Book Becoming Christian

Download or read book Becoming Christian written by Dennis Austin Britton and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2014-04-03 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Becoming Christian argues that romance narratives of Jews and Muslims converting to Christianity register theological formations of race in post-Reformation England. The medieval motif of infidel conversion came under scrutiny as Protestant theology radically reconfigured how individuals acquire religious identities. Whereas Catholicism had asserted that Christian identity begins with baptism, numerous theologians in the Church of England denied the necessity of baptism and instead treated Christian identity as a racial characteristic passed from parents to their children. The church thereby developed a theology that both transformed a nation into a Christian race and created skepticism about the possibility of conversion. Race became a matter of salvation and damnation. Britton intervenes in critical debates about the intersections of race and religion, as well as in discussions of the social implications of romance. Examining English translations of Calvin, treatises on the sacraments, catechisms, and sermons alongside works by Edmund Spenser, John Harrington, William Shakespeare, John Fletcher, and Phillip Massinger, Becoming Christian demonstrates how a theology of race altered a nation’s imagination and literary landscape.

Much of the drama and discontent that plagues the lives of modern women can be traced directly to a hungry soul. Women often try to satisfy their cravings by shopping, overeating, seeking the attention of men, or having children. What they really hunger for, though, is deep and lasting spiritual fulfillment. In Satisfied...at Last!, author Kay Harms shows women who are tired of looking for soul satisfaction in all the wrong places how to find truth, guidance, and fulfillment by interacting with the Word of God intimately and daily. But, for even the most devout Christians, the Bible can be mystifying. How can an invisible, spirit-God satisfy the deepest cravings of the soul, when He cant be seen, heard, or touched? Through thirty truthful, transparent lessons, Satisfied...at Last! guides the reader through a study of the Scriptures specially designed to address the soul hungers of women. Why settle for unfulfilling junk food when the Word of God can introduce you to the richly satisfying Bread of Life?

So says renowned cookbook author Susan Herrmann Loomis. When the Gauls were racing through lush forests in what is now Brittany, Normandy, and the Loire Valley, hunting wild boar, deer, and rabbit, they’d return to the village, build a fire, and split their prize from barbe a queue (head to tail) for roasting. Today, the French are still great barbecuers, though over the centuries they’ve refined their skills and borrowed methods from other cuisines: the grill from the US, the plancha from Spain, the mechoui from North Africa. Recipes include: Camembert Burgers Steak with Smoky Olives Honey Grilled Pork Chops Grilled Pistachio, Almond, and Honey Stuffed Apricots French Grill features dishes for every occasion using ingredients that any American cook can easily find, tips on how to buy the best ingredients, and French grilling anecdotes throughout.

Book The Exposed Christians

Download or read book The Exposed Christians written by Rosa Davis and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As author of this book, I have noticed a great need for cleanups. This book is about making chores more enjoyable instead of being a hard task with no rewards. We must realize the day and time is now to clean up. Why wait until a hurricane, earthquake, tornado, lightning, or some terrible snow or firestorm, or even a disaster flood that comes and makes cleaning worse? There are other areas that need cleanup, such as credit, friendship, religious membership and acquaintances. Also social lives are in a cleanup mode. Let's begin cleanups with a smile from the heart. This book is about helping free us from the slavery of cleaning up, to find joy in cleaning up our interests, belongings and our health. Why should we make a lot of work for someone else to do for us what we don't want or like to do? Christians should make a difference, wherever we go. The Lord is the light of our life and we are the ones to make or let our light shine in these difficult times, because cleanup is needed each day. Our Christian duty is to teach and do, to help avoid a lot of unhappiness. Our minds need to be clear to think on good things. Remember, only Jesus can clean our souls.
