Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Throughout the years, the emotional and geographical ground under the authors feet kept shifting, There were travels, adventures, job changes and financial disasters, love and fun, but also violence and pain. Throughout this story, the benchmarks of manic depression can be clearly identified as can the repercussions on relationships and family life. Two years in Guyana, South America, provided memories no one else could share and kept the couple close when circumstances tended to separate them. They camped and canoed in isolated regions of Algonquin Park, Ontario, explored the streets of London, England and beach-combed on Vancouver Islands west coast. In addition to the unhappy and perplexing aspects of marriage to a manic depressive, this book illustrates the positive side of life with a partner who does not fear consequences, who is adventurous and willing to risk.

Book excerpt: A meditation on the meaning of life in an increasingly global world, from acclaimed Chinese-Canadian author Xue Yiwei. Set in modern-day Montreal, Celia, Misoka, I is the story of a middle-aged Chinese man who has been living in the city for fifteen years. After the death of his wife, he begins to reflect on his past and how he has ended up alone in Canada, a solitary member of the Chinese diaspora. It is in this period of angst and uncertainty, during the most unusual of winters, that he meets two women by Beaver Lake, on Montreal’s Mount Royal. They, too, have their own stories: stories of their own personal plights, which connect present to past, and West to East. The distinct paths taken by these three characters — Celia, Misoka, and “I” — span continents and decades, but, whether by chance or design, converge in Montreal, like mysterious figures in an ancient Chinese Zen painting. After coming together, the three begin to examine who they are, where they might belong, and how to navigate otherness and identity in a globalized world. A RARE MACHINES BOOK

Book American Airpower Comes of Age

Download or read book American Airpower Comes of Age written by General Henry H. Arnold and published by The Minerva Group, Inc.. This book was released on 2004-10 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume has richly enhanced General Henry H. "Hap" Arnold's reputation as the father of today's United States Air Force. Major General John W. Huston, himself an Army Air Forces combat veteran of the war, has edited each of Arnold's World War II diaries and placed them in their historical context while explaining the problems Hap faced and evaluating the results of his travels. General Huston, a professional historian, has taught at both the US Air Force Academy and the US Naval Academy. A former Chief of the Office of Air Force History and an experienced researcher both here and abroad in the personal and official papers of the war's leaders, he has been careful to let Hap speak for himself. The result is an account of the four-year odyssey that took Arnold to every continent but one as he took part in deliberations that involved Allied leaders in major diplomacy/strategy meetings with Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S Truman, Winston Churchill, Josef Stalin, Charles de Gaulle, and Chiang Kai-shek. At those meetings, Hap recorded the comments of the various participants. His 12 diaries contain his own thoughts, which range from being lost over the Himalayas to comforting the wounded as they were airlifted from the Normandy beaches. He experienced an air raid in London and viewed the carnage in recently liberated Manila. Arnold recorded his honest impressions, from private meetings with King George VI in Buckingham Palace to eating from mess kits with his combat crews in the North African desert - all while perceptively commenting on the many issues involved and assessing the people, the culture, and the surroundings. This volume offers the best assessment we have of Hap as he survived four wartime heart attacks and continued to work tirelessly for proper recognition of airpower. It will also continue my emphasis while Chief of Staff of the US Air Force on encouraging professional reading through making historical accounts available to personnel of the finest air force in the world, a success achieved in large part because of Hap Arnold. Ronald R. Fogleman General, United States Air Force, Retired

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Call of the Yukon is comprised of two stories, both set in the late 1800’s in the wilderness of Canada’s far north. Rudy is the heart-warming story of a wolf cub abandoned by its mother, who is rescued from sure death when found by an Indigenous man named Steward. Initially rejected by Steward’s sled dogs, Rudy grows into a strong animal the team learns to fear, eventually becoming the alpha male. Rudy’s leadership is demonstrated during the annual Dawson City dogsled race, a high-spirited competition. This is a wilderness tale of a wolf who learns to place his trust in one man, until the call of the wild eventually beckons him to return to the forests of the Yukon, where he belongs. Quest for Gold and Fur is a fascinating tale about a young couple and their life together in the Yukon wilderness. Joe and Mary share their adventures in this heart-warming tale of survival in their adopted forest community. Read about how Rudy’s short life ended after he followed his heart and returned to the wild. Experience an encounter between a black bear and a wolverine, fighting over who is going to eat Joe and Mary’s pack animal. Follow the couple as they find riches hidden by old trappers in the most unlikely places. These two stories depict the courage and bravery of early fur-trappers in Canada’s north, which will not to be easily forgotten by its readers.
