Book Trace Metal Analysis and Speciation

Download or read book Trace Metal Analysis and Speciation written by I.S. Krull and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-10-08 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this volume is to describe the most recent advances in areas of analytical chemistry that relate to the trace determination of metals and inorganics, as well as their distribution and forms (species) present, sample dependent. Analytical approaches are described that encompass a number of separation methods, such as gas and high performance liquid chromatography, interfaced with selective and sensitive detection methods that become unique for metal species/forms present in various samples. Hyphenated techniques are emphasized, such as interfacing HPLC with plasma induced emission spectroscopy, electrochemistry, post-column reaction chemistry, etc. Each chapter describes the latest instrumental and methodology advances that utilize some form of chromatography together with element-specific detection or mass spectrometry to provide absolute identification of the specific species of a metal present in various samples. The book will be of value to those concerned with the determination of trace levels of individual metal species present or suspected present in any given sample and to those involved in trace metal toxicology, metabolism of metal-containing drugs or chemicals, environmental exposures to metals and chemical speciation of real world samples. Government regulatory laboratories striving to detect and determine absolute levels of a metal species in any regulated sample will be interested in this volume, as will academic institutes involved in environmental toxicology, environmental chemistry, metal-DNA/protein interactions and researchers working with metal species.

Book CRC Handbook of Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy

Download or read book CRC Handbook of Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy written by Asha Varma and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FAAS), which has gained worldwide acceptance as an analytical technique. FAAS offers 100-1000 times better determination and detection limits than other techniques for a majority of the elements. This technique requires a small sample size, and demands less sample-preparation time than others. The handbook is a collection of thousands of references for detection and determination of various elements in agricultural products, biological and clinical samples, and metallurgical and electronic materials. Each chapter is devoted to an element or a similar group of elements. Included are instrumental setup parameters, references, and author and subject indexes. Also presented are detailed appendixes covering glossary, list of manufacturers of spectrophotometers and its accessories, list of chemical suppliers, and list of reviews and abstracts. The handbook covers topics such as heavy metals, clinical products, and trace metal analysis. This desk-top reference is meant for chemists who handle day-to-day analysis problems in laboratories in government, clinical, industrial and academic settings. It is invaluable for those involved in research in environmental science, analytical chemistry, clinical chemistry and forensic science.

Book The Importance of Chemical Speciation in Environmental Processes

Download or read book The Importance of Chemical Speciation in Environmental Processes written by M. Bernhard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 758 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Report, the editors replaced the term "speciation" wherever it occurred by "identification and quantification," or "description of abundance," or "reactivity," or "transformation" of a chemical species, according to whichever one of the four meanings the author had evidently meant to convey. In line with the Dahlem Workshop Model, this Report comprises the background papers written in advance of the meeting on the current status of problems in environmental research and on advanced analytical tech niques for the identification and quantification of chemical species, as well as the group reports summarizing the results of the discussions held during the meeting. Each group report was prepared during the meeting by one "rapporteur" with the help of members of that group and finalized by the rapporteur (listed as the first author of the group report) after the meeting, taking into account both verbal comments made during the presentation of the reports in the plenary session at the end of the workshop and written comments received afterwards.

Book Environmental Analysis

Download or read book Environmental Analysis written by Galen Ewing and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental Analysis contains the papers presented at the Third Annual Meeting of the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, November 15-18, 1976. A large number of papers were devoted to solving environmental problems. Some consisted of reviews of the state of the art with respect to specific techniques, while others represented the results of applying such techniques to particular situations. The book contains 23 papers that cover topics such as the contribution of atmospheric precipitation to the material balance of Lakes Huron and Superior; an improved method for the determination of adenosine triphosphate; and the use of a flame resonance spectrometer to analyze a range of environmental samples. Other studies include the recovery and identification of phenolic compounds from natural waters in and around petroleum industries; methods for determining of lead pollutants in air; a method for colorimetric analysis of ammonia in water; and the application of micro-Raman spectroscopy to the chemical characterization of single particles in air particulate dusts.

Download or read book Specimen Banking written by M. Rossbach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: M.J. Schwuger The Environmental Specimen Bank is a repository of representative environ mental specimens for safe long-term storage over decades and centuries without any chemical change in the constituents. It represents the modern form of a systematically designed collection which will permit comparative analyses and evaluations of chemicals in the future. The aims are: - the determination of selected chemical compounds at the time of storage, - comparative investigations with new methods for chemicals which, at the time of storage, could not be determined or were not recognized as important, - observation of trends in the environment using authentic material from the past and - documentation of long-term changes. Environmental specimen banking is thus suitable for identifying environmental changes and initiating necessary measures of remediation. It may be used to identify problems, study correlations between cause and effect and determine the effectiveness of legislative measures as well as to recommend the activities required. This is not only ecologically important, but also relevant for man, since he is the last member in the food chain and is therefore affected by all compartments of the environment. For this reason, two banking systems were established in Germany, one for environmental specimens (Jiilich), and the other for human specimens (Miinster).
