The report was prompted by the terrible destruction in southern FL caused by Hurricane Andrew (HA), the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history. This report recommends numerous steps to be taken at all levels of gov't. & by volunteer org. The Committee used the unfortunate experience of HA to identify weaknesses in preparedness & recovery efforts, but it offers recommendations from a statewide perspective. Current predictions that FL is at risk to be hit by more frequent & stronger hurricanes in the future adds urgency to the need to act quickly.
