Book Modern Fantasies on Love versus Classical Romances

Download or read book Modern Fantasies on Love versus Classical Romances written by Ljuba Tarvi and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-07-14 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viewed through the lens of physics, love conquers nothing is the conclusion reached when love patterns in romances are viewed through laws of quantum physics. In this book, based on the metaphor “Love/Text is Energy,” love in fiction is interpreted in the same way as subatomic particles are studied in quantum mechanics — by investigating traces of their clashes in giant colliders, i.e., as Marx’s ‘converted forms’ of the protagonists’ conscious and unconscious decisions and actions. The book introduces the Token Valence Method, which assumes that a word, like an elementary particle, is neither a particle nor a wave but rather a quantum state. The TVM has revealed three models of love patterns in fiction: adaptation (21st century), alienation (20th century), and imagination (1991-2021).

Beautiful Freja visits Christiania in central Copenhagen and falls in love with Hans Christian O’Reilly Andersen. But she learns that Hans already has three lovers, so Freja explores the hippie Freetown, and greets his lovers - eco-friendly vegetarian beauties. Freja also meets his young friends from the Christiania circus, who survive by squatting and dumpster diving; living from what they find in skips and garbage cast offs. Hans and Freja team up with the circus jesters to battle the misogynist tyrant, who resides in hedonistic opulence. However, the youngsters will not fight him with guns, but with bicycles, clowns and jugglers. Book Progress in Colour Studies Language and culture

Download or read book Progress in Colour Studies Language and culture written by Carole Patricia Biggam and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Along with its companion volume, this book offers a fascinating glimpse into the current avenues of research into colour, a phenomenon which daily affects all our lives in often surprising ways. The majority of the papers originated in a 2004 conference entitled 'Progress in Colour Studies' which was held in the University of Glasgow, U.K. The contributions to this first volume, which is principally linguistic and anthropological in content, and to its companion on the psychological aspects of colour, present either summaries of state-of-the-art colour research in various disciplines, or in-depth accounts of certain aspects of such work. This volume includes approaches such as Natural Semantic Metalanguage, social network analysis, quantitative analysis, type modification, vantage theory, the centrality of social norms of inference, place-names and heraldry. In the process, new insights are offered into the following languages: English, French, Portuguese, Sorbian, Burarra, Cape Breton Gaelic, Tzotzil, and others.

Book The Rise and Fall of the American Whig Party

Download or read book The Rise and Fall of the American Whig Party written by Michael F. Holt and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1999-06-17 with total page 1297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here, Michael F. Holt gives us the only comprehensive history of the Whigs ever written. He offers a panoramic account of the tumultuous antebellum period, a time when a flurry of parties and larger-than-life politicians--Andrew Jackson, John C. Calhoun, Martin Van Buren, and Henry Clay--struggled for control as the U.S. inched towards secession. It was an era when Americans were passionately involved in politics, when local concerns drove national policy, and when momentous political events--like the Annexation of Texas and the Kansas-Nebraska Act--rocked the country. Amid this contentious political activity, the Whig Party continuously strove to unite North and South, emerging as the nation's last great hope to prevent secession.

Book Feminist Conversations

Download or read book Feminist Conversations written by Christina Zwarg and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-05-31 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a new account of the relationship between Margaret Fuller and Ralph Waldo Emerson, Christina Zwarg recreates a feminist conversation that has gone unheard. In Zwarg's view, the intimate, yet restrained, letters between the two writers are most significant in confronting the challenges posed by gender and desire. Focusing on their exploration of Charles Fourier's utopianism and particularly his concept of "passionate attraction," Zwarg offers the only detailed reading of Emerson's letters to Fuller.
