Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report provides a description of the groundwater resources and relevant hydrogeological information to support the development of a water management plan for the north-west Tasmania. The proposed plan area includes five north-west river catchments (Welcome, Montagu, Duck, Arthur and Black-Detention) and covers an area of approximately 4600km2. The groundwater recharge and complete water balance for the entire proposed north-west plan area have never been previously assessed." --Introduction.

Download or read book Groundwater in the West written by Zachary A. Smith and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Groundwater in the West covers the use, management, laws, and politics of groundwater in the West. The first chapter provides an overview of important groundwater management and policy issues. Each of the subsequent chapters presents a brief description of the water environment in each of the 19 states and the major groundwater regions in the state. These chapters provide a summary of ground water use and consumption by type of consumption, an examination of groundwater problems in the state, and a summary of groundwater law, administration, and regulations. The chapters conclude with a section summarizing groundwater politics (where appropriate) and an evaluation of future potential groundwater management problems. Hydrologists and people involved in groundwater use, control, and management will find the book invaluable.

Book Groundwater Resources Modelling

Download or read book Groundwater Resources Modelling written by M. G. Shepley and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2012 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The UK is a country with over 150 years of widespread exploitation of its principal aquifers for public water supply. Increasing demands, greater awareness of environmental pressures and more exacting legislation has heightened the need for quantitative models to predict the impacts of groundwater use. In the UK this has culminated in a unique national, regulator-led programme for England and Wales to develop conceptual and numerical models of the principal bedrock aquifers. The outcomes of this programme will be of interest to the international hydrogeological community, particularly as international legislation such as the European Water Framework Directive requires management of water issues across administrative boundaries with a varied cast of stakeholders. The collection of papers provides a contrast between practitioner- and research-based approaches to assess and predict the anthropogenic impacts and environmental pressures.

Book Environmental Processes and Management

Download or read book Environmental Processes and Management written by Raj Mohan Singh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-17 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an in-depth, science-based approach to applying key project-management and spatial tools and practices in environmental projects. Providing important data for those considering projects that balance social-economic growth against minimizing its ill-effects on planet Earth, the book discusses various aspects of environmental engineering, as well as formula and analytical approaches required for more informed decision-making. Beginning with a broad overview of the factors and features of environmental processes and management, the book then clearly details the general application of fundamental processes, the characteristics of the different systems in which they occur, and the way in which these factors influence process dynamics, environmental systems, and their possible remedies. While primarily intended for professionals responsible for the management of environmental projects or interested in improving the overall efficiency of such projects, it is also useful for managers in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. Further, it is a valuable resource for students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and an indispensable guide for anyone wanting to develop their skills in modern environmental management and related techniques.

Book Farming Action Catchment Reaction

Download or read book Farming Action Catchment Reaction written by J Williams and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dryland farming is a major export earner for many temperate-zone countries, yet it continues to degrade a country's natural resources. Effects are not restricted to the land - changes in water quality can reduce the potential uses of water and bring about catastrophic changes in both freshwater and coastal ecosystems. Farming Action: Catchment Reaction provides a comprehensive technical overview of the relationships between dryland farming systems and catchment land and water quality in Australia, and integrates it in a whole system framework. It deals with the issues in terms of people, pointers, processes and prediction as it discusses social aspects of developing and implementing research to improve dryland farming systems in catchment management programs, indicators of catchment health, and the processes which determine the impact of the farming action on the catchment response. It concludes by considering the adequacy of our ability to use this process knowledge in models to predict the effect of dryland farming on catchment condition.

Book Groundwater Resources and Salt Water Intrusion in a Changing Environment

Download or read book Groundwater Resources and Salt Water Intrusion in a Changing Environment written by Maurizio Polemio and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue presents the work of 30 scientists from 11 countries. It confirms that the impacts of global change, resulting from both climate change and increasing anthropogenic pressure, are huge on worldwide coastal areas (and critically so on some islands in the Pacific Ocean), with highly negative effects on coastal groundwater resources, which are widely affected by seawater intrusion. Some improved research methods are proposed in the contributions: using innovative hydrogeological, geophysical, and geochemical monitoring; assessing impacts of the changing environment on the coastal groundwater resources in terms of quantity and quality; and using modelling, especially to improve management approaches. The scientific research needed to face these challenges must continue to be deployed by different approaches based on the monitoring, modelling and management of groundwater resources. Novel and more efficient methods must be developed to keep up with the accelerating pace of global change.

Book Sustainability of Water Resources

Download or read book Sustainability of Water Resources written by Goen Ho and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2004-12-01 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water is essential for all life forms. It is a fundamental resource necessary for socio-economic development and for ecological sustainability. Good quality water is becoming scarce due to population growth and associated industrial development and pollution particularly in towns and cities. It is timely that the sustainability and management of water resources is widely discussed noting that water can be used an unlimited number of times with proper treatment. The papers in Sustainability of Water Resources, were originally presented at a meeting at Murdoch University on 13-14 November 2002, where new and innovative methods of treatment, better understanding and assessment of resources and their supporting ecosystems, and proper management for conservation were explored. The meeting was preceded by a two day workshop on 'Water for Cities' and participants from the workshop from the Asia Pacific and Indian Ocean regions contributed to lively discussion at the conference
