Download or read book Grandfather s Wrinkles written by Kathryn England and published by Flashlight Press. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lucy and her grandfather are the focus of this poignant and warm story that teaches that wrinkles are badges of happiness rather than signs of age. Lucy asks Granddad, “Why doesn't your skin fit you? It’s all crinkly,” to which he replies, “Those crinkles are called wrinkles,” each of which he got when he smiled especially big. As Lucy traces Granddad’s joy-filled face, he describes his memories and shares the cause of each line—his wedding day, Lucy’s mother’s birth, precious moments from her childhood, and Lucy’s birth, among others. Beautiful drawings recreate each thoughtful memory, and the recollections showcase an intimate bond between the two generations.

Book Spot the Difference Puzzles for Language Learning Fun

Download or read book Spot the Difference Puzzles for Language Learning Fun written by David DeRocco and published by Full Blast Productions. This book was released on 1997 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spot the differences puzzles are the ones where you are given nearly identical drawings and you must spot the eight differences. This book consists of 50 spot the differences puzzles. But it is more than just a puzzle book. Each of the 50 drawings is on a subject that students must know about: things like giving directions, taking a driver's test, going to see a doctor, going to a job interview or asking a question in class. Each unit is a self-contained lesson on one of these subjects. To begin with each unit is four pages long. Students are first given a single, error free copy of the drawing, with which they identify objects in the drawing and brainstorm vocabulary. Next your students read a paragraph which tells the story of the drawing. Now your students come up with a title for the unit. Page two has the two copies of the drawing, with and without missing items, and space to write down what they are. Following this are a variety of vocabulary exercises and word puzzles. There is a close dictation and each unit provides a couple of personal interpretation questions, as well. There is a complete answer key.

Book excerpt: Nineteen writers dig into the imaginative spaces between conventional genres—realistic and fantastical, scholarly and poetic, personal and political—and bring up gems of new fiction: interstitial fiction. This is the literary mode of the new century, a reflection of the complex, ambiguous, and challenging world that we live in. These nineteen stories, by some of the most interesting and innovative writers working today, will change your mind about what stories can and should do as they explore the imaginative space between conventional genres. The editors garnered stories from new and established authors in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, and also fiction translated from Spanish, Hungarian, and French. The collection features stories from Christopher Barzak, Colin Greenland, Holly Phillips, Rachel Pollack, Vandana Singh, Anna Tambour, Catherynne Valente, Leslie What, and others. "A wildly varied cacophony of a book, by turns beautiful, funny, frightening, frustrating, and baffling, but never boring." —New Haven Review "Odd, Deep, Delightful" —Atlanta Journal-Constitution "This idea of playing with genre conventions is interstitiality's charm and what makes it a movement for the hypertext age. We want words to do more now and for our time not to have been spent with just one idea." —Adrienne Martini, Baltimore City Paper Delia Sherman was born in Tokyo and brought up in New York City. She earned a PhD in Renaissance studies at Brown University and taught at Boston and North-eastern universities. She is the author of the novels Through a Brazen Mirror, The Porcelain Dove (a Mythopoeic Award winner), and Changeling.
