Book Group Theory And Hopf Algebras Lectures For Physicists

Download or read book Group Theory And Hopf Algebras Lectures For Physicists written by Aiyalam P Balachandran and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-07-22 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is addressed to graduate students and research workers in theoretical physics who want a thorough introduction to group theory and Hopf algebras. It is suitable for a one-semester course in group theory or a two-semester course which also treats advanced topics. Starting from basic definitions, it goes on to treat both finite and Lie groups as well as Hopf algebras. Because of the diversity in the choice of topics, which does not place undue emphasis on finite or Lie groups, it should be useful to physicists working in many branches.A unique aspect of the book is its treatment of Hopf algebras in a form accessible to physicists. Hopf algebras are generalizations of groups and their concepts are acquiring importance in the treatment of conformal field theories, noncommutative spacetimes, topological quantum computation and other important domains of investigation. But there is a scarcity of treatments of Hopf algebras at a level and in a manner that physicists are comfortable with. This book addresses this need superbly. There are illustrative examples from physics scattered throughout the book and in its set of problems. It also has a good bibliography. These features should enhance its value to readers. The authors are senior physicists with considerable research and teaching experience in diverse aspects of fundamental physics. The book, being the outcome of their combined efforts, stands testament to their knowledge and pedagogical skills.

Book Lectures on Quantum Groups

Download or read book Lectures on Quantum Groups written by Jens Carsten Jantzen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The material is very well motivated ... Of the various monographs available on quantum groups, this one ... seems the most suitable for most mathematicians new to the subject ... will also be appreciated by a lot of those with considerably more experience. --Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society Since its origin, the theory of quantum groups has become one of the most fascinating topics of modern mathematics, with numerous applications to several sometimes rather disparate areas, including low-dimensional topology and mathematical physics. This book is one of the first expositions that is specifically directed to students who have no previous knowledge of the subject. The only prerequisite, in addition to standard linear algebra, is some acquaintance with the classical theory of complex semisimple Lie algebras. Starting with the quantum analog of $\mathfrak{sl}_2$, the author carefully leads the reader through all the details necessary for full understanding of the subject, particularly emphasizing similarities and differences with the classical theory. The final chapters of the book describe the Kashiwara-Lusztig theory of so-called crystal (or canonical) bases in representations of complex semisimple Lie algebras. The choice of the topics and the style of exposition make Jantzen's book an excellent textbook for a one-semester course on quantum groups.

Book Group Theory In Physics A Practitioner s Guide

Download or read book Group Theory In Physics A Practitioner s Guide written by Traubenberg M Rausch De and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-09-19 with total page 760 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the study of symmetry groups in Physics from a practical perspective, i.e. emphasising the explicit methods and algorithms useful for the practitioner and profusely illustrating by examples. The first half reviews the algebraic, geometrical and topological notions underlying the theory of Lie groups, with a review of the representation theory of finite groups. The topic of Lie algebras is revisited from the perspective of realizations, useful for explicit computations within these groups. The second half is devoted to applications in physics, divided into three main parts — the first deals with space-time symmetries, the Wigner method for representations and applications to relativistic wave equations. The study of kinematical algebras and groups illustrates the properties and capabilities of the notions of contractions, central extensions and projective representations. Gauge symmetries and symmetries in Particle Physics are studied in the context of the Standard Model, finishing with a discussion on Grand-Unified Theories.

Book Applications of Group Theory in Physics and Mathematical Physics

Download or read book Applications of Group Theory in Physics and Mathematical Physics written by MoshŽ Flato and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1985-12-31 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past decade has seen a renewal in the close ties between mathematics and physics. The Chicago Summer Seminar on Applications of Group Theory in Physics and Mathematical Physics, held in July, 1982, was organized to bring together a broad spectrum of scientists from theoretical physics, mathematical physics, and various branches of pure and applied mathematics in order to promote interaction and an exchange of ideas and results in areas of common interest. This volume contains the papers submitted by speakers at the Seminar. The reader will find several groups of articles varying from the most abstract aspects of mathematics to a concrete phenomenological description of some models applicable to particle physics. The papers have been divided into four categories corresponding to the principal topics covered at the Seminar. This is only a rough division, and some papers overlap two or more of these categories.

Book Quantum Field Theory III Gauge Theory

Download or read book Quantum Field Theory III Gauge Theory written by Eberhard Zeidler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-17 with total page 1141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this third volume of his modern introduction to quantum field theory, Eberhard Zeidler examines the mathematical and physical aspects of gauge theory as a principle tool for describing the four fundamental forces which act in the universe: gravitative, electromagnetic, weak interaction and strong interaction. Volume III concentrates on the classical aspects of gauge theory, describing the four fundamental forces by the curvature of appropriate fiber bundles. This must be supplemented by the crucial, but elusive quantization procedure. The book is arranged in four sections, devoted to realizing the universal principle force equals curvature: Part I: The Euclidean Manifold as a Paradigm Part II: Ariadne's Thread in Gauge Theory Part III: Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity Part IV: Ariadne's Thread in Cohomology For students of mathematics the book is designed to demonstrate that detailed knowledge of the physical background helps to reveal interesting interrelationships among diverse mathematical topics. Physics students will be exposed to a fairly advanced mathematics, beyond the level covered in the typical physics curriculum. Quantum Field Theory builds a bridge between mathematicians and physicists, based on challenging questions about the fundamental forces in the universe (macrocosmos), and in the world of elementary particles (microcosmos).

Download or read book Quantum Groups written by Ross Street and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-01-18 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algebra has moved well beyond the topics discussed in standard undergraduate texts on 'modern algebra'. Those books typically dealt with algebraic structures such as groups, rings and fields: still very important concepts! However Quantum Groups: A Path to Current Algebra is written for the reader at ease with at least one such structure and keen to learn algebraic concepts and techniques. A key to understanding these new developments is categorical duality. A quantum group is a vector space with structure. Part of the structure is standard: a multiplication making it an 'algebra'. Another part is not in those standard books at all: a comultiplication, which is dual to multiplication in the precise sense of category theory, making it a 'coalgebra'. While coalgebras, bialgebras and Hopf algebras have been around for half a century, the term 'quantum group', along with revolutionary new examples, was launched by Drinfel'd in 1986.
