Book Great Commission Classic Reprint

Download or read book Great Commission Classic Reprint written by E. A. Kilbourne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Great Commission Individual responsibility cannot be shifted upon the shoulders Of some unreliable leader, for the command GO ye, was given to individual disciples, and every man must answer for himself. It is human to Shirk responsibility, and to drift into a lethargy concerning the unevangelized millions; arguing with ones' self that others are better fitted, others are especially called etc., etc. But His GO ye was not addressed to others Ye are the one He is speaking to to-day. Others have disobeyed, and the judgment day will reveal the awful consequences. What is important for us to understand is, that this generation of heathen will face this generation of disciples on that great day and while we will not be responsible for those Of any previous generations, who died without the knowledge of salvation, it is certain that face to face we shall be brought at the judgment, with those neglected ones Of our own generation. We must be sure that our skirts are clear Of their blood, beloved; and certain it is that there will have to be a great awakening in the church and a tremendous realization of the responsibilities, before the black wings Of ih difierence will be raised from Off a great multitude who call themselves followers of Jesus. Each generation of disciples has a debt to pay to its generation Of unsaved people of whatever nation or color, and while failure to accomplish its mission has marked each successive generation since the days of the early church, our individual responsibility has not lessened in the slightest degree, for the Great Commission has not been withdrawn or cancelled. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Great Commission Mr. Stewart has given us a living book. He writes with a stylus of steel. Several illuminating volumes have come from that pen during the past few years, but none has gripped the vital principles of evangel ism like this one. To write a few lines of introduction to these burning chapters is a privilege which I prize. This question of evangelism is ablaze. Ministers are preaching about it, editors are writing about it, conventions and con vocations are discussing it. The Church is seeking to ascertain its duty concerning it, and the desire to know the best methods of reaching the unsaved is widespread and eager. Book The Rise and Fall of the High Commission Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Rise and Fall of the High Commission Classic Reprint written by Roland G. Usher and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Rise and Fall of the High Commission The judicial and administrative history of an ecclesiastical court abolished nearly three hundred years ago would seem, to most readers, a subject too technical and too remote from the great issues, whose breadth gives to institutional history its vitality and permanent interest, to make the results attained of value to any but a few specialists. Yet the intimate connexion of the High Commission's history with the growth of the nonconformists, with their struggle to find a place in the English Church, and with their determination to leave it; the important part in the history of the institution played by Thomas Cromwell, Richard Bancroft, Sir Edward Coke, William Laud, and other notable men of the period; the insistence of the Puritans and lawyers in 1640 that the illegality of the Commission, as well as its brutality, was one of the chief causes of the Revolution of 1640;the vital importance of a knowledge of the controversy between the common lawyers and the High Commissioners to a proper understanding of the development and meaning of the constitutional issues so prominent during the Stuart period, - all impart a significant and broad interest to the study of the Commissions history, and make any sound conclusions about it of real value to the general student and even to the casual reader of English history. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Great Commission Twelve Addressed on the Ordinal The Great Ecclesiastical Movement of 1833, while produced an almost immediate effect upon the Public Worship of the Church, and quickened into activity her Sacramental Systems, was slow to bring about any material improvement in the observance of the Ember Seasons and the mode of conducting Ordinates. Probably the first start was made by the foundation of Technological Colleges as Chichester and Wells. At the latter especially, under the fostering care of its first principal, Mr. Pinder, men were indoctrinated with juster views of the responsibility of the ministerial Life, and taught to realize the imperative necessity of a course of special preparatory discipline and devotional exercise before undertaking of the office. Book excerpt: Many churches in America today want to be powerful, relevant, and influential in personal and social transformation. But whose kingdom are we building? God's? Or our own? A plethora of programs for outreach, discipleship, and spiritual disciplines are available at any bookstore and on countless websites. Yet what we need most is a renewed understanding of and commitment to the Great Commission. We assume that we already know the nature of this commission and the appropriate methods of carrying it out. But Michael Horton contends that it too often becomes our mission instead of God's. At a time when churches are zealously engaged in writing up mission statements and strategic plans, he argues that we must ask ourselves anew whether we are ambassadors, following the script we've been given, or building our own kingdoms with our own blueprint. Pastors, church leaders, and readers of Horton's Christless Christianity and The Gospel-Driven Life will value this frank and hopeful exploration of the Great Commission as a call to understanding and good practice.

Book Every Creature Classic Reprint

Download or read book Every Creature Classic Reprint written by M. T. Lamb and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-19 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Every Creature The aim of this book is to awaken in the mind of the reader the consciousness that he is called personally to attempt the evangelization of men through his own personal contact and influence. It lays upon the individual himself what he has laid upon the ministry and the church as a whole, the obligation to have the one near him know of Christ. Generalization, and not specific, individual work, duty, obligation, characterizes the most of Christian activity. Those who know of that marvelous soul-winner, Uncle John Vassar, and his methods, find in him the exemplification of the truths herein suggested; namely, hand to hand, heart to heart, personal interest and prayer and solicitation. He never lost the one in the many. Compliance with the spirit and suggestions of this book will do three things: 1.Fix individual responsibility. 2. Increase the number of active church-members. 3.Give constant testimony to the power of consecrated, individual, Christian life. Beyond question, many in our churches are without joy and a sense of usefulness because of mistaken notions of service. Let them comply with the suggestions of this book, and church life will take on a new meaning, and they will read anew and aright the "Great Commission." Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Secret of Progress Buckle1 regarded it as clear that militarism and high intellectual development were not compatible: till recently, many people were prepared to believe that warfare was alien to the interest of civilised peoples and could only occur among half civilised or backward races. But this war has shown that these hopes were vain, and that the last result of civilisation was not to render war impossible, but to give the means of carrying it out on a vastly extended scale. The increase of knowledge and of power over nature, and the sense of the benefits of intercourse and inter-communication have not sufficed to give us any immunity from war.
