Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The PBS fitness personality on Classical Stretch and creator of the fitness phenomenon Essentrics offers an eye-opening guide to anti-aging. Miranda Esmonde-White trains everyone from prima ballerinas to professional hockey players to Cerebral palsy patients: what do they all have in common? All of these people are hoping to heal their bodies, prevent further injury, and move optimally and without pain. In fact, they have the same goals as any of us who are trying to stay young, fit, and reverse the hands of time. Because the aging of our bodies occurs in our cells, it must be repaired there too—that’s where Miranda’s highly effective and sought-after techniques come in. The body is programmed to self-destruct as we age, but the speed at which it self-destructs is up to us. Recent scientific studies have proven this fact! In Aging Backwards, Miranda offers a groundbreaking guide on how to maintain and repair our cells, through scientifically designed workouts. Healthy cells prevent joint pain, muscle loss and weak bones—helping to control weight, increase energy, and improve strength and mobility. Miranda offers readers of all ages the tools they need to look and feel young. Complete with tips, tools, and her Eight Basic Age-Reversing Workouts accompanied by instructional photos and web clips, Aging Backwards will help you grow younger, not older! “If you’ve been meaning to start a fitness program but are put off by vigorous gym or yoga sessions, or if you’re hindered by joint or muscle pain, pick up this book.” —Zoomer

Book excerpt: A COMPREHENSIVE WAKE-UP CALL FOR PATIENTS AND PROFESSIONALS Antidepressed breaks down the growing issue of antidepressant use, harm and dependence—how we got to this point, what’s happening worldwide every single day, and most importantly, where we go from here. Providing information that both patients and mental health professionals desperately need, Antidepressed exposes the holes in mental health systems and highlights the desperate need for reform. Featuring compelling accounts from real people whose lives have been irrevocably harmed by prescription antidepressants, Antidepressed provides proof that there is no such thing as a magic pill—and that pretending otherwise risks the lives and well-being of those who need help the most.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On May 31, 1980, Laura Klehr Barnett, age 23, was planting flowers when she was suddenly seized by debilitating dizziness and later by convulsions. At the hospital, she slipped into a coma, the result of a severe brain stem stroke. Crying and blinking were her only activities for five weeks. One day she started laughing at something her husband did; from this, her improvement began. Over the next three months, she relearned to walk and eat again but could not speak. After four months in the hospital, Laura returned home. Recovering her speech was the challenge she faced at home. With a special retainer and effort, she was able to make herself understood. Many possibilities opened up to her, and she went about pursuing endeavors to fill a void in her life. Yet, despite her busyness, inside she felt empty. Driving past a small neighborhood church, she decided that attending would be good for her foster children. Ultimately, that decision was good for her! God filled the vacuum in her life!

Book excerpt: For many people, growing old is an unpleasant experience. It is a time of restriction, deprivation and of loss. You retire from work, lose your loved ones and have to cope with illness. It is an art to remain productive, to ensure that life remains meaningful, and to stay active and alive. This social psychological study shows how people of old age manage this within their various lifestyles, whether they live in senior citizens homes, in assisted-living projects, in their own apartments, alone or together with others.

Jack Hardigan, Australian university student and tennis player spends several summers at the University of London and trying to qualify for Wimbledon. He tells his story of this time when London had several ruthless underworld factions fighting for the rights to smuggling of anything to bootleg liquor, cheap cigarettes, illegal gambling, extortion, prostitution and exploitation of young women. Set against a vivid background of Wimbledon with its class distinctions and traditions and with the threats from the Irish bombings almost every week. Jack quickly makes new friends in all levels of London society. He takes us on his personal tour of London and the qualifying tournaments for Wimbledon. He meets sports entrepreneur and promoter Frank Brown at Frinton-on-Sea who leads him through a labyrinth of various characters from a lonely rich diamond heiress to several crime bosses. Sicilian nightclub owner Dom Gloriosos becomes a supporter and friend, taking he and Frank out on his luxury yacht on weekend cruises. He meets the beautiful sexy Mirium during a weekend at her country estate. She watches him playing a tennis exhibition that weekend and finds she is in love with him. The story, as told by Jack in his own words comes to a disastrous sudden climax with a murder at Wimbledon. Jack tells his story of that warm summer in London with great authenticity and empathy.
