Book Granny Smith s Sudoku Solver

Download or read book Granny Smith s Sudoku Solver written by Granny Smith and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-08 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SOLVE MORE PUZZLES! HAVE MORE FUN! Why would a white-haired grandmother decide to write a "how-to" Sudoku book? Clearly, one reason is because she is very good at solving Sudoku puzzles. Another good reason is that she also knows how to teach. In this book she discloses her three-step Sudoku solving system in an easy-to-read-and-learn-from manner. In her three steps there are none of the strange-named techniques that are commonly used in solving Sudoku puzzles. Instead she leads you slowly and carefully through seven easily understood techniques. She believes that, like a good crossword puzzle, most Sudoku puzzles are meant For The average person to solve and not for mathematicians, analysts, computer experts, or geniuses. At the same time, she does require you to work at learning to solve them. "You do have to THINK, darlin'." She expects you to practice the techniques as you go through the steps. Her three-step system does give you a good mental workout. She says that the result of this effort should be an ability to solve almost all the puzzles you find in newspapers, magazines, and Sudoku puzzle books. For those who want to learn a little more she includes a chapter giving hints about three directions they might take. Granny wrote this book for adults like herself who want to stretch their brains, solve more puzzles, and have more fun. However, if you're willing to help them, she says that most 5-6 year-olds should be able to learn Step One, most 9-10 year-olds should be able to learn Steps One and Two, and children over 12 years should be able to learn all three steps. So, sharpen your pencil, get comfy, and let Granny hold your hand as she lovingly guides you into a lifetime of pleasure in the world of Sudoku.

  • Author : Lee Smith
  • Publisher : Penguin

  • ISBN : 1101565616
  • Pages : 247 pages

Download or read book Oral History written by Lee Smith and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2011-12-06 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The best novel so far by a writer whose growth has been steady and sure . . . . [Oral History] tells the story of the Cantrell family and the odd curse that its members believe to have hung over them. It is a tale that begins in the late 19th century with Granny Younger, the midwife, and continues well into the 20th century through several generations of Cantrells; it is also a tale deeply rooted in the folk culture of the Appalachians, a tale that in the best tradition of folklore contains 'story upon story.'" -- The Washington Post Book World "A novel as dark, winding, complicated as the hill country itself. . . You could make comparisons to Faulkner and Carson McCullers, to The Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying, and Wuthering Heights. You could employ all those familiar ringing terms of praise: 'rare,' 'brilliant,' 'unforgettable.' But Lee Smith and Oral History make you wish all those phrases were fresh and new, that all those comparisons had never before been made. For this is a novel deserving of unique praise." -- The Village Voice "Deft and assured . . . She is clearly drunk on the language of Appalachia, on its stories and its people . . . . She is nothing less than masterly." -- The New York Times Book Review

Book Apples of Uncommon Character

Download or read book Apples of Uncommon Character written by Rowan Jacobsen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2014-09-02 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his classic A Geography of Oysters, Rowan Jacobsen forever changed the way America talks about its best bivalve. Now he does the same for our favorite fruit, showing us that there is indeed life beyond Red Delicious-and even Honeycrisp. While supermarkets limit their offerings to a few waxy options, apple trees with lives spanning human generations are producing characterful varieties-and now they are in the midst of a rediscovery. From heirlooms to new designer breeds, a delicious diversity of apples is out there for the eating. Apples have strong personalities, ranging from crabby to wholesome. The Black Oxford apple is actually purple, and looks like a plum. The Knobbed Russet looks like the love child of a toad and a potato. (But don't be fooled by its looks.) The D'Arcy Spice leaves a hint of allspice on the tongue. Cut Hidden Rose open and its inner secret is revealed. With more than 150 art-quality color photographs, Apples of Uncommon Character shows us the fruit in all its glory. Jacobsen collected specimens both common and rare from all over North America, selecting 120 to feature, including the best varieties for eating, baking, and hard-cider making. Each is accompanied by a photograph, history, lore, and a list of characteristics. The book also includes 20 recipes, savory and sweet, resources for buying and growing, and a guide to the best apple festivals. It's a must-have for every foodie.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book that became an instant classic when it first appeared in 1995, Old Southern Apples is an indispensable reference for fruit lovers everywhere, especially those who live in the southern United States. Out of print for several years, this newly revised and expanded edition now features descriptions of some 1,800 apple varieties that either originated in the South or were widely grown there before 1928. Author Lee Calhoun was one of the foremost figures in apple conservation in America. This masterwork reflects his knowledge and personal experience over more than thirty years, as he sought out and grew hundreds of classic apples, including both legendary varieties (like Nickajack and Magnum Bonum) and little-known ones (like Buff and Cullasaga). Representing our common orchard heritage, many of these apples are today at risk of disappearing from our national table. Illustrated with more than 120 color images of classic apples from the National Agricultural Library’s collection of watercolor paintings, Old Southern Apples is a fascinating and beautiful reference and gift book. In addition to A-to-Z descriptions of apple varieties, both extant and extinct, Calhoun provides a brief history of apple culture in the South, and includes practical information on growing apples and on their traditional uses.

Book Hooked

Download or read book Hooked written by Sutton Foster and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the 2-time Tony Award-winner and the star of TV’s Younger, funny and intimate stories and reflections about how crafting has kept her sane while navigating the highs and lows of family, love, and show business (and how it can help you, too). Whether she’s playing an “age-defying” book editor on television or dazzling audiences on the Broadway stage, Sutton Foster manages to make it all look easy. How? Crafting. From the moment she picked up a cross stitch needle to escape the bullying chorus girls in her early performing days, she was hooked. Cross stitching led to crocheting, crocheting led to collages, which led to drawing, and so much more. Channeling her emotions into her creations centered Sutton as she navigated the significant moments in her life and gave her tangible reminders of her experiences. Now, in this charming and poignant collection, Sutton shares those moments, including her fraught relationship with her agoraphobic mother; a painful divorce splashed on the pages of the tabloids; her struggles with fertility; the thrills she found on the stage during hit plays like Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes, and Violet; her breakout TV role in Younger; and the joy of adopting her daughter, Emily. Accompanying the stories, Sutton has included crochet patterns, recipes, and so much more! Witty and poignant, Hooked will leave readers entertained as well as inspire them to pick up their own cross stitch needles and paintbrushes.
