Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'An excellent starter for those who want to gain an insight into how AI works and why it's likely to shape our lives.' – The Daily Telegraph Artificial intelligence will shake up our lives as thoroughly as the arrival of the internet. This popular, up-to-date book charts AI’s rise from its Cold War origins to its explosive growth in the 2020s. Tech journalist Chris Stokel-Walker (TikTok Boom and YouTubers) goes into the laboratories of the Silicon Valley innovators making rapid advances in ‘large language models’ of machine learning. He meets the insiders at Google and OpenAI who built Gemini and ChatGPT and reveals the extraordinary plans they have for them. Along the way, he explores AI’s dark side by talking to workers who have lost their jobs to bots and engages with futurologists worried that a man-made super-intelligence could threaten humankind. He answers critical questions about the AI revolution, such as what humanity might be jeopardising and the professions that will win and lose – and whether the existential threat technologists Elon Musk and Sam Altman are warning about is realistic – or a smokescreen to divert attention away from their growing power. How AI Ate the World is a ‘start here’ guide for anyone who wants to know more about the world we have just entered. Book Patents and Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book Patents and Artificial Intelligence written by Michael J. Dochniak and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best hope for peace and prosperity in our world is the expansion of information, and, as such, Artificial Intelligence (AI) was created to process an infinite amount of information. As men and women continue to perfect AI, monitoring its evolution can be both enlightening and unnerving. This book showcases the immense utility of AI and its “superhuman” characteristics. Without a doubt, patents play an important role in the remarkable progression of AI, exposing pioneering innovations that stimulate future improvements. From 1987 to 2017, at least one hundred and fifty patents with the phrase “artificial intelligence” in the title were granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This important book provides an easy-to-read summary of such patents. Within many of the summaries, there are inventor profiles and news articles that are insightful and thought-provoking. Pioneering inventors hail from China, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Russia, and Taiwan. Prominent organizations include Amazon, Disney, Ford, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, and Sony. Throughout the book, diverse quotes present the emotional impact of Artificial Intelligence. In reverence to Alan Mathison Turing (1912-1954), widely considered the father of AI, this book explores fascinating aspects of computing machinery that can process information to the nth power in a blink.

Book Clinical Neurotechnology meets Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book Clinical Neurotechnology meets Artificial Intelligence written by Orsolya Friedrich and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-03 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neurotechnologies such as brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), which allow technical devices to be used with the power of thought or concentration alone, are no longer a futuristic dream or, depending on the viewpoint, a nightmare. Moreover, the combination of neurotechnologies and AI raises a host of pressing problems. Now that these technologies are about to leave the laboratory and enter the real world, these problems and implications can and should be scrutinized. This volume brings together scholars from a wide range of academic disciplines such as philosophy, law, the social sciences and neurosciences, and is unique in terms of both its focus and its methods. The latter vary considerably, and range from philosophical analysis and phenomenologically inspired descriptions to legal analysis and socio-empirical research. This diversified approach allows the book to explore the entire spectrum of philosophical, normative, legal and empirical dimensions of intelligent neurotechnologies. Philosophical and legal analyses of normative problems are complemented by a thorough empirical assessment of how BCIs and other forms of neurotechnology are being implemented, and what their measurable implications are. To take a closer look at specific neurotechnologies, a number of applications are addressed. Case studies, previously unidentified issues, and normative insights on these cases complement the rich portrait this volume provides. Clinicians, philosophers, lawyers, social scientists and engineers will greatly benefit from the collection of articles compiled in this book, which will likely become a standard reference work on the philosophy of intelligent neurotechnologies.
