Book Good Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems Practice

Download or read book Good Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems Practice written by Trevor Pringle and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guide provides easy-to-read generic information which describes the design and installation practices necessary to minimise the risk of problems, particularly in relation to their ability to keep water out. Because EIFS is a face-sealed system, the correct application of products and procedures needs to be followed and particular care is required with the detailing of junctions and openings in the cladding system. Guide outlines the key rules to successful EIFS use for weathertight and durable performance.

Book Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems

Download or read book Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems written by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exterior insulation & finish systems (EIFS) are products for cladding exterior walls that integrate insulation with a stucco-like covering. EIFS incorporate insulation board, a base coat with reinforcement, surface finish adhered to the base coat, and other parts such as joint treatments, drainage accessories, and seals. The purpose of this guide is to provide an understanding of EIFS, provide recommendations for EIFS best practices to promote satisfactory performance & durability, and to develop a framework for functional construction details & specifications that generally illustrates best design & construction practice. The introduction reviews the advantages & limitations of EIFS, problems experienced with EIFS deterioration, and aspects of cladding design. Chapter 2 describes selection of an EIFS system based on fire safety characteristics, rainwater penetration resistance, and impact resistance. Chapter 3 covers cladding design issues including substrate, air & vapour control, movement joints & crack control, interfaces, joint seals, and other durability considerations. Chapter 4 outlines factors to be addressed when using EIFS in retrofitting existing buildings. The last chapter contains construction details that exemplify best practices in EIFS applications. Appendices include a glossary and background technical information.

Book Designing the Exterior Wall

Download or read book Designing the Exterior Wall written by Linda Brock and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By presenting the basics of building science along with a prescribed set of details, Designing the Exterior Wall helps you understand why buildings fail and how they can be made more durable through design. Author Linda Brock connects the science and aesthetics of building envelopes through the examination of a variety of construction and cladding types. She features details from real world projects in a variety of climates, successful and unsuccessful case studies, and checklists you can use on your own projects. Helps you reduce your liability by showing why building envelopes fail and how they can be designed to endure. Moves from theory to actual construction by including hundreds of building envelope details from a broad array of projects and climates. Integrates numerous contemporary case studies, including Frank Gehry's Experiential Music Center in Seattle (thin skins), Renzo Piano's Rue de Meaux housing in Paris (terra cotta cladding), and Mario Botta's San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (prefabricated brick panels). Designing the Exterior Wall is a must-have book, whether you're an architect or a student. Order your copy today.

Book Design of Engineered Drainable Exterior Insulation and Finish System EIFS Cladding

Download or read book Design of Engineered Drainable Exterior Insulation and Finish System EIFS Cladding written by Stephen S. Ruggiero and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last ten years, the authors have investigated a number of buildings with leakage and deterioration problems associated with exterior walls clad with exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS). These systems were "barrier" walls applied to materials that degrade rapidly from exposure to moisture, such as gypsum board sheathing. These wall systems lacked backup waterproofing and flashing elements and relied on surface seals as the sole means of controlling water penetration (leakage). While these systems are appealing due to their aesthetic features, light weight and insulating characteristics, they are vulnerable to performance problems as a result of failed surface seals, leakage through window frame corners and poor installation practices. Installation of internal flashings is difficult at best because the primary waterproofing layer (the lamina) is on the face of the cladding rather than in the plane of the flashing. In this paper, the authors review the essential differences between barrier and drainable EIFS. The primary focus of the paper is to examine the various components of an engineered drainable EIFS including waterproofing membranes, drainage plane grids, methods of attachment, and consideration for use of a vapor retarder (position) within the wall cross section. Detailing of wall penetrations, particularly for windows and doors will be presented as will location of flashings and weep mechanisms in multi story construction. Design considerations will be illustrated in two case studies where barrier EIFS was replaced with an engineered drainable system, one in a relatively warm climate (southern California) and the other in a relatively cold climate (Massachusetts).

Book Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems EIFS Use in Wood Framed Residential Construction

Download or read book Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems EIFS Use in Wood Framed Residential Construction written by MB. Bronski and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During our field observations and water tests of wood-framed houses in North Carolina that are clad with EIFS, we noted common features in their exterior wall construction that caused significant deterioration to the sheathing and stud wall framing. For several reasons, these problems would be less severe or absent if the houses were clad with traditional residential wall systems (i.e., wood shingles or clapboards, brick veneer, or traditional stucco).
