Book Breaking the Spirit of Poverty with the Spirit of Generosity

Download or read book Breaking the Spirit of Poverty with the Spirit of Generosity written by Jan Grace and published by . This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to God's world of generosity. God is generous. The author of everything good shares his goodness, and his good things, with mankind. Incredible. Poverty, according to the dictionary, is the state of lacking sufficient money or material possessions. But according to biblical principles and examples, poverty is much more than just the lack of funds or possessions. It is a spirit, a force, that enslaves men and women. It becomes their mind set, the reason why they live the way they do. God's people may not have a lot of money. At times, they may be downright poor. But being poor and under the curse of the spirit of poverty are two completely separate things. NEVER does God want his people (or anyone, for that matter) living under the curse of poverty. The power to get wealth includes the wisdom to use it, and not abuse it. The poverty spirit will abuse it, waste it, and blame God for his stinginess. But the heart free from the spirit of poverty will allow God full access to everything they have; everything they are. The Spirit of Generosity overcomes the Spirit of Poverty. Every time. Generosity can be likened to massive power generators used to supply electricity to such large cities as New York and Los Angeles. Generosity is the power generator for the kingdom of God. God's generosity offers light to everyone in darkness; and peace to every tried and tormented soul. Joy comes to those who rest in God's generous assurance; for though the nighttime of weeping seems to last forever, joy always comes in the morning. Generosity - the life-giving power of doing good to others.

  • Author : Stephanie Land
  • Publisher : Hachette UK
  • Release : 2019-01-22

  • Pages : 266 pages

Download or read book Maid written by Stephanie Land and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2019-01-22 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A single mother's personal, unflinching look at America's class divide (Barack Obama)," this New York Times bestselling memoir is the inspiration for the Netflix limited series, hailed by Rolling Stone as "a great one." At 28, Stephanie Land's dreams of attending a university and becoming a writer quickly dissolved when a summer fling turned into an unplanned pregnancy. Before long, she found herself a single mother, scraping by as a housekeeper to make ends meet. Maid is an emotionally raw, masterful account of Stephanie's years spent in service to upper middle class America as a "nameless ghost" who quietly shared in her clients' triumphs, tragedies, and deepest secrets. Driven to carve out a better life for her family, she cleaned by day and took online classes by night, writing relentlessly as she worked toward earning a college degree. She wrote of the true stories that weren't being told: of living on food stamps and WIC coupons, of government programs that barely provided housing, of aloof government employees who shamed her for receiving what little assistance she did. Above all else, she wrote about pursuing the myth of the American Dream from the poverty line, all the while slashing through deep-rooted stigmas of the working poor. Maid is Stephanie's story, but it's not hers alone. It is an inspiring testament to the courage, determination, and ultimate strength of the human spirit. "A single mother's personal, unflinching look at America's class divide, a description of the tightrope many families walk just to get by, and a reminder of the dignity of all work." -PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, Obama's Summer Reading List

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Lisa Velthouse’s whole life, Christianity had been about getting things right. Obeying her parents. Not drinking. Not cursing. Not having premarital sex. Vowing to save her first kiss until she got engaged, even writing a book called . . . well, Saving My First Kiss. (This, it turns out, does not actually help a girl get a date.) Yet after two decades of trying to earn God’s okay, she found her faith was lonely, empty, and unsatisfying. So she turned to more discipline, of course: fasting! By giving up her favorite foods—sweets—Lisa hoped to somehow discover true sweetness and meaning in her relationship with God. Until, one night at a wedding, she denied herself the cake but failed in such a different, unexpected, and world-rocking way that it challenged everything she thought she knew about God and herself. Craving Grace is the true story of a faith dramatically changed: how in one woman’s life God used a bitter heart, a broken promise, and the sweetness of honey to reveal the stunning wonder that is grace.

Book Make Poverty Personal mersion Emergent Village resources for communities of faith

Download or read book Make Poverty Personal mersion Emergent Village resources for communities of faith written by Ash Barker and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2009-02-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poverty is one of the great challenges of the 21st century. But poverty is not new. And neither is God's deep concern for the poor--it is a theme deeply woven throughout the Bible. Yet sadly, churches and individual Christians have too often been blind to this emphasis, or they have been paralyzed into inaction by feelings of helplessness. In this urgent, provocative book, Ash Barker offers both challenge and hope. Pulling out and reflecting on significant passages from both testaments, he reveals what the Bible says about both the nature of poverty and about how God calls his people to respond. These studies, ideal for either individual or small group use, are interlaced with personal reflections--first-hand accounts from fifteen years of ministry among the poor.
