Download or read book Hyperbole and a Half written by Allie Brosh and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller “Funny and smart as hell” (Bill Gates), Allie Brosh’s Hyperbole and a Half showcases her unique voice, leaping wit, and her ability to capture complex emotions with deceptively simple illustrations. FROM THE PUBLISHER: Every time Allie Brosh posts something new on her hugely popular blog Hyperbole and a Half the internet rejoices. This full-color, beautifully illustrated edition features more than fifty percent new content, with ten never-before-seen essays and one wholly revised and expanded piece as well as classics from the website like, “The God of Cake,” “Dogs Don’t Understand Basic Concepts Like Moving,” and her astonishing, “Adventures in Depression,” and “Depression Part Two,” which have been hailed as some of the most insightful meditations on the disease ever written. Brosh’s debut marks the launch of a major new American humorist who will surely make even the biggest scrooge or snob laugh. We dare you not to. FROM THE AUTHOR: This is a book I wrote. Because I wrote it, I had to figure out what to put on the back cover to explain what it is. I tried to write a long, third-person summary that would imply how great the book is and also sound vaguely authoritative—like maybe someone who isn’t me wrote it—but I soon discovered that I’m not sneaky enough to pull it off convincingly. So I decided to just make a list of things that are in the book: Pictures Words Stories about things that happened to me Stories about things that happened to other people because of me Eight billion dollars* Stories about dogs The secret to eternal happiness* *These are lies. Perhaps I have underestimated my sneakiness!

Many of the stories are true in nature, telling of the comical things said and done by kids and grandkids as they were growing up. There is also a mixture of fiction and some stories about the author's thoughts as he travels to and fro. Hunters and fishermen will enjoy the fiction. Moms will recognize such things as an occasional toad in the jeans pockets. Nature lovers will enjoy the lines about the wind, clouds, and trees. Most of these stories are written to ease the stress of daily life. If you take the time to read two stories a day for a month, see how they may start or end your day with a laugh, and at the end of the month, you may be less stressed out.
Download or read book What Happens in Tomorrow World written by Jordan Gross and published by BenBella Books. This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bestselling author and TEDx speaker Jordan Gross's What Happens in Tomorrow World? offers a poignant, relatable, and necessary parable for navigating uncertainty. What Happens in Tomorrow World? tells the story of Opti, Pessi, Chill, and Sage—four prizes found in a traditional arcade claw machine game, and what happens when one special player, Cayla "Catch" Alltoys, plays their game. As Catch maneuvers the claw over, down, and around them, the four prizes face their own crisis—the possibility of what will happen when they are removed from their safe environment and thrust into the unknown "real" world. Each prize reacts in one of the four typical responses most people have to facing uncertain situations. And it is through those reactions, and subsequent actions, that they—and we—learn how our own responses to uncertainty can either help or harm ourselves, those around us, and society as a whole. An urgently needed guide for managing the anxiety and ambiguity in our daily lives, this book will help readers thrive in challenging situations. Through this memorable story, you'll learn: • How to embrace uncertainty in all parts of life • Why no single response to uncertainty works for every situation • How various personality types typically respond differently to uncertainty • Why it's crucial to resist responding negatively to uncertainty • Why it's important to take action, no matter how uncertain you feel In the spirit of Spencer Johnson's Who Moved My Cheese? presents a modern, unique, and useful toolbox for confronting and managing the overwhelming amount of uncertainty we face every day.

