Book excerpt: The words of a gossip are like choice morsels... (Proverbs 18:8) We all know gossip is a sin, but gossip can also demonstrate that a church preaches the gospel. Every true church that belongs to Jesus will be gossiped about just as Jesus was labeled demonic and talked about. If we want the Holy Spirit to guide us to a church we should worship at, we must tune out the gossip in order to hear the voice of God. This book not only examines the sin of gossip and how it relates to the preaching of the gospel, but shows us how to refute it. From the Choice Morsel recipe, to an examination of bitter roots, this book exposes the sin of gossip and provides the reader with spiritual tools to survive tongues that drip deadly poison. A special dedication page allows you to fill in the name of someone you know who gossips. This will allow you to lovingly give it to them in hopes they will repent. For if we want to be perfect in Christ, we must tame the tongue. The words of a gossip are like choice morsels... (Proverbs 18:8)

Book excerpt: flu·en·cy / noun :the ability to speak a language easily and effectively Even if they want to, many Christians find it hard to talk to others about Jesus. Is it possible this difficulty is because we're trying to speak a language we haven't actually spent time practicing? To become fluent in a new language, you must immerse yourself in it until you actually start to think about life through it. Becoming fluent in the gospel happens the same way—after believing it, we have to intentionally rehearse it (to ourselves and to others) and immerse ourselves in its truths. Only then will we start to see how everything in our lives, from the mundane to the magnificent, is transformed by the hope of the gospel.

Book excerpt: "Read it for twists on twists, meditations on faith, and a deeply thoughtful treatment of an evangelical community." — Glamour, Beach Reads That Are Like Summer in a Book “A thoughtful and candid meditation on faith, family, and forgiveness . . . fabulous.” —Claire Lombardo, New York Times bestselling author of The Most Fun We Ever Had Recommended by Good Housekeeping, Elle, Parade, Real Simple, Glamour,Refinery29,Bustle, Oprah Daily, The Millions, Shondaland, Yahoo!, Literary Hub, and more! A mesmerizing debut novel set in northern Texas about two sisters who discover an unsettling secret about their father, the head pastor of an evangelical megachurch, that upends their lives and community—a story of family, identity, and the delicate line between faith and deception. Luke Nolan has led the Hope congregation for more than a decade, while his wife and daughters have patiently upheld what it means to live righteously. Made famous by a viral sermon on purity co-written with his eldest daughter, Abigail, Luke is the prototype of a modern preacher: tall, handsome, a spellbinding speaker. But his younger daughter Caroline has begun to notice the cracks in their comfortable life. She is certain that her perfect, pristine sister is about to marry the wrong man—and Caroline has slid into sin with a boy she’s known her entire life, wondering why God would care so much about her virginity anyway. When it comes to light, five weeks before Abigail’s wedding, that Luke has been lying to his family, the entire Nolan clan falls into a tailspin. Caroline seizes the opportunity to be alone with her sister. The two girls flee to the ranch they inherited from their maternal grandmother, far removed from the embarrassing drama of their parents and the prying eyes of the community. But with the date of Abigail’s wedding fast approaching, the sisters will have to make a hard decision about which familial bonds are worth protecting. An intimate coming-of-age story and a modern woman’s read, God Spare the Girls lays bare the rabid love of sisterhood and asks what we owe our communities, our families, and ourselves. “A deeply felt book about love — love for family and community, for people who sustain you and people who disappoint you. And love for God, too, which Kelsey McKinney writes about with humane and incisive frankness.”—Linda Holmes, New York Times bestselling author of Evvie Drake Starts Over “The accomplishment of this canny novel is in positing coming of age itself as a loss of faith—not only in the church, but in our parents, our family, and the world as we thought we understood it.” — Rumaan Alam, New York Times bestselling author of Leave the World Behind and Rich and Pretty

Book Spread the Gospel Not the Gossip

Download or read book Spread the Gospel Not the Gossip written by Robert A. Woods and published by . This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story is about how a rumor of an untrue adulterous affair got started and it got spread from one person's mouth to many others. The story will prompt you to think of some people you are familiar with either in your church, on the job, in your neighborhood, on social media, some of your friends--and yes, even some of your own family members. Also, this story will make you think about how you too could very well be one of the characters' mentioned in this story or have played the role as one of them at some point in your life. My agenda in this story was to merely identify every form of negative talk mentioned in the Bible, some outside of it, and then create a character for each one. Also, I identified and created various groups who are like-minded with common interests and beliefs. Carefully, follow along at what occurred after the rumor got started about this alleged adulterous affair and how others joined in on spreading it. As you read along, you will see how the spiritual leader of the church was led to deal with gossip and the spreading of this rumor toward those who played a role in listening to it and broadcasting it once he was made aware of it. It was not my intent to judge or direct this at anyone in particular for the characters in this story are not actual people I know. However, you and I can think of some people who might fit well as one or some of them. Now don't be in denial to think that the one you see in the mirror may very well be one of them. This story has its moments of laughter, but my ultimate goal is for people to take seriously the words that comes out of your mouth because you don't know where it may lead to.

