Book Handbook on Student Development

Download or read book Handbook on Student Development written by Mark E. Ware and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because this book's main objective is to foster and promote student development, it should appeal to those who advise, counsel, and teach undergraduate and graduate students, particularly those in psychology, education, and other social sciences. Along with a plethora of stimulating ideas for practice and research, the book contains the results of research having immediate applications to students' educational and career direction needs. Readers will find more than 90 articles in this book distributed across three significant challenges to students' development: the academic, occupational, and personal. Further, the material presented has been organized around three distinct approaches to these challenges: advising, career development, and field placement activities. The source for these articles is the official journal, Teaching of Psychology, of Division Two of the American Psychological Association.

Book International Handbook of Behavior Modification and Therapy

Download or read book International Handbook of Behavior Modification and Therapy written by Alan S. Bellack and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1025 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid growth of behavior therapy over the past 20 years has been well doc umented. Yet the geometric expansion of the field has been so great that it deserves to be recounted. We all received our graduate training in the mid to late 1960s. Courses in behavior therapy were then a rarity. Behavioral training was based more on informal tutorials than on systematic programs of study. The behavioral literature was so circumscribed that it could be easily mastered in a few months of study. A mere half-dozen books (by Wolpe, Lazarus, Eysenck, Ullmann, and Krasner) more-or-Iess comprised the behavioral library in the mid- 1960s. Semirial works by Ayllon and Azrin, Bandura, Franks, and Kanfer in 1968 and 1969 made it only slightly more difficult to survey the field. Keeping abreast of new developments was not very difficult, as Behaviour Research and Therapy and the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis were the only regular outlets for behavioral articles until the end of the decade, when Behavior Therapy and Be havior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry first appeared. We are too young to be maudlin, but "Oh for the good old days!" One of us did a quick survey of his bookshelves and stopped counting books with behavior or behavioral in the titles when he reached 100. There were at least half again as many behavioral books without those words in the title.

Book Quantitative Evaluation of Standardized Predictors of Graduate School Performance at Western Washington University

Download or read book Quantitative Evaluation of Standardized Predictors of Graduate School Performance at Western Washington University written by David Emmick and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-11-04 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Validity coefficients of predictors of graduate school success at Western Washington University fall in the range of .2 to .4 typically found in similar studies. Data from 2,323 students for the period 1976 and 1980 were analyzed. The correlation with GGPA was .19 for GREA; .05 for GREQ; .10 for GREV; .14 for MAT; and, .34 for VGPA. Correlations for selected subpopulations show some increase in the correlation coefficients over the total group. Subgroup correlations are compared with median correlations from previous studies. The MAT and GREV have high correlations with each other and correlate similarly with other variables. The MAT and GREV would appear to be equivalent measures. In an attempt to enlarge on the meaning of success, two criterion variables, GGPA and TIME, were analyzed. A canonical correlation of .34 (redundancy =.055) was found between these criteria and the group of predictors: GREA, GREV, GREQ, MAT, UGPA.

Download or read book Decoding the Past written by Peter Loewenberg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Decoding the Past, Peter Loewenberg has collected eleven of his brilliant essays on psychohistory, a discipline that has emerged from the synthesis of traditional historical analysis and clinical psychoanalysis. He surveys this relatively new field its methods and its problems to show the special contributions that psychoanalysis can make to history. He then further explores the psychohistorical method by applying it to studies of personality, cultures, groups, and mass movements, demonstrating that psychohistory offers one of the most powerful of interpretive approaches to history. Decoding the Past is an impressive study that demonstrates the range of Loewenberg's own work in history and psychoanalysis and the full promise of an important and innovative methodology for others. His new essay takes up many of the criticisms and concerns raised about the method of psychohistory, and offers a cogent defense for its continued usage.
