Book excerpt: Gain a biblical understanding of grace to discover the true freedom of living obediently. “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound!” we sing… “For by grace you have been saved by faith!” we recite… “We live under grace!” we preach… But do we really understand grace? Grace has become a part of the basic vocabulary of every Christian. Unfortunately, many believers are abusing God’s amazing gift of grace. They have perverted God’s undeserved gift of forgiveness, making it a license for immorality, self-indulgence, and minimal involvement in God’s kingdom. In the process they are robbing themselves of the joy that comes from obedience to God. In this provocative book, pastor and author Dr. Robert Jeffress challenges you to gain a biblical understanding of grace, and reveals how “good grace” can protect your marriage, church, and relationships from confusion and even abuse. Start experiencing the true freedom of living obediently in God’s good grace. Discover Grace Gone Wild!

Book Messy Grace

    Book Details:
  • Author : Caleb Kaltenbach
  • Publisher : WaterBrook
  • Release : 2015-10-20
  • ISBN : 1601427379
  • Pages : 226 pages

Download or read book Messy Grace written by Caleb Kaltenbach and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes, grace gets messy. Caleb Kaltenbach was raised by LGBT parents, marched in gay pride parades as a youngster, and experienced firsthand the hatred and bitterness of some Christians toward his family. But then Caleb surprised everyone, including himself, by becoming a Christian…and a pastor. Very few issues in Christianity are as divisive as the acceptance of the LGBT community in the church. As a pastor and as a person with beloved family members living a gay lifestyle, Caleb had to face this issue with courage and grace. Messy Grace shows us that Jesus’s command to “love your neighbor as yourself” doesn’t have an exception clause for a gay “neighbor”—or for that matter, any other “neighbor” we might find it hard to relate to. Jesus was able to love these people and yet still hold on to his beliefs. So can you. Even when it’s messy. “Messy Grace is an important contribution to the conversation about sexual identity for churches and leaders. Caleb's story is surprising and unique, and he weaves it together compellingly. He states his views clearly, leaves room for disagreement, and champions love no matter where you are in this conversation.” —Jud Wilhite, Sr. Pastor, Central Christian Church

Book excerpt: A counselor offers Biblical-based, step-by-step solutions to the twelve topics that challenge women the most in their lives. Women are warriors. They fight for their families, their friends, and their faith, but they often lay down their gloves when it comes to caring for themselves. Their opponent comes to “steal, kill, and destroy.” He throws every possible punch to knock them down for the count, but the truth is, victory has been promised when these women find the GUTS to enter the ring and the GRACE to endure the fight. Counselor, speaker, television host, and award-winning author Shannon Perry asked thousands of women at her nationwide conferences, “What areas of life do you struggle with the most?” In Grace and Guts, Shannon directly addresses these twelve core topics women identified as their most difficult challenges in life. Offering Biblical guidance along with step-by-step solutions and her trademark humor, Shannon helps women find the courage to strap on their gloves and deliver the knock-out punch to their emotional and spiritual battles, then move fearlessly into the unique plans and purpose God has designed just for them. Praise for Grace and Guts “Shannon’s insight into the needs of women is a remarkable testament to how much we all struggle with the same things. Shannon helps us see that in the end, God has answers for all our difficulties.”—Rene Gutteridge, author and screenwriter “For every woman who has experienced betrayal, loneliness, uncertainty, anger or Satan's defeat and desires a better way, this book is for you!”—Cheryl Roland, Women’s Director, NE Indiana District Church of the Nazarene

Book excerpt: The Adams Woman is a treasure trove of spiritual insight and information on the universal ideas of manhood and womanhood. Being among books that include a narrative chronicling and interpreting the sacrament of marriage, this book expands knowledge of the diversity of social and theological trajectories that constitute the tradition of Christianity. Here, Y. C. White introduces theologians, clergy, and general readers to metaphorical or literal and phenomenal or noumenal triumphs and travesties of Gods relationship to man and woman. In addition to the theoretical, White includes the experiential in which she articulates how a man that she knew and called Adam revealed knowledge to her that liberated her consciousness to a nobler dimension. The Adams Woman provides a foundation and focal point that define a synthesis of manhood and womanhood into godhood, thereby forming a basis for the divine sacrament of marriage. ~Dr. Nathanael Pollard, Jr.

