This book was released on 1994 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book provides a detailed technological and typological discussion and interpretation of the Late Paleoindian lithic technology of the Cummins Site Complex of Lake Minong, Thunder Bay, Ontario. The author presents regional comparisons of the Cummins assemblages with other pertinent Late Paleoindian lithic assemblages to evaluate the utility of the "Lakehead Paleoindian Complex" as a useful analytical and interpretive construct. Significant data on Paleoindian and early Archaic quarrying activity and reduction strategies form a key part of the interpretations of the Cummins site. The presence and documentation of these activities in a Late Paleoindian context represents a significant contribution to a little known aspect of behaviors associated with lithic technology of this time period."--Abstract of review by John E. Download or read book Taphonomy and Archaeology in the Upper Pleistocene of the Northern Yukon Territory written by Richard E. Morlan and published by University of Ottawa Press. This book was released on 1980-01-01 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of taphonomy has been borrowed from paleontology and applied to the analysis of vertebrate fossils from the Old Crow region of the northern Yukon Territory. By means of this approach, archaeologically significant specimens have been isolated from the larger suite of materials which can be explained entirely in terms of natural processes. The analysis indicates that human occupation began in eastern Beringia more than 50,000 years ago and probably was continuous from that time onward, but primary archaeological deposits will be needed to clarify the historical and paleo-environmental significance of these finds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study summarizes archaeological excavations in the DeBlicquy site, Bathurst Island, Northwest Territories and the resulting data gathered in July 1961 of a typical Thule culture winter village of the Canadian High Arctic. Stylistic analysis suggests that the site was occupied during middle Thule times and can probably be dated between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries A.D.

Download or read book Hunters at the Margin written by John Sandlos and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hunters at the Margin examines the conflict in the Northwest Territories between Native hunters and conservationists over three big game species: the wood bison, the muskox, and the caribou. John Sandlos argues that the introduction of game regulations, national parks, and game sanctuaries was central to the assertion of state authority over the traditional hunting cultures of the Dene and Inuit. His archival research undermines the assumption that conservationists were motivated solely by enlightened preservationism, revealing instead that commercial interests were integral to wildlife management in Canada.