Book Proverbs

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ray Ortlund
  • Publisher : Crossway
  • Release : 2012-03-31
  • ISBN : 1433531062
  • Pages : 226 pages

Download or read book Proverbs written by Ray Ortlund and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2012-03-31 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How exactly does one become wise? Pastor and teacher Ray Ortlund points out that the wisdom of God does not stand aloof, as if it were unattainable. Instead, he shows that wisdom graciously moves toward us, into our real world where we live and struggle day by day. Wisdom offers us her very best, if only we will listen. After all, "Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice," and, if wisdom troubles herself to yell, there must be a reason to listen and a means to hear. Ortlund unpacks the book of Proverbs in twenty-one straightforward sermons, providing a biblical worldview that opens up the higher meaning of money, sex, and power, as well as that of the daily routines of an average life. Drawing relevant parallels from ancient culture to present day, he helps the reader understand how the book of Proverbs is practical help for normal people going through everyday life. Most importantly, Ortlund shows how the Proverbs point to Jesus and his counsel for the perplexed, his strength for the defeated, his warning to the proud, his mercy for the broken. With careful treatment of the Scriptures and uncomplicated language, Proverbs: Wisdom that Works fills the vacuum between the layman's experience and the exegetical depth of many commentaries. Part of the Preaching the Word series.

Download or read book Jesus Outside the Lines written by Scott Sauls and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-03-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether the issue of the day on Twitter, Facebook, or cable news is our sexuality, political divides, or the perceived conflict between faith and science, today’s media pushes each one of us into a frustrating clash between two opposing sides. Polarizing, us-against-them discussions divide us and distract us from thinking clearly and communicating lovingly with others. Scott Sauls, like many of us, is weary of the bickering and is seeking a way of truth and beauty through the conflicts. Jesus Outside the Lines presents Jesus as this way. Scott shows us how the words and actions of Jesus reveal a response that does not perpetuate the destructive fray. Jesus offers us a way forward—away from harshness, caricatures, and stereotypes. In Jesus Outside the Lines, you will experience a fresh perspective of Jesus, who will not (and should not) fit into the sides.

Book Gossiping the Gospel

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Parfitt
  • Publisher : Athena PressPub Company
  • Release : 2007
  • ISBN : 9781844019687
  • Pages : 192 pages

Download or read book Gossiping the Gospel written by John Parfitt and published by Athena PressPub Company. This book was released on 2007 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does one 'gossip the gospel'? It isn't as odd as it sounds. A gossip (god-sib) was originally somebody related to one 'through God' - a godparent. So really, 'gossiping the gospel' is the act of trying to re-establish our connection with God through our relationship with the one we are all related to through Him: Jesus, his life and teachings. Beginning with Luke's warning to be on our guard for the coming of Our Lord, we are taken through the gospel readings for each Sunday of the Christian calendar year. As we approach the crucifixion of Christ, the underlying implications of His actions and words become alive with the problems and issues that face Christians today. Throughout these lucid and inspiring sermons are snippets of modern accounts of enlightenment, the struggles and triumphs on the path to eternal life - our own 'gossip' of the gospel. John Parfitt was educated at Bristol Cathedral School; St Paul's College, Cheltenham; Universities of Birmingham and Southampton; and Queen's College, Birmingham. He has been headmaster of two schools; Head of the School of Education, Birmingham; Rector of Hanley Castle; Director of Education for Bath and Wells; Inspector of Schools; and Master of Sexey's Hospital, Somerset.

Download or read book The Christian Gossip Show written by Nancy Ebersole and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-11-18 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian Gossip Show: Season 1 contains the Gospel according to a slightly bizarre woman named Nancy (non-sense) Ebersole. Certainly don’t blame its content on Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. These stories are similar but not exactly the same. Instead, this is a humorous collection of skits that offer lessons on various biblical principles. There are a variety of ways for readers to engage with the text. Each segment can be read as a short story. Another option would be to perform the skits with one or multiple actors, with the help of prop lists and instructions. These skits also serve as a launching pad for Bible study and discussion. Adults and youth alike will appreciate the entertaining and humorous ways these biblical topics are addressed. No matter where you stand with the Lord, Nancy prays God will use her silly stories, songs, and the scriptures in a way that blesses you and makes you laugh. Among all the “nonsense,” there are pearls of truth from God’s own heart that He wants to share with you.
