Download or read book Introducing Economics written by David Orrell and published by Icon Books Ltd. This book was released on 2014-06-05 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comic-book introduction to economics from David Orrell, the author of Economyths: 11 Ways Economics Gets it Wrong. With illustrations from Borin Van Loon. Part of the internationally-recognised Introducing Graphic Guide series. Today, it seems, all things are measured by economists. The so-called 'dismal science' has never been more popular - or, given its failure to predict or prevent the recent financial crisis, more controversial. But what are the findings of economics? Is it really a science? And how can it help our lives? Introducing Economics traces the history of the subject from the ancient Greeks to the present day. Orrell and Van Loon bring to life the contributions of great economists - such as Adam Smith, Karl Marx, John Maynard Keynes and Milton Friedman - and delve into ideas from new areas such as ecological and complexity economics that are revolutionizing the field.

Download or read book TikZ Cookbook for Diagram in Economics written by Chiu Yu Ko and published by Chiu Yu Ko. This book was released on with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economists present their arguments in three different types of arguments: verbal, graphical, and mathematical. If you flip over introductory economic textbooks, you will notice that analysis is usually done based on verbal argument and diagrams. Even for intermediate and advanced textbooks, you will notice that the difference is the mathematical argument -- diagrams are still useful. This is also true for academic research. However, drawing a nice diagram is not easy. Standard software is not good for drawing economic diagrams. Either it is too simple or it is too professional. One nice drawing software is the TikZ package in LaTeX . However, it is a drawing programming so that there is a steep learning curve. This is the reason that I write this book.

Download or read book An Introduction to Geographical Economics written by Steven Brakman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-12-06 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for a better understanding of the role location plays in economic life was first and most famously made explicit by Bertil Ohlin in 1933. However it is only recently, with the development of computer packages able to handle complex systems, as well as advances in economic theory (in particular an increased understanding of returns to scale and imperfect competition), that Ohlin s vision has been met and a framework developed which explains the distribution of economic activity across space. This book is an integrated, non-mathematical, first-principles textbook presenting geographical economics to advanced students. Never avoiding advanced concepts, its emphasis is on examples, diagrams, and empirical evidence, making it the ideal starting point prior to monographic and journal material. Contains copious computer simulation exercises, available in book and electronic format to encourage learning and understanding through application. Uses case study material from North America, Europe, Africa and Australasia.

Download or read book An Integrated Policy Framework IPF Diagram for International Economics written by Mr. Suman S Basu and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2024-02-23 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mundell-Fleming IS-LM approach has guided generations of economists over the past 60 years. But countries have experienced new problems, the international finance literature has advanced, and the composition of the global economy has changed, so the scene is set for an updated approach. We propose an Integrated Policy Framework (IPF) diagram to analyze the use of multiple policy tools as a function of shocks and country characteristics. The underlying model features dominant currency pricing, shallow foreign exchange (FX) markets, and occasionally-binding external and domestic borrowing constraints. Our diagram includes the use of monetary policy, FX intervention, capital controls, and domestic macroprudential measures. It has four panels to explore four key trade-offs related to import consumption, home goods consumption, the housing market, and monetary policy. Our extended diagram adds fiscal policy into the mix.
