Download or read book God in the Dark written by Sarah Van Diest and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2018-04-03 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life’s painful trials can bring shame about our inadequate and broken faith. There is relief in hearing the expressions of desperation in the psalmist’s voice. He didn’t experience this life perfected, and we don’t either. But the psalmist was loved. So are we. God was so kind to give us the Psalms. To walk through darkened days is part of the human experience. To walk through them with faith, comfort, strength, joy, and hope is part of the divine experience. Our eyes, though, are often clouded to those blessings by the thing oppressing us. When we remember and recognize our Father’s faithfulness, when we see reality with the eyes of understanding, the darkness ebbs and the light of hope grows. The impossible, unbearable, and unthinkable becomes the hidden passageway to truth, hope, and joy in Christ. These letters were originally written as encouragement to a friend when the darkness began to overtake his path. Each day for 22 days, a letter arrived with one of the eight-verse sections from Psalm 119 along with a small thought to bring light and hope and to be a reminder that we do not fight our battles alone. The letters, along with nine more devotions on the subject of experiencing God in the dark, make up this powerful, honest, hope-filled 31-day devotional.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They left in the middle of the night—often carrying little more than the knowledge to follow the North Star. Between 1830 and the end of the Civil War in 1865, an estimated one hundred thousand slaves became passengers on the Underground Railroad, a journey of untold hardship, in search of freedom. In Through Darkness to Light: Photographs Along the Underground Railroad, Jeanine Michna-Bales presents a remarkable series of images following a route from the cotton plantations of central Louisiana, through the cypress swamps of Mississippi and the plains of Indiana, north to the Canadian border— a path of nearly fourteen hundred miles. The culmination of a ten-year research quest, Through Darkness to Light imagines a journey along the Underground Railroad as it might have appeared to any freedom seeker. Framing the powerful visual narrative is an introduction by Michna-Bales; a foreword by noted politician, pastor, and civil rights activist Andrew J. Young; and essays by Fergus M. Bordewich, Robert F. Darden, and Eric R. Jackson.

Download or read book From Darkness Into the Light written by Marino Restrepo and published by Ebookit.com. This book was released on 2020-05-14 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work that you are holding in your hands now is the result of a human life full of drama, mysticism and experiences that may seem certainly contradictory for those who are far away from God. In these pages you will find a human life intertwined in the most serious errors and dangers resulting from an existence that lacked spiritual awareness and was flooded with the mundane ambitions of a heart that always wanted to do good and was able do so only after great effort. You will also find the fruit of the author's encounter with his Creator; in it, God's mercy and forgiveness rescued a wasted life from the ashes of sin and transformed it into bread of evangelization for the whole world. You will also be able to appreciate the Gospel telling us as how God takes the fool to embarrass the sage. Marino Restrepo never studied theology, neither was he educated in the religious sciences. However, during his life as a missionary, he has made possible for theology academicians and high-level ecclesiastic scholars to hear the simplicity of a Gospel infused in the author's heart by the Holy Spirit. You are kindly invited to navigate through the paths of God's miracle.

Download or read book Making Darkness Light written by Joe Moshenska and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2021-09-30 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Making Darkness Light is an illumination' Adam Phillips 'His sympathetic yet challenging account will undoubtedly win Milton new readers - and for that a chorus of Hallelujahs' Spectator For most of us John Milton has been consigned to the dusty pantheon of English literature, a grim puritan, sightlessly dictating his great work to an amanuensis, removed from the real world in his contemplation of higher things. But dig a little deeper and you find an extraordinary and complicated human being. Revolutionary and apologist for regicide, writer of propaganda for Cromwell's regime, defender of the English people and passionate European, scholar and lover of music and the arts - Milton was all of these things and more. Making Darkness Light shows how these complexities and contradictions played out in Milton's fascination with oppositions - Heaven and Hell, light and dark, self and other - most famously in his epic poem Paradise Lost. It explores the way such brutal contrasts define us and obscure who we really are, as the author grapples with his own sense of identity and complex relationship with Milton. Retracing Milton's footsteps through seventeenth century London, Tuscany and the Marches, he vividly brings Milton's world to life and takes a fresh look at his key works and ideas around the nature of creativity, time and freedom of expression. He also illustrates the profound influence of Milton's work on writers from William Blake to Virginia Woolf, James Joyce to Jorge Luis Borges. This is a book about Milton, that also speaks to why we read and what happens when we choose over time to let another's life and words enter our own. It will change the way you think about Milton forever.

Book excerpt: Thank God for Jesus I am in His glorious light, I now know, no matter what he will not leave nor forsake me. This book chosen by my father in heaven for me to write before I was born has shown me that God knows what I would go through and what we would go through as a family. Because of His mercy and love he never let me know or we could not bear it. God started this work in our family, I do believe he will finish it. Even though it may not seem like it right now the battle is already won, when we go through the test, the testimony is for the glory of God. I write what I live and live what I write. I am astonished by Gods power, as God strengthen me I am humbled by His grace and mercy. Amen. I was born in Jamaica and have Scottish and English heritage which I embrace. I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I have lived in England for most of my life. In my youth, I wondered what was the true purpose for my life? I had repeated dreams and visions that were so profound, about my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, running with a host of people to meet him on the mountainside. I have lived a Christian life believing there is a God for many years. I have been born again about 20 years the greatest thing that ever happened in my life. I believe God has blessed me in so many different ways, I thank God for my husband and family. I thank God for wisdom, I believe he has given me, understanding and discernment. I await the final chapter the Lord said it will be a good one.
