Ever thought things like that? Join the club! They're lies, though - lies we often speak to ourselves. Broken Tools In God's Hands was written so you can know God's rescuing grace more deeply and be set free to serve Him with new hope and joy in your heart. Do you think God can't use you when you're broken? Then ponder this: The truth is, God can only use you as He desires when you're broken - when you plainly see your sinfulness, your helplessness, your need for the Savior. That's when Jesus can pour out His blood-bought declaration of "not guilty" into your life, declare you to be His perfect tool, and use you for mighty things. Author Keith Ellerbrock invites you to take a close look at the ugly underbelly of some of the biblical heroes of faith so you can see that they were just as messed up by nature as you are, then take a closer look at God's amazing grace toward them to see that since the blood of Jesus was able to forgive and cleanse these flawed and tainted saints, it's more than able to forgive and cleanse you. Just as God gave them second, third, and however many chances, so He gives those clean do-overs to you. And He will use you. You have His Word on it! St. Louis native Keith Ellerbrock has been a pastor in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod for 25 years. He currently serves Trinity Lutheran Church in Bridgeton, Missouri. He's the undeservedly blessed husband of Dawn and father of Erin, Adam, and Daniel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who would have imagined that the hippies, those long-haired, psychedelia-influenced youth of the 1960s, would have initiated a spiritual revolution that has transformed American Christianity? If you are unfamiliar with the 1960s, the counterculture, the hippie movement, and the Jesus People, then this book will transport you to that era and introduce you to the generation and the decade that turned American culture upside down. If you have read other books on the Jesus People, this account will take you by surprise. A refreshingly different narrative that unveils a storyline and characters not commonly known to have been associated with the movement, this book argues that the Jesus People, though often trivialized and stigmatized as a group of lost and vulnerable youth who strayed from the Fundamentalism of their childhood, helped American Christianity negotiate a way forward in a post-1960s culture. It examines the narrative of the Holy Spirit and the phenomenon called Pentecostalism. Although utterly central, the Jesus People's Pentecostalism has never been examined and their story has been omitted from the historiography of Pentecostalism. This account uniquely redresses this omission.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With so much demand on our time, in and outside the home, and with all the different schedules and things to do each day, when do I find time to read the Bible for my daily spiritual nourishment and direction? And, just as important, when do we find time for family Bible study? Now the help so needed is here and nourishes and fills both of these necessary desires at the same time. The Family Bible Study series is designed to help accomplish both these goals together in the same study, in a good, time-efficient manner. In Book One of the series, Family Bible Studies, you will discover the biblical foundation for the family, the rock-bottom structure (design) and groundbreaking steps forward toward building a strong, stable family. All this is done by reading the Bible and discussing it together. Here is what you will see: the Trinity as the model for growing families on Earth; God’s strong design for the family still stands; His guidelines in the Bible help each of us grow together; a Bible study of eight characteristics of God as a beginning model for individual and family development; an inspirational ending on the fulfillment of the greatest commandment. This is first book of the Family Bible Studies series. The second will center on relationships and the levels that exist. Time studying and applying God’s Word brings great rewards—both now and in the days to come (Is. 55:8–11).

Book God s Plan for Nate Nate

Download or read book God s Plan for Nate Nate written by Karen Spicer-Wolven and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-08-24 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story was originally written for Nate-Nate by Mommy K so that he might understand just how much he was wanted and loved from the beginning. It was not meant to be published. I, Mommy K, wrote it solely for him. Only after years have passed did I realize that Nate-Nate's adoption story might also help other adopted children and the parents that had to give them up have an understanding of the difficult decisions that were made on their behalf. So often adopted children, especially those that were in foster care, have assumptions about starting out life as "unwanted" children. In most cases this assumption is so far from the truth. While it is true that immaturity, lack of emotional or financial support, addictions, and family pressures are some of the reasons that parents choose to give up their children for adoption, or are forced to, hardly ever were they not wanted. God's plan was much different than my plan for Nate-Nate. He knew better than I what events would change my plans. He always knew the best family for Nate-Nate. I was a foster parent for this special little boy and for a few other kids along my life's journey. When I chose to adopt, I had no idea that my health would take a sudden turn for the worse but God did. When I first encountered Nate-Nate's forever family, I had no idea that they would become his parents but God did. This story may seem sad at times. Like every truly happy ending, there had to be a journey of the heart. That journey for us was not what we had expected. It was instead the perfect plan, God's plan for Nate-Nate.

