Book Studies in the Management of Government Enterprise

Download or read book Studies in the Management of Government Enterprise written by R.J. Horn and published by Springer. This book was released on 1981-03-31 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The six studies in this volume represent investigations into aspects of the management of government enterprise. For the most part the concern is with those governmental units or agencies that provide products having nongovernmental counterparts. In each case the enterprise is taken as given, and there is no attempt to justify the participation of government in the production of goods. Instead, these studies attempt to define the positions and the functions of the decision makers, to evaluate product and pricing decisions and to specify appropriate mechanisms for providing the adequate and timely information required for efficient control. The first two studies examine the managerial role. James Suarez defines an enviornment in which the typical public or private sector classification does not apply. Given the monopsonistic position of the government in the armaments market, many managerial marketing decisions are not available to private firms. Thus the objectives of the participants in this market appear to be confounded. Suarez investigates this interdependent relationship. 8 STUDIES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF GOVERNMENT ENTERPRISE In "A First Approach to the Economic Theory of College Management," Barry Bressler addresses the problem of resource allocation within the college establishment. Bressler draws on utility theory to define the manager's objective function and on the imposed budget reductions suffered by units of the City University of New York to suggest some of the implications of this managerial construct. The third and fourth papers concentrate on the products of two government enterprises.

Download or read book From Bureaucracy to Business Enterprise written by Michael J. Whincop and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2003.This book analyzes the policy initiatives used in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States to improve the efficiency of government service delivery, such as commercialization, privatization, and, in particular, corporatization. The book looks at how markets, corporate governance processes, and judicial and administrative reviews affect the efficiency and ethics of service delivery. The book crosses a number of academic disciplines - corporate law and governance, law and economics, public choice theory, ethics and public law and administration. It will also be of value to a range of professional constituencies - to those involved in governance functions in government and privatized corporations, to professionals servicing these organizations, and to officials administering government services. These issues are also highly pertinent to emerging economies where governance of public services is crucial to the transition to market democracy.

Book Government In Business Leading Or Lagging

Download or read book Government In Business Leading Or Lagging written by Hwee Hua Lim and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-02-09 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evergreen debate over government's involvement in business continues in earnest. Participants straddle all stakeholder groups, from the state itself to the private sector to the public at large. Add to that debate increasing globalisation, and now de-globalisation, and the advent of technological advances. Criticism is often levelled at a government that is slow to act or one that belatedly introduces damning regulations. Many governments are already saddled with demands spanning mega infrastructural development to bulging fiscal deficits to evening out growth across the population. The politics of the day are however synonymous with short-termism. The Covid-19 pandemic has increased the bailout burden even more. The author attempts to provide a fair assessment of the potentially complementary roles that the public and private sectors can play in a fast-changing global economy, amidst the shifting expectations of society.Related Link(s)
