Book excerpt: Ernestine has never been camping before, but she’s sure it will be lots of fun . . . won’t it? An endearing story about a girl’s first experience with the great outdoors. My aunt Jackie invited me to go camping with her and my cousin Samantha this weekend. I’ve never been camping before, but I know I will love it. Ernestine is beyond excited to go camping. She follows the packing list carefully (new sleeping bag! new flashlight! special trail mix made with Dad!) so she knows she is ready when the weekend arrives. But she quickly realizes that nothing could have prepared her for how hard it is to set up a tent, never mind fall asleep in it, or that swimming in a lake means that there will be fish — eep! Will Ernestine be able to enjoy the wilderness, or will it prove to be a bit too far out of her comfort zone? In an energetic illustrated story about a first sleepover under the stars, acclaimed author-illustrator Jennifer K. Mann reminds us that opening your mind to new experiences, no matter how challenging, can lead to great memories (and a newfound taste for s’mores).

Download or read book Let S Go Camping written by Marty Suydam and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of memories by a group of old Scout friends. In the centennial year (2017) of celebration of the founding of Camp Glen Gray, we cant recount periods other than when we were Scouts at Glen Gray, but our story might be considered fun reading by other generations. All of those involved in this writing project left the camp by the mid-1960s and have only returned for anniversariesor never. Regardless, the creation of our story brought old friends back together as though no time had passed. The sharing of events and anecdotes by email and critique of stories, as they unfolded, helped sharpen our memories. More often, we were surprised, as we found out about things we didnt know in the first place. While it might go without saying, it ought to be said, we, as Scouts, boys-to-teenagers-to-adults, experienced something unique that was the Scouting experience associated with Camp Glen Gray. To us, Camp Glen Gray is a special place in all the world. While its memories can be preserved in writing, pictures, and our own memories, it is a place that ought to be preserved so that others can look at Lake Vreeland from the bridge and have dreamsforever. In 2017, the bridge over the dam spillway was been removed. It is hoped that any proceeds from the sale of this book would go to restoring the 1950s cover picture view in our memories and in reality

It's an opportunity for many to get out and enjoy nature and experience wildlife up close. Some may consider camping to be almost too popular based on the increasing difficulty in booking spots on campsites, especially in the summer as sites tend to become even more crowded. But camping has also become a major family pastime and, as some would say, is a really good and considerably cheaper alternative to booking a holiday. A few miles out into the natural wilderness void of cars and buildings can mean a whole different part of the world altogether! There are a variety of activities which campers can enjoy including fishing, swimming, hiking, hunting and even taking videos or photos of wildlife. But every camping trip has one purpose which is enjoyment. Regardless of the season or whether it's an individual expedition or a fun family outing, safety naturally is the most important thing prior to stepping out into the wilderness. It is crucial to not only be well-organized but also well-prepared before travelling outdoors. Being prepared makes all the difference between an enjoyable campout and a world of disarray and misery. The following tips will certainly help you be prepared, be responsible and most importantly...be safe.

Download or read book The Developmentally Challenged Go Camping written by Don Nordstrom and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-09-30 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Based on actual events) Dave was a corporate exec on the brink of a nervous breakdown from his job. So, when his friend Rachel asked him to go with her on a camping adventure into the wilderness of the Badlands, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Parks, he agreed to go with her. The only catch was, she would be bringing seven developmentally challenged adults with her. She said she only needed him to back the trailer in for her at the campsites, and to help teach camping skills. But he knew deep down that there was more to this than a simple camping trip. He had little experience in dealing with those with special needs and wasnt sure what he would do if one of them wanted to run off to pet a pretty grizzly bear. However, he knew from past hiking and camping experiences that nature could restore him back to some sort of sanity and this is what eventually convinced him to go with them. Join Dave on his excursion and discover how nature and seven developmentally challenged vacationers transformed his life. You will laugh and perhaps cry, but you will never forget this story and the characters involved. Don Nordstrom is also the author of the very popular book, "The Binary Effects of God."