Download or read book God s Forever Family written by Larry Eskridge and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2013-05-31 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2014 Christianity Today Book of the Year First Place Winner of the Religion Newswriters Association's Non-fiction Religion Book of the Year The Jesus People movement was a unique combination of the hippie counterculture and evangelical Christianity. It first appeared in the famed "Summer of Love" of 1967, in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district, and spread like wildfire in Southern California and beyond, to cities like Seattle, Atlanta, and Milwaukee. In 1971 the growing movement found its way into the national media spotlight and gained momentum, attracting a huge new following among evangelical church youth, who enthusiastically adopted the Jesus People persona as their own. Within a few years, however, the movement disappeared and was largely forgotten by everyone but those who had filled its ranks. God's Forever Family argues that the Jesus People movement was one of the most important American religious movements of the second half of the 20th-century. Not only do such new and burgeoning evangelical groups as Calvary Chapel and the Vineyard trace back to the Jesus People, but the movement paved the way for the huge Contemporary Christian Music industry and the rise of "Praise Music" in the nation's churches. More significantly, it revolutionized evangelicals' relationship with youth and popular culture. Larry Eskridge makes the case that the Jesus People movement not only helped create a resurgent evangelicalism but must be considered one of the formative powers that shaped American youth in the late 1960s and 1970s.

Book God Gave Rock and Roll to You

Download or read book God Gave Rock and Roll to You written by Leah Payne and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-01-04 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An entertaining history of the soundtrack of American evangelical Christianity Few things frightened conservative white Protestant parents of the 1950s and the 1960s more than thought of their children falling prey to the "menace to Christendom" known as rock and roll. The raucous sounds of Elvis Presley and Little Richard seemed tailor-made to destroy the faith of their young and, in the process, undermine the moral foundations of the United States. Parents and pastors launched a crusade against rock music, but they were fighting an uphill battle. Salvation came in a most unlikely form. Well, maybe not that unlikely--the long hair, the beards, the sandals--but still a far cry from the buttoned-up, conservative Protestantism they were striving to preserve. Yet when a revival swept through counterculture hippie communities of the West Coast in the 1960s and 1970s a new alternative emerged. Known as the Jesus Movement--and its members, more colloquially, as "Jesus freaks"--the revival was short-lived. But by combining the rock and folk music of the counterculture with religious ideas and aims of conservative white evangelicals, Jesus freaks and evangelical media moguls gave birth to an entire genre known as Contemporary Christian Music (CCM). By the 1980s and 1990s, CCM had grown into a massive, multimillion-dollar industry. Contemporary Christian artists were appearing on Top 40 radio, and some, most famously Amy Grant, crossed over into the mainstream. And yet, today, the industry is a shadow of what it once was. In this book, Leah Payne traces the history and trajectory of CCM in America and, in the process, demonstrates how the industry, its artists, and its fans shaped--and continue to shape--conservative, (mostly) white, evangelical Protestantism. For many outside observers, evangelical pop stars, interpretive dancers, puppeteers, mimes, and bodybuilders are silly expressions of kitsch. Yet Payne argues that these cultural products were sources of power, meaning, and political activism. Throughout, she draws on in-depth interviews with CCM journalists, publishers, producers, and artists, as well as archives, sales and marketing data, fan magazines, merchandise--everything that went into making CCM a thriving subculture. Ultimately, Payne argues, CCM spurred evangelical activism in more potent and lasting ways than any particular doctrine, denomination, culture war, or legislative agenda had before.