While Hollywood made the bridges famous, there are many more stories to share, thanks to Madison County's rich history and vibrant culture. These stories include unforgettable people who shaped America--the men and women of the Underground Railroad in Madison County; renowned scientist George Washington Carver; and social reformer Susan B. Anthony, who advocated for women's voting rights from the county courthouse in 1875. Madison County natives have also made their mark on the world. Marion Morrison, who became the movie star John Wayne, was born in Winterset in 1907. During World War II, Winterset native George Stout protected priceless works of art from being looted and destroyed by the Nazis. A visionary, steadfast spirit continues to thrive in Madison County, where time-honored values of faith, family, and friendship endure. Growing from its strong agricultural heritage, Madison County embodies modern Iowa, where charming small towns, family farms, thriving businesses, and innovative people reflect the best of the Midwest.

In 1979, when Lilly applied for her dream job at the Goodyear tire factory, she got the job. She was one of the first women hired at the management level. Nineteen years after her first day at Goodyear, Lilly received an anonymous note revealing that she was making thousands less per year than the men in her position. When she filed a sex-discrimination case against Goodyear, Lilly won--and then heartbreakingly lost on appeal. Over the next eight years, her case made it all the way to the Supreme Court, where she lost again. But Lilly continuted to fight, becoming the namesake of President Barack Obama's first official piece of legislation. Both a deeply inspiring memoir and a powerful call to arms, Grace and Grit is the story of a true American icon.

Book The Blessed God

    Book Details:
  • Author : Daniel Burgess
  • Publisher : Puritan Publications
  • Release : 2021-02-11
  • ISBN : 1626633924
  • Pages : 73 pages

Download or read book The Blessed God written by Daniel Burgess and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2021-02-11 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To intimately know God is the substance of this work by Burgess. It is not only to know God as God has revealed his essence, but Burgess, as all good, practical preachers do, presses the reader to then take what they learn about God, and see how it necessarily links to practical truths, such as those necessary for salvation; to know God and to be saved by Jesus Christ. Burgess covers three important questions. Question 1: What conceptions should we have of the blessed God? Question 2: What are those truths of the knowledge of God which appear indispensably necessary and spiritually desirable to our salvation? Question 3: What is that change brought about in a man by God’s holy Word and Spirit, before he can safely conclude himself to be passed from death to life? These are, most assuredly, three of the most important questions that can be drawn from Scripture and applied to the life of any fallen son of Adam. In showing these as utterly important as they refer to eternal realities, Burgess not only explains who God is, but also the work that God has done in Jesus Christ who is the perfect God and perfect man in one person to overcome the horrible effects of a fallen world. To know salvation, is to know, first, the blessed God, and then what this God does in and through his Christ to redeem sinners. He will explain Jesus as the great Prophet, Priest and King in both his states of humiliation and exaltation; that in Christ’s humiliation he was made under the law, obeying the precepts, and suffering its curse. And in his exaltation, in rising from the dead as he did, ascending into heaven, and having all power in heaven and earth given him, he is made higher than any mere creature could possibly be exalted to. In this Christ is able to save to the uttermost and willing to save even the chief of sinners, and he welcomes all that penitently come to him for salvation. To hold steadfastly to the knowledge of God and of his salvation, is indispensably necessary to our eternal salvation, the glorification of the Christ, and honor we owe to the blessed God. This blessed God, then, will make us happy by these truths, and eternally blessed by them in the power of his Holy Spirit; for these show God’s loveliness and blessedness to all that hear his voice.
