Book excerpt: When Kestrel first joined the crew of the Dreamkeeper—a ferryboat servicing two small jungle villages on the Gecko River—he was only eight years old. Five years later, he's become a strong young man and his three crewmates have become his family. He looks up to them all: Seth, his guardian and captain, who has always been like a big brother to him; First Mate Thorn, an old sailor who has spent the better part of his life on the Dreamkeeper; and carpenter/cook Caarn, nicknamed Cleaver, a powerfully built traveler from the Crocodile Coast with a mysterious past. Kestrel’s almost idyllic life should have been enough, but some small part of him always wished for adventure. For better or worse, he would soon get his wish, as a new development turns his life upside down, leaving the future of Dreamkeeper and its crew uncertain and starting them on a journey of exploration and discovery. Unexpected dangers, tightly held secrets, and incredible revelations from the past could easily tear the Dreamkeeper and its crew apart before they reach the end of their astounding journey to the Sparkling Sea. Will their friendship—their bonds of chosen family—be enough to see them through? Or will they be forced to continue their travels separately, with no home port in sight? Anything is possible ... on the Dreamkeeper.

This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Methods and Methodologies of Qualitative Family Research can provide you with a strong conceptual framework for undertaking qualitative research. Designed to demonstrate how emerging and established methodologies can advance the understanding of families and direct social change, this book is a major step in assessing the development, progress, and contributions of qualitative inquiry. Packed with useful information and innovative approaches, this volume pulls together a rich and diverse group of essays that teach readers about the complexities and challenges of qualitative research. Most importantly, you’ll learn how new qualitative approaches are grounded in systems thinking, holistic formulations, attention to context, cultural sensitivity, and nonlinear dynamics. The Methods and Methodologies of Qualitative Family Research is distinct from other books of its kind because it acknowledges the agent, or self, in compiling data and reaching conclusions. Moreover, it analyzes how studying the world affects those doing the studying and how those effects, in turn, play a substantial role in interpreting data and forming conclusions. The Methods and Methodologies of Qualitative Family Research introduces three major types of qualitative clinical family research: conversational analysis, recursive frame analysis, and hermeneutic phenomenology. It exposes a wide array of resources for undertaking qualitative inquiry, including data journals, letters, official files, clinical case notes, folk tales, interviews, and field observations. You’ll learn how these resources are invaluable tools for understanding: couples’decisionmaking generative fathering reflexivity the use of historical data to construct composite cases egalitarianism and oppression in marriage perceptions of gender, race, and class among African-American adolescent women successful aging among individuals who require long-term care poverty and access to services A skillful blend of theory and practice, The Methods and Methodologies of Qualitative Family Research offers conceptual schemes, bibliographies, and other useful resources for teaching and conducting qualitative research. It will revolutionize the way you think about qualitative inquiry and your own approaches to qualitative family research. In addition, you’ll come away updated on the current state of qualitative research and with new skills and techniques for tackling your own research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a fateful day in 1889, the Oklahoma land rush begins, and for thousands of settlers the future is up for grabs. One of those people is Creed McReynolds, fresh from the East with a lawyer’s education and a head full of aspirations. The mixed-blood son of a Kiowa mother and a U.S. Cavalry doctor, Creed lands in Guthrie station, the designated Territorial Capital, where he must prove that he is more than the half-blood kid once driven from his own land. In recounting the precipitous rise and catastrophic fall of the jerrybuilt city of Guthrie, author Sheldon Russell immerses us in the lives of Creed and other memorable characters whose ambitions echo the taming of the frontier—and whose fates hold lessons as important today as they were more than a hundred years ago. Among the people McReynolds must contend with is Abaddon Damon. A ruthless newspaper publisher, Abaddon is quick to strike any bargain that will bring him the power he craves, and like many others, Creed McReynolds is swept into his whirlwind of greed and deception. Creed becomes the wealthiest man in the Territory—but at an unbearable cost to himself, the dreams of others, and the dignity of his mother’s people. Dreams to Dust takes readers back to the early days of Oklahoma Territory—a sometimes dangerous place filled with nefarious dealings, where violence lurks behind even casual encounters—to tell the story of frontier men and women gambling everything to find their fortune on the windswept southern plains.

Book Somniloquarry Dreams Drawings

Download or read book Somniloquarry Dreams Drawings written by Kevin Millsap and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As might be expected, the inspiration for this introduction came to me in a dream. Now, finally, I know the book is complete. It represents a long tenacious labor of many small quiet moments collected into a form that I hope you will enjoy. The text holds all the dreams (::) that I have written down. I began that recording process in the spring of 1981 at the age of 22. They span from my fourth year up to my forty-fifth, 1963 to 2004. These are actual nocturnal visions that were given to me in sleep. I have polished on them intensely all spring and feel that they have become a worthy set of image poems. The ink drawings (”) were done while awake. They are grouped to improve the flow of reading. Those sections do mark the moment in time of their actual public showings. Interspersing each of them into its chronological place would not do justice to the hundreds of other things that I have doodled and failed to capture. In total they present the story of a life. The narration and art are only (mostly) from the usually silent unconscious. Mundane events and needs have caused large gaps in the time-line. This work can be seen as a true novel or as an odd autobiography. Each entry is a crumb from my dreaming mind. I welcome you to the feast.
