Book excerpt: Someone asks, "Why do we . . . at Church?" The answer could be . . . "We've always done it that way," "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," or, "We don't need to change things and cause confusion." The answers to the questions reveal the heart of the problem in the modern church. "Spilt Grape Juice" hits many sacred traditions we hold dear about church. For example, parents tell their children, "You are going to wear your best clothes to church." When asked about a Sunday activity with friends from work, many Christians respond, "I'll be in church at that time." Root would ask the piercing question, "What do clothes and being in church have to do with worship?" Look again at worship, and the Sunday experience may take on new meaning.

Book excerpt: Mama of ten Abbie Halberstadt helps women humbly and gracefully rise to the high calling of motherhood without settling for mediocrity or losing their minds in the process. Motherhood is a challenge. Unfortunately, our worldly culture offers moms little in the way of real help. Mamas only connect to celebrate surviving another day and to share in their misery rather than rejoice in what God has done and to build each other up in hard times. There has a be a better way, a biblical way, for mamas to grow and thrive. As a daughter of Christ, you have been called to be more than an average mama. Attaining excellence doesn’t have to be unsettling but it will take committed focus and a desire to parent well according to God’s grace and for His glory. M is for Mama offers advice, encouragement, and scripturally sound strategies seasoned with a little bit of humor to help you embrace the challenge of biblical motherhood and raise your children with love and wisdom. Mama, you are worthy of the awesome responsibility God has given you. Now it’s time to start believing you can live up to it.

Book Unfermented Grape Juice

Download or read book Unfermented Grape Juice written by Charles Dearing and published by . This book was released on 1919 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "During the last few years there has been a marked increase in interest in fruit juices. No class of culinary products made from fruit can be so cheaply and easily prepared. Moreover, no fruit products are more valuable for varying the home menu, as the juices can be used in the preparation of a great variety of beverages and deserts. In the United States many grapes go unused which might readily be conserved in the home as unfermented juice. Almost every family could afford, if need be, to purchase a bushel or two of grapes. This would be sufficient to make a supply of grape juice to meet the family's demand on special occasions, while the pomace can be used in making many other home products, such as jellies, paste, sauce, catsup, and vinegar. Where there is an abundant supply of fruit, it is nothing less than negligence not to prepare enough grape juice to allow it to be served abundantly during the hot weather. It should be remembered that grape juice requires no sugar when made from the most suitable cultivated vanities and only very little when wild grapes are used. This bulletin is intended solely as a manual for the home preparation of unfermented juice." -- p. [2]
