Book Air Pollution Abatement Through Trees Green Belt Development

Download or read book Air Pollution Abatement Through Trees Green Belt Development written by Kundan Burnwal and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Man has been tampering with his environment right from his earliest dawn on this earth. But only in the twentieth century, have the mounting pressures of population and technology raised the question of man's very survival. Most of the human activities generate pollution of one or other types and of different magnitudes, to which all the organisms are exposed. Green belts are thought to be effective in such scenarios, where green plants form a surface capable of absorbing pollutants and forming sinks for pollutants. Leaves with their vast area in a tree crown, absorbs pollutants on their surface, thus effectively reduce their concentrations in the ambient air. Scattering a few known sensitive plants, (including selectively sensitive species) within a green belt however, do carry out an important function of indicating the presence of pollutants, which the tolerants would not indicate.

Book Environmental Stress Indication Mitigation and Eco conservation

Download or read book Environmental Stress Indication Mitigation and Eco conservation written by Mohammad Yunus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present scenario, stresses induced due to global environmental change have indeed become a focal point of researches and study programmes worldwide. Stress caused to plant life has an important consequence to both, vegetation as such and all other global cycles which sustain this `living earth'. Unlike other already existing works this volume elucidates the plant-pollutant relationship in a manner that defines not only the drastic effects of pollutants on plants but concomitantly highlights the hitherto less focused areas namely phytoindication, phytoremediation and stress tolerant bioaesthetic development, thus concentrating more on plant than pollutant. The book would help understand the magnitude of environmental stress in the coming years and may play a formative role in defining future research and policy areas along with providing impetus to development of newer eco-technologies. The book shall interest both students and researchers of environmental sciences, ecology, forestry and related disciplines as well as persons and organisations engaged in environmental management and eco-conservation.

Book Sustainable Agriculture in the Era of Climate Change

Download or read book Sustainable Agriculture in the Era of Climate Change written by Rajib Roychowdhury and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-06 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under ongoing climate changes, natural and cultivated habitats of major crops are being continuously disturbed. Such conditions impose and exacerbate abiotic and biotic stressors. Drought, salinity, flood, cold, heat, heavy metals, metalloids, oxidants, irradiation, etc. are important abiotic stressors, while diseases and infections caused by plant pathogens, such as fungal agents, bacteria and viruses, are major biotic stresses. In many instances, stresses have become the major limiting factor for agricultural productivity and exert detrimental role on growth and yield of the crops. To help feed an ever increasing world population and to ensure global food security, concerted efforts from scientists and researchers have identified strategies to manage and mitigate the impacts of climate-induced stresses. This book, summarizing their findings, is aimed at crop improvement beyond such kind of barriers, by agronomic practices (genetics, breeding, phenotyping, etc.) and biotechnological applications, including molecular markers, QTL mapping, genetic engineering, transgenesis, tissue culture, various 'omics' technologies and gene editing. It will cover a wide range of topics under environmental challenges, agronomy and agriculture processes, and biotechnological approaches. Additionally, fundamental mechanisms and applied information on stress responses and tolerance will be discussed. This book highlights problems and offers proper solutions for crop stress management with recent information and up-to-date citations. We believe this book is suitable for scientists, researchers and students working in the fields of agriculture, plant science, environmental biology and biotechnology.
