Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A drunken plan to make some quick money with two friends landed drifter Whit Ralston in the Yuma Territorial Prison—the worst prison in Arizona. Now he’s doing hard time in the inferno the inmates call the Hell Hole, counting the days until his release. He’s vowed never to do anything so stupid again... but then his crazy cellmate, Ratero, starts talking about a load of stolen gold stashed up in the mountains. At first, Whit dismisses it as fantasy, the feverish rantings of a man who'd spent too many years in stir. Then he's furloughed to help with a construction project outside the prison. The taste of freedom is intoxicating, but everyone he meets wants to know just one thing—where's Cordova's gold? Could Ratero's rantings possibly be based in truth? Could the gold really exist? When he falls for a beautiful, blue-eyed lady of the evening who seems as taken with him as he with her, Whit realizes he might have a new reason to run some risks. Once he gets out of prison, Whit starts making plans—but he’s going to have to make better choices about just who to believe in order to hit pay dirt. People say a lot of things, but when it’s money on the line, your best friend today could be holding you at gunpoint tomorrow. In the Old West, though, following the law is never as important as trusting the right people.

Book excerpt: In Maroon & Gold: A History of Sun Devil Athletics, veteran sportswriter Bob Eger recounts not only the most celebrated moments but many little-known items from the university's colorful sports history. From turn-of-the-century football legend Charlie Haigler to the electrifying Whizzer White to latterday star Jake Plummer, the rich football lineage is well documented. But this is much more than a football book. Who could forget coach Ned Wulk's great basketball teams of the early 1960s or the five national basketball titles? It's a little-known fact that women were participating in an early form of aerobics on campus as early as 1891 and playing basketball in 1898, though the school didn't begin attracting national attention for women's athletics until golfer JoAnne Gunderson and diver Patsy Willard began to dominate their sports in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Maroon & Gold: A History of Sun Devil Athletics is must reading for any true Sun Devil fan from any generation.

Eva holds the key to a deadly secret: Project Bluebird -- a horrific experiment of the concentration camps, capable of tipping the balance of world power. Both the Americans and the Soviets want Bluebird, and it is something that neither should ever be allowed to possess. But Eva hasn't come to America for secrets or power. She hasn't even come for a new life. She has come to America for one thing: justice. And the Nazi that has escaped its net. Critically acclaimed author of The Light in Hidden Places Sharon Cameron weaves a taut and affecting thriller ripe with intrigue and romance in this alternately chilling and poignant portrait of the personal betrayals, terrifying injustices, and deadly secrets that seethe beneath the surface in the aftermath of World War II.