Download or read book Grandpa s Stories written by Ronald (Ronn) L. Shank and published by Author House. This book was released on 2012-09-17 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of years ago now as one of my grandsons first birthday approached I thought about what to give a one year old. There are a million things that will be played with for a short while then either broken or ignored. I wanted to give something special, something lasting, something that even when older he might still enjoy. Then it struck me, since he likes the silly little stories I tell him upon his request, that maybe I could write some cute little short stories, with a moral as well, just for him (and any of my other grandchildren as well when shared). Thats all it took to get me started. Since then each year I write a little story that somehow relates to something in his life. When another grandchild came along he also was added to the list of recipients of original stories. When I got to thinking about it I decided there may be other grandparents that would like to spend time with their grandchild reading a little story. Now a few years down the pike and I have enough for a book. And so herein I offer my readers a chance to share the joy of time spent reading to a child. That is why my stories were written in the first place. Children go through phases as with my grandchildren there were the dinosaurs, whales, (especially the blue whale), hedge hogs, puppies and gold fish. Im sure you get my drift. All of these fed my imagination and help to produce stories that have a connection and personal touch for both the child and me. These stories are not written for children to read, but rather for a loving adult to sit down with child on their lap or side by side on a shared sofa and be read to. I recommend using funny voices and lots of emphasis and maybe a tickle or two at just the right moment to add flavor and a garnish to each story. The giggles, like sparklers on the 4th of July, will shower joy in all directions and warm the heart of the one reading the story and those close by. Do not be concerned about the content all the stories contained in this book are rated PG - (to be read by Parent or Grandparent). I hope you will enjoy these short stories even more that I did writing them.
Download or read book Not so Silent Muffie written by Jahnett Martin and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2014-10-13 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Muffin, Muffie for short, and I am a Maltese/Chihuahua mix who has been adopted by a human Mom. I live in a small community where I am relatively respected and nurtured. I decided to write a book that explains a little of how we, that is, four-legged individuals, relate in the human world. The majority of humans in this society really misunderstand us and it is about time that we speak up and be heard. I expect to see people paying more attention to animals once they have read my book, especially parents teaching their children about pets. The following points is how I see my book contributing to the enlightenment of the human owners of pets. The purpose of our lives in your lives. The intuitive power of pets. The wisdom of pets and their silent communication. The healing power of pets. How we pets bring joy and well-being to the world. Pets help energy to flow freely through giving love. I am of the firm belief that Humans need to be enlightened on how to relate to us in the animal kingdom.
Download or read book The Vampire Trilogy written by David Pinner and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2011-03-17 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Includes the plays Fanghorn, Edred, the Vampire and Lucifer's Fair Fanghorn is a darkly-surrealistic comedy, which pokes fun at the Theatre of Cruelty. Fanghorn is a lesbian vampire, who invades the household of Joseph King, who may, or may not, be the First Secretary to the Minister of Defence, and hilarious emasculation and murderous mayhem follow in her wake. Edred, the Vampyre is a thousand-year-old Anglo-Saxon bisexual vampire, who slept with Shakespeare, but never bit him. Breaking all Bram Stoker’s vampire laws, Edred loves garlic and crucifixes, so he lives in the village church where he is confronted by two students who Googled him. But soon the students wish they hadn’t. Lucifer’s Fair is the family Hallowe’en musical play, about a fair run by the Devil to entrap unwary children. Lucifer is aided by Fangs, who is a bovver boy by day, but an incompetent vampire by night. Simultaneously scary and funny, Lucifer’s Fair, with its comic spills, thrills and chills, highlights the unreliability of grownups, both the living and the undead.

Download or read book Survival Food written by Thomas Pecore Weso and published by Wisconsin Historical Society. This book was released on 2023-10-10 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intimate and engaging Native food memoir In these coming-of-age tales set on the Menominee Indian Reservation of the 1980s and 1990s, Thomas Pecore Weso explores the interrelated nature of meals and memories. As he puts it, “I cannot separate foods from the moments in my life when I first tasted them.” Weso’s stories recall the foods that influenced his youth in northern Wisconsin: subsistence meals from hunted, fished, and gathered sources; the culinary traditions of the German, Polish, and Swedish settler descendants in the area; and the commodity foods distributed by the government—like canned pork, dried beans, and powdered eggs—that made up the bulk of his family’s pantry. His mom called this “survival food.” These stories from the author’s teen and tween years—some serious, some laugh-out-loud funny—will take readers from Catholic schoolyards to Native foot trails to North Woods bowling alleys, while providing Weso’s perspective on the political currents of the era. The book also contains dozens of recipes, from turtle soup and gray squirrel stew to twice-baked cheesy potatoes. This follow-up to Weso’s Good Seeds: A Menominee Indian Food Memoir is a hybrid of modern foodways, Indigenous history, and creative nonfiction from a singular storyteller.
